The Daily Catch North End Boston Reviews from The Last Year

The one in North end is the one we heard is the best which you also cant make reservation so be ready to stand outside for a while. The service and ambiance is fine... but the food, we really expected more. Especially based on previous reviews First of all we were a bunch of people but they only brought one very small basket of bread, which was dry and cold and NO BUTTER OR OIL or anything on the side. They didnt even cut the bread completely so we had to tear it apart. The food portion was the next thing that people mentioned they are generous but THEY WERE NOT! We got the fried calamari for 21$ and people have said it would be good for 3 people but imo only for 1! Then we got the swordfish... no spices or flavor.. although it was cooked good and was soft. Unfortunately the soup(?) it was marinated in was so buttery... Overall I wouldn't bother going back.

The Daily Catch has been our goto place for seafood for at least 30 years. The North End version remains small, unpretentious, and and still requires CASH. The line outside can get long, but if you arrive near opening time at 5 during the week, there's rarely more than a 10 minute wait. You sometimes get to share a table with others and you can watch the 3 person staff, including the chef, work their magic from anywhere in the restaurant. The menu is dominated by pasta and shellfish which is always fresh and they specialize in squid. Pasta dishes include the choice of Aglio Olio, Alfredo, or Puttanesca sauces. My wife loves the Black Pasta Aglio Olio and the fried calamari as an appetizer. I usually get the linguine with clams in a very light "white" wine sauce but have sometimes splurged on Lobster Diavolo which features lobster, squid, clams, mussels, shrimp, and calamari in a mildly spicy tomato sauce over linguine. Service is polite and attentive. Drinks are served in plastic cups. Most entrees are served in the skillet they are cooked in and portions are generous. The Daily Catch now has locations at the Waterfront and in Brookline, but the North End remains our favorite.
I want to come back here again instantly.
I am a pasta LOVER, so you know I was on the hunt for some delicious pasta, especially among all the options in the area. I studied the menu and knew exactly what I wanted to order. PREFACE: Go get cash. There are banks and ATMs across and down the street. A lot of establishments in this area are cash only anyways, so just get more than enough so you can order to your pasta-heart's desire and get dessert afterwards across the street. Let's get into it. THE FOOD: I love creamy pasta, preferably white sauce of some kind. All reviews pointed to ordering the black pasta. We ordered the (1) Black Pasta with Alfredo Sauce and the (2) Clams and Linguine in White Sauce. - Black Pasta with Alfredo: 10/10 creamy and up to my creamy standards. After adding some parmesan, it was exactly what an alfredo dish should taste like. The black pasta has a different texture (softer) than what you may be used to but GOOD. You can feel that it is homemade. - Clams and Linguine in White Sauce: I'm a fan of this equivalent dish at Maggiano's. This one here was SO SO GOOD. I'm typically a creamy pasta girl, but I think I genuinely enjoyed this pasta dish MORE than the alfredo pasta. I felt that it was more flavorful, and they certainly did not skimp on the clams. You must get this if you love garlic, seafood, pasta, and flavor. THE WAIT: We arrived at 6:30, and there was a party of 3 in line ahead of us. It's a small small restaurant as all the other reviews have indicated (~20 seats is pretty accurate). We waited outside for about 30 min and the server came out to seat us. We were sitting at the window, and I think we got lucky with the wait because the line got a bit longer and we watched the line move quite smoothly. You're essentially waiting for people to finish eating before you can get a seat. Depending on your luck and who's dining in, you may have a short or long wait. The food came out pretty quickly, and by the time we got our food, we (part of 2) were done in about 30 min. Other larger parties (of 3-4) were there before us and still there when we left. Might recommend coming for an earlier dinner so you can beat the crowd! AMBIANCE: It feels special to dine in the original location. I didn't target this location over the waterfront on; I just wanted to visit North End. It was a cozy spot and definitely what other reviews indicate as "no frills," "no BS" Italian spot, which I honestly think we need more of! They are also known to serve their pastas in the pans they're cooked in. I personally think this is cool and smart - a win win. Less dishes to wash for them, and no flavor lost as you get ALL of the goodies (sauce, garlic, etc.) the dish was cooked in. The one chef, one dishwasher, and one server were very nice. Be nice and patient with them! They do be busy. They did not hesitate to snap a picture with a customer who wanted one; they even let him hold a live lobster - very sweet haha.
Upsetting
My husband and I arrived at Daily Catch and were about to be seated when they asked if they could seat a party of three (who arrived after us) at that table instead. They suggested we sit at a tiny, cramped table up against the wall on one side and another table on the other, but I informed them that I was pregnant and that it would be difficult for me to squeeze in there. They then said they felt bad because the party of three was standing outside and it was starting to rain. We said that we would just leave instead and nothing was said to try to stop us. To a degree, I understand wanting to take a larger party (by one person), but to allow us to leave in the rain, especially when we were the first to arrive was very upsetting.
This is a cash only restaurant.
There's only around 20 seats but we were able to walk in on a Sunday around lunchtime. They'll serve you bread as soon as you sit down. The house salad is super fresh and the veggies are crispy. Greater starter if you're wanting some greens. The black pasta and linguines are also good choices to order. They are served in the same pan used to cook the dish! The seafood platter was decent but not worth the price in my opinion. I'll probably just stick to the noodle/pasta dishes going forward.
I've been to both places in North End and by the Wharf.
The one in North End is smaller, less tables; therefore, longer wait. It's cash only. The one by the Wharf is larger, more tables; therefore, shorter wait, and it takes credit card. However, for some reasons, I find the clams and linguine dish tastes better in the original one in North End. That dish has given me the inspiration to cook clams and linguine at home. Every time I go back to Boston, I always make plan to have dinner at Daily Catch for Italian Seafood dishes.
Great fresh seafood, wonderful drinks, a Boston staple!
Great fresh seafood, wonderful drinks, a Boston staple! Clams and calamari are my go to. Negronis are amazing!
We went there on a Friday night.
It gets busy and you have to wait in line outside so come early and with enough layer to not get cold. One chef, one server, one buser/dishwasher and you in the middle of it all surrounded with other people sharing this experience with you. It's intimate, cozy and in constant movement. We shared the Calamari Platter as an appetizer and then the Lobster Fra Diavolo. The Calamari Platter was amazing, we loved trying a little bit of everything. Their fried calamari is phenomenal, their calamari salade was really good and refreshing. We loved the texture of the calamari meatballs and the stuffed calamari was tasty as well. Then we shared the Lobster Fra Diavolo for two, it's a beautiful presentation! The noodles are great texture and perfectly cooked. It was a little spicier than I thought it would be but not in a bad way. The seafood was great, their clams were tasty! We both enjoyed our night and had a great experience at the daily catch!
Honestly was underwhelming.
Ordered the squid ink pasta and there was barely any protein. Just noodles and some garlic? I would not return for the squid ink pasta, but maybe try something else. But then again, all the Italian food in north end is all pretty comparable.

I am so glad we went here for dinner, it was one of my favorite stops in Boston! We went on a Tuesday around 630 and there was a small line with 3 parties ahead of us. You have to wait outside. It was a cold day and we were debating on leaving when we saw there was only seating for about 14 people inside... we had no idea how long the lin3 would take. Luckily it didn't take too long, maybe 20 mins or so. We were seated, served with water and bread and the server took our order. As other reviews have stated, this is a "no frills" restaurant. Your drinks are served in plastic cups. There's 3 employees, a server, a chef, and a dishwasher. You can see the whole operation behind the scenes with the open kitchen, which I thought was cool. Your food is served in the skillet it was cooked in. I think all of this made the restaurant unique! The food was really good! I got the black pasta with Alfredo and it was to die for, the best pasta that I've had in a long time! My husband got the frutti di mare, and although he enjoyed it, he did wish that he didn't choose the white sauce (olive oil and clam juice). Overall, we had a good, unique experience here and would definitely come back if we are in Boston again!
**THIS PLACE IS CASH ONLY** Well worth the hype/wait! I
**THIS PLACE IS CASH ONLY** Well worth the hype/wait! I fortunately beat the rush of people waiting patiently outside. One thing to note before I start my review is before you order, make you sure you order EVERYTHING you want in ONE sitting. they only do one ticket for parties and don't do multiple orders because of their waits. Fried calamari (9/10): honestly, not my favorite breading in the world, but they do not skimp on the amount of calamari in that basket. With a squeeze of lemon and their homemade marinara sauce on the side, this is a wonderful appetizer to start. Enough to split between 3 people! Swordfish (10/10): oh my god??? The texture of this fish is wonderful. My first time having it, when my friend cut into it, I was like, "oh my gosh it cuts like chicken!" It is a very meaty, mildly sweet white fish that paired so well with the sundried tomatoes basil sauce and mushrooms. So hearty. You must order this when you go, these swordfish steaks were amazing. Scallop linguine with white sauce (10/10): I'm not even an enjoyer of pasta, but this, this was divine. Served in a pan right off the stove, the scallops were plush, bathed in the amazing balance of garlic, dry wine, cilantro, and oil. My only regret is not ordering a second pan. This place is small, unsuspecting even, but do not be fooled by the size. Folks will be crowding outside to get a spot at a table. It is cozy in its small nature as well as its seating; sat at a large table with my friends and strangers, and it made a lovely dinner. Open kitchen where you can watch the chefs prepare your meals, basically marinating in the aroma of high quality pastas and seafood. I would love to come here again to try their monkfish dish.
Tiny place, excellent shellfish!
Nestled in among all the great Italian restaurants and bakeries in the north end is this tiny, and I mean tiny tiny tiny restaurant that serves amazing seafood. The fried calamari and the shrimp scampi are our favorites, but we liked everything we had. This place is small, like 25 seats small, and you can see into the kitchen, and you have to walk through the dishwashing station to get to the bathroom. We really liked how different this restaurant was and how much of a small hole in the wall it was. The food is well priced for what you get. If you want more frills, and the ability to make reservations, go to their waterfront location just a short walk away. If you want a real old school authentic experience, come to this location.
Cash only? No, thank you.
Sit down restaurant with dishes that are so pricey and it’s cash only? I’m shocked they are still in business. We were amongst many who left after being told Cash only. Pass!
Delicious, real, fresh food and great service
Delicious, homemade food and excellent service. Calamari was so tasty and gelato (pistachio and caramel) was delicious for dessert. Will 100% come again.
Black pasta, what can I say
What can I say - black pasta - the best. Service great, outside seating - not much view but if the weather is nice, worth it. Wait staff really focused on service.
Not worth the wait or the price
We waited over 2 hours to be seated. I ordered the black ink pasta which tasted burnt. The calamari which they’re “known for” was cooked in an oil that was not fresh and had a terrible aftertaste. They did remake my pasta and were nice about it. The food just didn’t live up to the hype.
Not worth the wait
We came during the week and waited at least 45 min. Many persons were done eating but the service was slow to pick up the checks. Food is ok but not worth the price and the wait. The only homemade pasta is the black pasta. We were also charged at the end a "custom cook" fee for a sauce. Would have been great to know they charged a supplement when we ordered the food, not when we receive the bill.
Excellent service.
Nice patio setting. Good location. Professional, congenial, and attentive servers. Good food. Would go again.
Long waiting time
Good food especially the Lobster linguine but need to wait far too long for having the food (80 minutes for main dishes).

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!

LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
