Tavern On the Green New York Reviews from The Last Year
Better than I imagined
I always wanted to visit this iconic restaurant and was finally able to for Saturday brunch. We had a beautiful day to enjoy brunch outside on the scenic patio, but inside looked so pretty too. People were dressed more casually than I had anticipated but I am assuming perhaps because it was early on a Saturday (10:30am ) and people are coming after a jog or a bike ride in the park. Our service was perfect, multiple people checked in on us making sure everything was ok. We had salmon Benedict and breakfast pizza and confetti cake to celebrate my daughters birthday. Food ,service and ambiance exceeded my expectations. I was happy to see those enjoying the outside bar a place I would like to visit next time before my meal.
Chill place for an apéritif 🍹🍻🥂
Located next to Central Park's Sheep Meadow you'll find this "back in time" tavern. Very picturesque ambience. The outside seating area is a great spot to have a pause and relax when you are in the beautiful Central Park!
Lovely Sunday Brunch
This was a great way to start our Sunday, at an iconic NYC restaurant in Central Park. The restaurant is very cozy, elegant, the service was attentive and the food very good. It was too chilly to eat outdoors, although I imagine in the right weather this would be a lovely place to dine outside. I would have loved to sit in the solarium area, but the restaurant was very full at 11am - we were seated along the banquette within view of the kitchen and the seating is fairly close to neighbouring tables, and we found ourselves speaking loudly to each other to be heard, although that was resolved when the table next to us got up. We started with a glass of prosecco, my friend had the tuna slider special and I had the steak and eggs, which was delicious. There is a little gift shop attached for souvenirs or cute little items, and one is given a Tavern on the Green postcard at the end of the meal. Overall, a very nice experience. I look forward to returning when the weather is warmer and we can sit outside on their nice terrace.
Great spot in Central Park
Went for brunch and sat outside, nice relaxing vibe, with good attentive service. Couldn't fault the food which was delicious, only one criticism was the plates could have been hotter as the meals didn't stay hot long enough. However it wouldn't stop me returning look forward to revisiting this lovely little find in Central Park.
We will be back👌
Birthday dinner, for my husband. Strange enough, did they place a "happy bday card" at our table, however no recognition!! Great law is cation, excellent staff, fun and tempting meny. Fig and goat cheese salad, mozzarella and tomatoes (could have been only one mozzarella, and added more tomatoes and arugula) generously, asparagus with poached, perfect, egg and crispy Serrano ham. Yummy. Mango cheese cake, and unfortunately a cold espresso. We enjoyed the evening very much. Our server was very nice and efficient. Several staff, from Senegal, talked to us, as we live in Paris.
Iconic!
What a great time we had at Tavern on the Green we went for lunch and had a window ire of the park. The creamed mushrooms are among the most delicious appetizer we have ever had. The special was trout. What a treat ! If only these walls could talk! What history in this building!
Mom and son trip to NYC
A few friends and I brought our teenage sons to NYC for the weekend. We wanted to have a nice dinner at an iconic restaurant. The Tavern was the perfect place to dine after our horse carriage tour of Central Park. We arrived before our reservation and enjoyed a before dinner drink at the outside bar. We have family that live in the city that were able to join us for dinner. Our party quickly grew to 12. The staff was very accomodating and we didn't mind waiting a few extra minutes so they could seat everyone together. Food and serve was excellent. Our server, Hector was on point and helped with the food selection for a picky eater. Excellent experience for first timers. Only suggestions would be to have more seating outside for patrons that are eating/drinking so they can relax and enjoy the views of the park. We had to stand for over 30 minutes as there were no seats available at either bar.
Amazing food and cocktails
This place never disappoints again it’s our go to for lunch at the bar if you wanted a table I would recommend to book but bar is first come first serve bar food is amazing recommend the shrimp cocktail and short rib sandwich
Good brunch
The weekend brunch menu is not very varied, but the portions are generous and the food is delicious. The service at the bar is excellent.

My partner and I decided to celebrate a special occasion by dining at this establishment. Despite not having reservations, the staff kindly accommodated us with a table at the last minute after I explained the significance of our visit. Our dinner experience was truly wonderful. The server provided excellent service, and the ambiance was perfectly suited for a lovely Saturday night. We indulged in an assortment of pastries, along with the tavern steak, sausage gravy and biscuit, and salmon salad. Each dish was delicious and exceeded our expectations. We look forward to returning in the future to enjoy another memorable meal.
Okay food but loud and rowdy on a Saturday night
The food was okay. The view of the patio was nice. The service was fine. But….if you want a quiet, maybe even romantic, dinner, don’t go on a Saturday night. There were rowdy parties in the dining room, with lots of shouting, whooping and loud talking. Not quite a frat party but close.

Terrible experience with Management
My niece was scheduled to sing at Carnegie Hall, so I thought a nice dinner before at Tavern on the Green for the whole family would be a great way to start the evening. I checked with all the family planning on attending, and came to a head count of 10 for the evening and made a reservation for 10 for 6PM just before the 8:30PM start time at Carnegie Hall. All good and no problems making the reservation (although it did require a credit card to make the reservation). My cousin called me 2 days before the date of the reservation asking if she could bring a date to the dinner, bringing our count up to 11, I checked online and it said it was too late to change the reservation online and I had to call to make changes. So the next day (the day before the reservation), I called and asked to change the reservation to 11. The person I spoke with said no problem and made the change, and I received email confirmation my reservation was changed to 11, told my cousin and she went ahead purchased a ticket to the concert for her date as well. The next day, literally 3 hours before our reservation time I got a call from Tavern on the Green saying whoever I spoke with made a mistake and should not have allowed me to change the reservation to 11 without changing our reservation to a "large party" reservation which required a formal signed contract, prix fixe menu, and a seating time of 5 or 8PM. I was told basically I could change the reservation back to 10 (what would I do with the extra person?) or I'd have to sign the contract (where would I get a fax machine/scanner) and change the reservation to 5pm (how can I convince 10 other people to show up an hour earlier) or 8pm (too late for the concert), and go with the prix fixe menu). I finally convinced the host to let us keep the 6pm start time and agreed to cancel the rest of our sightseeing plans for the afternoon, just so we could go sign a contract in person and go with the prix fixe menu. Literally the worst customer experience I've ever had with a restaurant. When it's your mistake (which it was since their host told me it was all set and no problem to increase to 11), you should just honor the reservation. Making me the bad guy and having to cancel all my plans to accommodate the restaurant by signing their contract (and remember they already had my credit card), is just terrible customer service. Since it was too late to find another restaurant, I agreed to all their terms, including the prix fixe menu. Overall, everyone agreed the filet mignon was just ok, not great, but the salmon was better, and of course we didn't have a choice to choose anything else except the vegetarian option. Management here needs to take a course in customer service. Sad since I really liked this restaurant, and one of the reasons I chose it for this special occasion for my niece's concert.
First time NYC!
It was just lovely. The building and site is beautiful. The staff were friendly and warm. The food was delicious. My first time in NYC, and going to Tavern on the Green set the scene for a wonderful visit.

Iconic location great service, yes expensive but you go for the ambiance. Book well in advance.
My favorite dining in NYC.
So beautiful and the food is delicious always. Excellent staff and th views are incredible. Love this place.
Everything fits… until the end!
Everything fits perfectly, but the underemployed three guys at the entrance can't even call you a taxi after horrendous consumption!! I'll think three times about whether I'll come back - after 24 years as a guest - on my next trip to New York... :-(
Tavern On The Green Tavern on the Green is great for a
Tavern On The Green Tavern on the Green is great for a lovely, casual lunch or brunch. The atmosphere is so very pretty (you're in Central Park). The dining area is beautifully designed to extract every bit of bright sunlight and wonderful views. The atmosphere is now more casual, than years ago, with many patrons dressed in jeans (and even sneakers). Those celebrating something still lean towards business casual or fancier attire. The hosts are always friendly and accommodating, and our servers are so very attentive (they listen and observe dietary requests and are so pleasant). The food is always good (salmon, grilled Chicken, French toast, flatbread pizza, the tavern burger(extra delicious)). The desserts (birthday cake, creme brûlée) were devoured. The experience, while not as formal as it once was, is bright, beautiful, happy and lovely. It is certainly suitable for a special celebration (there are often birthdays, engagements and other celebrations occurring). The prices are much more reasonable than one would expect for such an iconic dining spot. We truly (and often) enjoy our Tavern on the Green, and are always pleased with the food, the iconic and beautifully bright ambiance and accommodating staff. As native New Yorkers, this is a "go to" spot for a scenic lunch, or brunch (although many enjoy it as a celebratory destination) in our beloved Central Park. Good food, lovely service and a stellar ambiance make Tavern a "triple dining threat" in the most wonderful way. Tavern on the Green is a special place that has us returning again and again.
Still amazing & still my favorite place.
Great Bronzino as always mmmm Wait staff is always great
Wonderful brunch with my partner.
The server was really nice and the ambiance was just right for a beautiful Saturday afternoon. We tried the assortment of pastries, the tavern burger, the sausage gravy and biscuit and eggs Benedict. Every dish was delicious. Will def be back.

Iconic place in Central Park with a very expensive corkage fee. I went with my wife and daughter and we ordered almost everything on the menu. Even the parfait was delicious.
Tourist trap.
Food isn't bad but very unremarkable and overpriced. Service is poor. Rude staff with very very little hospitality. One star given for the great location, but many better spots nearby on the upper west side.
Recommend.
The location is outstanding! Right in Central park its gorgeous! The food is very good and the service was great too. Shout out to Jeremy for the great service!
Great experience! I made reservations for lunch & when we
Great experience! I made reservations for lunch & when we checked in, the hostess wished us a Happy Anniversary. David was our server and was attentive and helpful. The kitchen was also accommodating: we ordered the honey roasted figs as an appetizer but I'm not a fan of arugula and asked if they could substitute other greens and they agreed. It was delicious! Just wish they served the fig app with a couple of small baguette slices - that would have paired well with the creamy goat cheese. We ordered the salmon which was cooked perfectly, the lentils were very flavorful and the tavern burger - it was tasty too.
I highly recommend reservations but I have been fortunate
I highly recommend reservations but I have been fortunate to get into the bar. The burger on the menu is the best! I love grabbing a beer/wine and a burger before I continue to walk through Central Park! I usually go with someone so they can split it because it is huge and comes with fries. The location is great and always fun people watching here. Hopefully I'll make it someday when I could sit outside and enjoy the open air of Central Park
The food here is amazing.
The service is very good. And the view of Central Park is pretty cool. The ambiance is pretty good.

Our brunch here was fabulous! I loved being able to see Central Park while we sipped our mimosas. The food and service were outstanding and the view of the park was definitely a plus. The grilled chicken salad was HUGE!
A must visit!
This was our second visit to Tavern on the Green and it did not disappoint! The first time was during the summer months when we could dine in the terrace however this time it was like stepping into a Christmas card. The restaurant and courtyard were decked out with beautiful trees and decorations. The service was first class with knowledge staff providing recommendations and alternative options for gluten free. During service staff never rushed or hurried and left time in between courses to enjoy the atmosphere within the restaurant! Food was fantastic! We will definitely be back! Another lovely surprise we discovered during the day was Tavern on the Green to Go which is located on the outside at the courtyard. There was a small seating area and we had some cocktails whilst enjoying the winter sun in Central Park.

Amazing during the summer months (and just love being the park)! Also love the nights there's a live band outside.

I spent a lot of time researching a nice restaurant that would accommodate our kids and teens for Easter, but was told that there is fixed menu that day for a ludicrous price with food that no one will eat. I tried making a reservation for a different day so we could use the regular menu, and they told us again that we would have to use a fixed menu due to our large (11 people?) party. If you're looking for a nice, family friendly restaurant, go somewhere else. Wish I could give it zero stars.
Disappointing brunch with rude waiter
Went for brunch at noon on Sunday with spouse. Very loud and cramped seating at two top table. Waited until after our food arrived to get coffee and iced tea. Entrees were not served hot at appetizing temperature and coffee was barely warm. Waited for drink refills way too long. Self serving male waiter then complained to us when he was not given great tip. It was embarrassing since it should have been obvious to him that the whole meal was lackluster service. Our brunch was $130 for only two entrees and a basket of bread.
A Classic
I always enjoy this space, the dining or the lounge. The dining side is a must at least once though. It's so bright and cheery with the window-side being a whole wall. The service was just ok, there were things added to our bill by mistake but the food was amazing. I had the salmon and lentils as usual and walked away quite happy and nourished. It's a good idea to make reservations though it isn't always needed.
Classic restaurant in Central Park
While many New Yorkers regard this as the ultimate cliche restaurant, it is in fact really nice, with excellent food, friendly, if not fast service, and a nice atmosphere for chatting with friends. Not inexpensive, but not outrageous. We were really pleased.

How long until I get a refund? Support has been slow, has anyone else experienced this?
I tried purchasing the reservation at $55 but it failed. Then I purchased it for $30 and it succeeded. However the $55 charge still went through on my card and posted
