Best udon I ever ate in Milwaukee! Even though they're known for Ramen place, I was surprised to experience how good udon was. The noodle quality is definitely better than most of other places and it's very chewy which I like. I would definitely recommend udon for this place.
Be the first to ReplyI quite enjoy this place.
The ramen is tasty and it is the closest flavor to being back in Japan that I have found on the east side of Milwaukee. They don't try too hard to make something seem hip and out of place like other ramen shop's I have visited. It's just classic ramen and udon.

I've attempted to go here 3 times now and every time it's been closed, despite their being listed as open at the time online or on their door. Once I even called up to check to make sure they were open, but when I showed up it was closed. Again. I'm not bothering with this place anymore. It's not worth my time.
Be the first to ReplyDon't go for the Ramen.
Joke of a broth and the Pork is rubbery/tough. It looks like they used Pork Tenderloin. The sign of a good Ramen is the clarity of the broth after the fat renders down into clarified goodness. See for yourself... you will be disappointed.

This is not great Ramen if you've ever had even ok Ramen, you should pass or will feel really disappointed.1. No egg as "delivery guy didn't show up", funny they are next to a Whole Foods that I'm guessing has eggs.2. Over-cooked pork medallions, dry and no flavor.3. Soggy mushy noodles.4. One dimensional broth flavor with no layers.5. Almost no seaweed.5. A side of rice? With noodle dish, why?6. Just heard server talking about egg in ramen after she told me they had none ...?

Is it possible to give a restaurant no stars?!It was pure awful wrapped neatly in a sushi roll served with a side salad with what the hell just happened neatly drizzled on top of it. After we walked into an empty restaurant, we were not greeted by anyone for the first few minutes (that should had been enough of a reason to expect less than stellar service but instead we persevered and we ordered). Never got the soda we ordered, but we sorta ordered. They brought us a sad salad- not a side salad, I really do mean a sad salad. We ate it and it wasn't terrible. As my boyfriend and I watched the minutes of his lunch "hour" tick by, (when I say hour I actually mean "the 30 minutes we sometimes spend seeing each other for the first time during any given day") it was obvious we would not receive our food in time for him to enjoy a delicious bowl of ramen. When he inquired what was taking so long (DID I MENTION WE WERE THE FIRST AND ONLY PATRONS WHEN WE ENTERED?), the waitress implied that it was my fault it was taking so long based off what I had ordered. She also implied my boyfriend was rude to want his food before mine when we had no clue how long anything we ordered took to make. He then politely asked her for it to-go and she marched back into that kitchen with a purpose! Her purpose was to have us "overhear" her tell everyone in the kitchen that we needed it to go and blah blah blah (I use quotations because it was almost comical the theatrics this woman used to convey how awful WE were). As my gentleman apologized and kissed me goodbye since the 30 minutes we got to see each other today were up, he was forced to leave me to return to work on time. As I sat there eating my sad food, alone, this same waitress approached me. I really thought she was going to apologize. I was wrong, so very wrong. Instead she decided to tell me that she checked the time on our order and we had not, in fact been waiting 30 minutes. It was beyond the highest level of rude, disrespectful and just plain petty behavior. I immediately told her how I felt, we exchanged words and as she walked away she muttered under/not-so-under her breath something about "the company I keep", implying that the man who went out of his way tonight to have a date with his girlfriend was the problem. This waitress should be ashamed of her appalling behavior. I did not even finish my food I was so hurt and insulted. As I got up to pay my bill and leave, I was accused of trying to leave without paying and then she threatened to call the police. Obviously out of respect for the food that was prepared, I paid the exact amount I owed. In reality this restaurant owes me. It owes me the precious 30 minutes I tried to spend with my boyfriend back. I will tell as many people as I can to never go there. I am still in shock that this happened. I can't believe the three other people in the restaurant that came in after us just sat there as all of this happened.

I'm only giving three stars because the place was way understaffed and slammed, but they both (yes there were only two of them) kept a positive attitude and really hustled to try to make up for it. They were super nice and extremely apologetic. We went here this past Saturday and all of us were STARVING after having skipped lunch. We ordered edamame and miso soup as appetizers and were pleased with how low the prices were... until the food came and we saw the teeny tiny portions that came out. Everything was SO small. The miso had no flavor, it didn't have the classic little tofu chunks or seaweed shreds. It was pretty much just broth. I would say the edamame served probably had about 20 bean pods total if we were lucky. It was $4.00. Very disappointing. Because we have kids, we ordered simple rolls, just California and Philly. Both rolls had rice that was way over cooked and pressed together so hard that the outsides of the rolls felt like paste in your mouth, not the standard rice texture. The rolls entirely were very chewy, didn't have much flavor and again were quite small. $5.00 for a CA roll seems like a good deal, until you get served roll slices that are the size of a quarter. WAY bummed. We will not be back. Thanks to the staff for staying super courteous and sane, but there is a LOT that this place could do to improve.
Be the first to ReplyThe food was really fantastic.
Pork Ramen w/ Cali Roll = total thumbs up. Salad & roll were super fresh. Ramen was extremely yummy! Pork, tender. Was totally skeptical of the location but the restaurant proved to be really clean & nicely decorated. Staff was friendly & personable. Think "east side" - not Bartollata's. Staff truly appreciated that we enjoyed our meals & the compliments. Nice to see that they care & have pride. It shows. Owner is super sweet & talented. Putting this place in the rotation of our standard stops... Will try Udon next time.

I did not realize this place changed ownership until I had already sat down and ordered. I went on a weekday evening at dinner time and I was the only diner in the restaurant the entire time. The fish was not fresh, tasted like it was from last week, as I only ordered sashimi. The ramen was ok. The broth was decent, but the pork tasted like it was reheated in the microwave because it was chewy. This place needs some serious help, as they are losing customers. I will not return again.

This was the best food I have had in a very long time! The owner/chef was so so kind and personable. She was very passionate about the food she made and I could tell that everything was so fresh and made with love! I would 100% recommend this place to anyone! It was our friends birthday and she made her feel very very special too! Please try this place :)
