Wonderful service by the chefs and wait staff, but thats where the good parts end. Ate here on Feb 7th, 2023, and within 1-1.5hrs got extremely bad food poisoning that took over a week and change to fully feel better from. Main symptoms took about 1.5 days to quell, and subsequent ailments like cramps and (to keep it PG) "uneasy digestive issues" persisted well into the upcoming week. Manager Sam called me days after I contacted them about the situation just to tell me poorly informed statistics about Servesafe practices and insisted the single plain slice of pizza I had roughly 10 hours prior was the culprit because "our Austin location hasn't had any issues in 2 years" as if that mattered. Then stated matter of factly, "per the cdc food poisoning shows up 8-10 hours after ingesting the food" (while this is a correct timeline for a few bacteria to develop, it's far from being exclusively true especially when dealing with raw food and improper storage/handling/cross contamination).None the less, with some pieces having 8 plus ingredients of various nature and the Sushi and many toppings being served very conspicuously warm. It seemed and tasted like the raw ingredients had been out all day. This place is a potential recipe for disaster. I was assured they "looked through everything" as if staph and other bacteria is visible enough to look for. Sams solution was simply to "comp a couple of drinks on your next visit". I expect better from a restaurant thats nearly 400$ per person (no drinks were had, did the 3 "upgrades" ~40ish$ value, which included a shaved heap of some of the most unpleasant, dry and pungent fois gras I've ever had and for an additional amount, a few extra pieces of sushi at the end.)Overall, as someone that seeks out fine dining establishments in the hundreds of WELL documented places I travel to per year; this is a place I just simply recommend you stay far away from. There is tons of better food in Espanola Way with managers whom are actually familiar with health codes and don't try to play the customer as stupid.Again, poisoning aside, the atmosphere was very pleasant, the chefs and us patrons had fantastic conversations throughout the dining experience. If you would like to chance being violently sick, then this may be a place of interest. But with no less than 20ish different toppings with many being touted as aged, brined and in house fermented; I had a lot of ingredients to ponder upon as everything was violently expelled from EVERY SINGLE hole my body had for the immediate 7+hrs after eating there. This place is far from Vegas, so roll the dice at your own discretion. Between rebooking my flight home and adding an extra day on my hotel due to being too sick to travel back home, this was a +1000$ experience that was quite possibly the worst I've ever had in my life. Sam's ignorance in health and food safety was astounding and I figured once I told him that I've also been in the industry for years (as a blaring hint) he would stop trying to BS with me, but alas, he doubled down - to which I cordially decided to end the conversation.Save your money, time and health and just skip this establishment, or don't - but thats a risk I urge you not to chance on.
