Food was very good.
The service not as much. I think because the tip is included, the services aren't focused on giving outstanding service. They are going through the motions. I tried to order more food and it was impossible. I guess for some people this is great; not for me.

We had 6 people so naturally the wait was longer than expect,- but ALWAYS worth the wait. The manager, Scott, was genuinely apologetic. That is one of my favorite things about this place. Every single employee, without fail, is genuine. The food speaks for itself. Favorite place and location, hands down!
Be the first to ReplyLove the sushi and their concept of choices.
Quality of sushi is great and pricing is reasonable.

Walked in during lunch time and was able to snag a spot at the sushi bar. Service was quick and very friendly! I got the lunch trust me and everything came out so quickly. I am a huge fan of Sugarfish, but typically order to go so I don't usually get to experience the sit down service. Everything was fresh as always and so tasty. Will be back in person again!

I've seen people in LA constantly posting these amazing takeout boxes from Sugarfish, and so when we moved to NYC, I made it my mission to try one. I'm so glad I did, because it was delicious! It's easily the best takeout sushi I've ever had, and the high quality definitely justifies the higher cost. It was a lot of fun trying out the difference pieces and dressing the fish ourselves. We did one deluxe sampler I believe plus a few additional pieces of sushi and a roll, and it was more than enough for two people!
Be the first to Replysugarfish never disappoints.
the minute we walked in we were greeted by two of the nicest and most kind and helpful people; eva (main host) and wendy (manager). their job is quite stressful with customers that lack patience BUT eva and wendy handled themselves (and their customers) with such patience and grace. i also want management to know that sean (runner) was/is also exceptional. such a good guy and sooo hardworking. sugarfish, you are so fortunate to have eva, wendy and sean on your side. thank them for us. we appreciated the whole experience.
Be the first to ReplyNOT GLUTEN FREE FRIENDLY.
Never had any issues at Sugarfish in SoHo but this one really let me down. I bought a gluten free friend because the SoHo location was always great about it. Here they had no tamari, and made her feel really bad about asking for a little lemon, salt or vinegar. The manager came out and basically berated us about how it would be too costly for them to accommodate that and that the kitchen is really locked down on what they can use. It's okay to just say no and not make someone feel bad. She just wanted to add a little moisture and flavor to her food. The food was fine. They also kept saying "gluten safe" which is hilarious because it was gluten FREE but not a safe space for those with celiac or GF.

So I loooove Sugarfish and frequent often because I'm addicted! The last few times at the flatiron location, the service has been disappointing. First I was asked if I'd like anything else with my meal before the check, and I was only halfway through the meal. Bit that's ok. Then I left the restaurant and returned forgetting my purse. The girl at the counter said, I'll be there in a moment and just stood there I told 2 others and they just stared at me. Then I told them I was anxious about my purse and would appreciate them looking or that I could look myself (at the empty table). They just stared at me. Really weird. Finally one of the girls went to retrieve my purse. It was like a power stand off.... Not the way I would have handled it. Food was excellent as usual though!

Do yourself a favor and please come try this magnificent establishment. We had the "don't think. Just eat. Trust me." And it was a heavenly experience of sashimi and hand rolls. Washed down with a Sapporo Reserve. I come to this place at least twice a month

Amazing every time I go for dinner or lunch, you can't go wrong. The fish is so fresh I can eat it 6 days a week if it was closer to me. I hope one opens closer to me than an hour and a half away.

WOW!!! when I came here with my husband I was so shocked by how good it was. sugarfish had the best sushi i've had in a long time and i'm definitley coming back
Be the first to ReplyGreat value for the price.
I paid $72 for a full course of sushi. We were all full. There were 7 courses with about 2 pieces of each type. However, the sushis aren't as good as regular omakase restaurant.Nothing to write home about but the good value. The $72 course did come with toro and otoro.Another plus was that it was a no tipping establishment, which was a big deal for the price. The wait was also quite long. And the restaurant was rather dark. Maybe they saved all the cost by reducing electricity cost.

Want great sushi after watching a Broadway show, Sugar fish is the spot. They don't take reservations, so best for smaller parties. I really enjoyed their "trust me" tasting menu option. Every dish was fresh and delicious. Also no tipping allowed and excellent service!
Be the first to ReplyI came on a weekend evening at 5-6pm.
It took like 1 hour to be seated. The interior of the restaurant is very dark and very few light which isn't my favorite. I ordered The Nozawa Trust Me Set. At this location I felt the food was not as good as the soho location. The fish quality is still good and better than your average sushi restaurants in nyc. The customer service here seems the same as soho location maybe a little worst. I guess it has to do with how busy they were. Which also affected the chefs and the quality of the food. Still recommend but come in a not so busy time like the weekday.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent sushi at this price point.
Walk in only, so if you arrive at peak times be prepared to wait around an hour. The 'Trust Me' tasting menus are excellent, highly recommend going with one of those and then adding more pieces if needed. The rice is not packed too tightly so it does fall apart beautifully in your mouth.Love the no tipping policy, everything is very fair and transparent and the service is very good also.

Heard about this place for so long and so grateful I got to give it a try. Known for being an affordable yet quality omakase spot it def lives up to the hype. Walk ins only but they'll put you on a waitlist and update you via text so you can go elsewhere to wait.Everything here was delicious - so fresh, mindfully prepared. The otoro was my favorite as well as the albacore tuna. The hand rolls were also DELICIOUS and the warm rice - I'm a fan. Would def come back here!!
Be the first to ReplyWent here on February 10, right after seeing a show.
Walked in, took a Seat, ate three edamame and noticed worms in my edamame. Literally ruined both mine, and my boyfriends appetites. We didn't take a picture we were too horrified. We silently got up, took the plate to the woman at the check in, and said "no thank you to dining here today", And walked out Check your food before consumption

We came into Sugarfish on an early Saturday evening, about 5pm. There was no wait for us - a party of five. The space is simple, but elegant. Dark and intimate with modern, clean wood decor. We were immediately greeted by service staff with water for the table. Our server arrived and asked if we had been to the restaurant before. After saying no, she explained the menu. She appeared to be bothered, like she needed a good break or something. She was short-tempered and not friendly whatsoever. Throughout the service all other staff members were lovely, but her energy was just off (hence the minus one star). She made me uncomfortable. The food is stellar. We went with the Nozawa Trust Me Omakase, which was plenty of food. The sushi is just beautiful. Sushi rice is gently warm and super flavorful, with the best texture. The plates were perfectly timed. I'm going to crave this sushi for a long time. I can't wait to come back!
Be the first to ReplyGreat sushi and rice.
I am very picky about my sushi, especially the rice. The rice is fresh and so is the sushi. I go here alone and often can easily find a spot during rush hours. Their process is efficient and I am in and out before the lunch hour is done. I generally get their Trust Me.The restaurant is clean and does not allow for tips. If you pay with a card, you don't need to sign anything when you are returned a receipt, freeing up time for the next customer. It's actually not that expensive compared to other sushi places of similar quality, in my opinion, which makes it all the better!

Definitely recommend. Special thank you to Cathy for a great experience!

This is better than 3 stars (at least 4 stars based on pricing alone) but I couldn't just couldn't justify adding in one additional star. Came here on a date and the ambiance was nice. I got the DON'T THINK. JUST EAT. TRUST ME which includes a couple pieces which are slightly different from the normal TRUST ME. Each piece/dish came out separately and we ultimately spent about 1 - 1.5 hours here. Stomach left feeling content. Note, tips are included into cost already.
Be the first to ReplyYUM! I understand the hype.
We walked in at 6ish on Tuesday night and were sat immediately! Although it's a tad noisy, we had a great time. The food was so delicious and fast! Definitely will be back.
Be the first to ReplyWe came here for dinner on a weekday and it was bustling!
We came here for dinner on a weekday and it was bustling! Fortunately, we were able to get seated by the bar. My friend and I ordered the Nozawa Trust Me and were quite satisfied, adding only an additional order. We started off with some salted edamame beans, served in their pods. Next came the tuna sashimi, seasoned in ponzu. It was good, nothing spectacular. The trio nigiri came next, with two pieces each of albacore tuna, sea bream, and salmon. The albacore tuna was very fatty and delicious, though the rice was loosely packed and fell apart shortly. The toro handroll came after and it was so fatty! One of my favourite bites of the evening - overall, I found the handrolls to be delicious with the warm rice against the super crispy seaweed. You definitely need to eat it while still fresh. Another trio of nigiri soon followed, with bluefin otoro, sea bream, and hotate (scallop). The cold scallop was subtly sweet but its flavour was overpowered by the vinegary rice. I found that eating it separate helped to preserve the flavours better. The sea bream had a nice chew, and the otoro was good albeit slightly sinewy. The blue and Dungeness crab hand roll came last. This was my favourite, just leading the other hand roll by a small margin. The crab was very sweet and warm, and mayo helped elevate the flavours slightly. My friend ordered an extra unagi nigiri to round the meal off and that was delicious too. A great meal! Not perfect with some loose rice and heavier flavours, but still good.

Especially in NYC, you just won't find a better omakase deal for the portions/quality/ambiance. If there is one I'd love to know. Always on the search for reasonable omakase. Also a huge fan of their blue crab roll. Only downside is no reservations but we're fine with that. We plan for the wait and have drinks somewhere else. Or do takeout. Love the focused menu. If you're GF like me, note that they totally accommodate, but do NOT have Tamari. We bring our own :-)

After several attempts to dine here we arrived earlier in the day this time and were seated right away. Can't recall which service we ordered but it was the largest option. The food and service were both very nice, we really enjoyed the presentation order as we're regularly fast eaters and this prevented that, which is another good thing about this place. Enjoyed SugarFish and will be back.
