Flawless food, reasonably priced.
Excellent restaurants are popular for a reason and therefore expecting to sit down as soon as you arrive is an unreasonable expectation. Sugarfish do not take reservations, but they do operate an excellent queuing system. If the wait is under 30 mins, there’s an area you can sit and wait until a table is ready for you. If it’s over 30 minutes, they’ll take your number and send you a text telling you to come back. We arrived at 5:10pm (pre theatre) and were sat down by 5:30. The sushi is unquestionably the best I’ve ever had. There are four set menus called ‘Trust me’ - priced at $30, $43, $56 and $72. The three lower priced menus have each course listed, and the top end (called ‘Don’t think. Just Eat. Trust Me’) is more of a surprise. We went for the $43 option. After ordering, the first course (of eight) arrived in minutes. Each subsequent course arrived within minutes of the previous being cleared away. Every single mouthful was divine. The rice was still slightly warm, the seaweed for the hand rolls was perfectly crisp, and the fish was very obviously fresh. We also had Sake - definitely recommend, also delicious. I will definitely be visiting one of New York’s three Sugarfish restaurants next time I’m in the city. Needless to say - I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough to anyone.
Be the first to ReplyWorth waiting - most delicious sushi
From all sushi experiences I have had so far - this was the best one. There are no reservations so if you plan to visit, have in mind that you may quite some time (their update system with text messages is brilliant). Still - it is definitely worth waiting. Every little dish is a piece of art. We will certainly be back again soon :)

I've been a loyal customer for years, and will continue to be. Best spot for simple and fresh sushi that's reliable in NYC!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing, delicious fresh sushi
Such a fresh and flavorful dinner. Everything from the start was served perfectly. I ordered the THE NOZAWA TRUST ME. Delicious and perfect sized portion. We paired it with a nice Sake and enjoyed every plate. The only downside was the wait. We were told 60-90 minutes so we went to a nearby bar for cocktail. After an hour I received an alert to check in as there were just 5 people in front of me I like the messaging system since you could see where you are in the queue. We came back and checked in with the hostess and then still waited another 50 minutes. It was worth it. The food really used to be delicious. Just wish the checkin wasn’t done so early.
Be the first to ReplyDo They Take Reservations or Not?
The Sugarfish Flatiron NYC web site clearly states that they don't take reservations. However, when we visited on 11/30/2023, the hostess asked if we had a reservation. There was a 45-table wait. Needless to say, we weren't number 46.
Be the first to ReplyBest sushi in my life
We had one of the menus, it was the best sushi I’ve ever had. The fish is so fresh and tasty, the rice is amazing. It’s a bit pricey but it includes service, they don’t take tips and reservations. It was a Friday, they close at midnight.
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding for late lunch
We loved our late lunch experience so much that we went back the following night for dinner-- unfortunately, the second try was a different experience. While the service was efficient yet very pleasant and professional at lunch, the night crew rushed us and was not very friendly. I do not know if the chefs followed the same path, but I found the food less good as well. I highly recommend at lunch--- but not as an after show restaurant.

Absolutely Amazing sushi. We went here for my birthday this past weekend and it did not disappoint. We ordered the full omakase and so glad we did. Each item was incredible. Service was outstanding as well. Will definitely be back next time we are in NY.
Be the first to ReplyThe best sushi I’ve had in NYC!!
The wait was about 15-20 mins but it was absolutely worth it! I took 2 friends from Atlanta and Peru and we did the 5 course meal and wow!!! So amazing!! The sushi just melts in your mouth and the taste was incredible. The staff was very nice and always smiling. They all had such amazing personalities! Can’t wait to bring more people there for lunch or dinner soon. FIVE STARS ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Be the first to ReplyVery Good
As noted on their website, SUGARFISH does not take reservations. We joined the waitlist on a Friday evening, and the wait was a little over 60 minutes. All members of our party ordered the "TRUST ME" for dinner and thought the food was wonderful. Gratuity is included in the menu prices, which made paying at the end of the evening quick and simple.
Be the first to ReplyJust don’t. Pick another spot
Just don’t. Save yourself the time and effort and pick another restaurant in the crowded restaurant area of soho. You walk in and are immediately treated with patronizing staff. The wait times are unrealistic and to drinks never even came. Such a shame as we had heard good things.
Be the first to ReplySo Fresh , Delicious & Perfect!
It was a perfect experience. We chose the “Trust Us” option and every dish we tasted was absolutely delicious and perfect.
Be the first to ReplyLovely food, but rushed or as my wife said “it’s rice and fish” nothing else
The food was lovely, but the service rushed. I guess the concept is to sell the set menu’s and re-sit the table as frequently as possible in one evening. It obviously works for the restaurant as I would go back again, but if a competitor offered the same quality but more service then….
Be the first to ReplyFresh and delicious!
So much mediocrity in the NY sushi world. This place has fresh and delicious food. I recommend the omakase offerings. Every piece was excellent and the rice, perfect. This trip home, I went to the Soho location. Friendly service and delicious food that is not overpriced.
Be the first to ReplyBad experience
Food quality is good. Dishes are not very creative but the fish is awesome.
I’ve been there many times but last one was bad. I’m not sure when I’ll be back.
I sat at the Bar for dinner and the guys inside the kitchen (big bow window kitchen) were playing their own music pretty laud. Restaurant ambient music was interfering theirs. I sat there for an hour and no one noticed? When I told the manager that everything had been great except that they were playing to songs at the same time all the time, she replied back: “This is the kind of restaurant that we are”…. OMG… I’m not sure if I’m coming back.
Good deal
Sugarfish is solid for what it offers. You're not here to get the best sushi or experience in the city. You're here because you'd want sushi that doesn't break the bank and you want to be full. That's what Sugarfish can provide.
Be the first to ReplySuper bad experience!
Super bad experience! I won’t come back again!
I’m visiting NYC for the first time, and some friends recommended me this place but it revealed itself as a complete disaster.
After going there and booking the table for 4 people (because they don’t accept any reservation in advance), we were told to wait 1 hour and a half and so we did. After almost two hours the waiter topd us that we had to wait because before us there were 7 tables waiting to be served.
After us, another group of people came and WITHOUT ANY RESERVATION sat before us, and when we told this to the waiter, he tried to explain that we just had to wait, without explaining why other people that came after us were served before. He didn’t do anything to help us or find us a table, and so we got out of the restaurant.
A shame
A shame. We showed up in 4 and after
booking we waited for 2 hours to see
people move on. After asking the staff,
there were no explanations.
Sugarfish!
A peaceful, unobtrusive and heart warming place for a lovely meal... Had the THE NOZAWA TRUST ME and a few other hand rolls and sashimi. Every dish was delightful. Nothing was left on the plate... Perfect! Just perfect!
Be the first to ReplyDelicious option in NYC
Great option in a city that Japanese food is treated with the respect it deserves. Great quality fishes and fair prices.

Best sushi I’ve had in NY. Visiting from DC, so I appreciate that the restaurant checked our vaccination cards.
Service was excellent and the fish was extremely fresh & high quality. We did not try any Trust Me omakase options, but ordered a la carte instead and was not disappointed. My only surprise was that the medium fatty tuna (chutoro) was better than the otoro…my otoro was too sinewy (instead of fully melting in my mouth).
The edamame is really the size for one person (we ended up ordering two). The ikura (salmon roe) was as if right out of the fish. You can tell the difference.
I also like that you can add yourself to the waitlist online (if there is one), and you receive text updates. Will def be back again!
