After watching Edward Lee on Top Chef Texas and finding him hilarious, we endured DC rush hour traffic to try Succotash Prime. We opted for the Taste of the South, which is a $59 five-course tasting menu. The good:- Deviled eggs: excellent flavor, and I especially liked the additions of bacon jam and green tomato that gave them a little extra oomph that set them apart from other deviled eggs I've had. I also appreciated the extra filling underneath the eggs, which made me feel like I was getting more bang for the buck - Shrimp and grits: very generously sauced with great flavors. The addition of dill and "holy trinity" of veggies made the flavors sing and lightened up an otherwise heavy dish. I do wish there were more shrimp though, four doesn't seem like enough - Chicken and waffles: deliciously crispy chicken, sweet crunchy waffle, with a thoughtful inclusion of pickled okra to complete the flavor profile. It was a satisfying bite with all elements included- The service was exceptional. Our server, Elias, was very knowledgeable and gave us detailed descriptions of each course. He also made sure that the courses progressed seamlessly, with little to no downtime in betweenThe bad:- Steak: our least favorite course, the steak was a little overcooked and underseasoned. We felt like this course could have been substituted for something more southern and "in line" with everything else on the menu, like the crispy catfish- Succotash: loved the flavor and the curry-like sauce, hated the excessive Lima beans. Less Lima beans, more corn please!Overall: 4.5/5, I can definitely see myself coming back here for some dope southern food
