Okay if you are in the area and would like some Pernanakan food
As Peranakans, we were curious about the restaurant and so took the MRT all the way to Beauty World to try the food. We tried the set for 2. The assam fish was the highlight - it was fresh, the assam flavor was just right, and there was more than enough meat for 2. However, the rest of the dishes were disappointing. The chap chye consisted mainly of cabbage, with little embellishment. It was also on the sweet side. If you look at the picture of chap chye on the restaurant's web site, the chap chye has many ingredients, including fungus, tanghoon and prawn. I must say this is rather misleading. The buah keluah chicken was also on the sweet side (the chef must have a sweet tooth :)) and considering it was a set for 2, I thought it was not very nice that only one buah keluah nut was served. The bakwan kepiting was so so. The food was OK, for the price, but we will not travel again so far just to eat the food. If the restaurant's argument is that we had the set - quality should not be compromised just because it's a set.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Peranakan Food
It was a quiet Tuesday night and I’m so happy to visit the restaurant for the first time. We ordered Beef Rendang, Chicken Rendang (yes we love Rendang) and Omelette. I must say that it was one of the best peranakan food in town. We ordered Bobo Chacha and Cendol as well, and it was superb! Most important thing is, service is good. Will definitely recommend this restaurant to my friends. Blessings to your team!
Be the first to ReplyTerrible service for advance take-out orders
I ordered via email food days in advance for self-collection on CNY eve - some (hot) dishes for lunch that day and others (chilled) to be consumed the next day. Was told by a staff on the phone that they open at 11 am and I could pick-up the food at 11.30 am. When I got to the restaurant at 11.20 I was made to wait outside for 10 minutes - it seems they open at 11.30. When I was allowed in, I was told by the wait staff that I had to wait for their manager to finish her phone call - they do not know anything about my order. Then I was told by the manager that the food was not ready and I had to wait for 10minutes - even the chilled food was not prepared in advance. She then frantically started scooping the chilled chicken curry/buah keluak into boxes and shaping the pork balls I ordered (I was not told these will be given to me uncooked). The lone chef was busy with the hot food I ordered. In the meantime there were several wait staff just hanging around - their manager had to reprimand them for fiddling with their mobile phones. In the end I had to wait for 45 LONG MINUTES. A customer who was in the restaurant walked out after waiting ages for her food.

This is an unassuming modest restaurant on level 4 of Beauty World Centre. Come with no expectations and you will be surprised by the good homely food they place on your table in a timely manner. We had fresh and tender Ikan Assam pedas(fish tail) which had a good sauce. The chinCharlok omelette was zesty n moist. We enjoyed the ladies fingers with ikan bilis which had lots of wok hei, and the sotong with black squid ink was fragrant and delicious. Bak wan Kepiting, cooked with big slices of cabbage and pork balls, was clear and lightly seasoned. We enjoyed the chendol dessert, which was well balanced and rich and tasty. We noticed many solo diners coming in to enjoy their set meals.
Be the first to ReplyFood is not bad but service is lacking
Went there with a party of 9 on a friend's recommendation. The food was not bad, love the braised pork, Assam fish, otah and sambal sotong. However, the portions of some of the dishes were really small, more for 2-3 dinners. The staff should have told us about the portion size and recommend us the appropriate portions for our group. Skip the desserts. We ordered all the desserts on the menu (except for pulut hitam which was out of stock) to try and they were all super sweet. The service was also lacking. The price was not cheap. We paid about $35 each for the meal.
Be the first to ReplyDecent Peranakan Food. Basic Ambience
Review by Dr SIm. The Peranakan Food is decent. Service is below average. Table is not wiped clean enough. Regards Dr Sim
Be the first to ReplyDon't bother!! Standard dropped!!
Extremely small portion, freezer burnt meat, slow service and sounds like a wet market!!! Will never go again!
Be the first to ReplyTerrible attitude of staff
Last time with 7 of my friends we visited this restaurant. It's small and noisy with staff having an attitude. The food was so so with meagre portion per serving. Found a piece of plastic in the dessert I almost swallowed it. Staff was notified she simply shrugged it off saying it's from plastic bag and that's it. No apology or showed any concerns. When I mentioned it again to her she suggested we report to the authorities as she just work there and couldn't care less.

This restaurant is situated on the fourth floor Beauty World Centre, same floor as the hawker centre. There is a large selection, had the Bankwan Meat Balls, beef rendang, sambal udan (prawn), mixed vegetables, ayam buakluek, egg omelette. The chendol has good gula melaka but chendol jelly too soft.
Be the first to ReplyA Saturday night's dinner
The ambience was nice and the food was good. Service is a little slow today as it was crowded on a Saturday evening. The babi pongteh was excellent, ngoh hiang was good, chap chye was a bit too sweet, the asam fish was excellent. The meatball soup was ok, found it slightly salty. The chendol was excellent but the boh boh cha cha was mediocre.
