This is a really cool place.
Escargot was fabulous. Probably the best I have ever had other than Lena's in the east Village. The people here were so friendly and nice. The steak frites was spot on.

Cozy and food was prepared to perfection! The Cote Boeuf (Ribeye) was absolutely delicious! The waiters come to show you the sizzling steak then cut it up for you (both pictured). I would recommend the Au Poivre sauce over the Bearnaise sauce. We also had a delicious cherry almond flower pie with chantilly cream. Would highly recommend!!
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely incredible steak.
Came here with my boo for Valentine's Day and the place was packed. The best part was when the cook came out with the steak still in the pan and offered it we wanted to take a photo of it before serving it to us.

The service is amazing and very attentive. Very cute and nicely decorated place. The hanger steak is a bit tough but everything else is great. The soufflé is chef kiss, def satisfy the sweet tooth. The onion soup is great too.
Be the first to ReplySteak Frites Bistro is a solid French steakhouse at
Steak Frites Bistro is a solid French steakhouse at reasonable prices. Their prix fixe lunch ($38) and dinner ($55) menus are total steals, giving you ample amount of food and great variety. For those looking to order outside of the prix fixe menu, there's different cuts of meat that can be shared across 2 people (cote de boeuf, chateaubriand) for a bit of a higher price tag. We were a party of 4 who got 2 prix fixe menus, an assortment of cheeses, a cote de boeuf, and an additional cake for the table, which gave us quite the variety. Out of the appetizers, we had clear winners: - Grilled Merguez Saucisse: the meat was seasoned perfectly and matched well with the harissa and the gigante beans. This dish was neither particularly small nor large and made for a great start. - Selection of 3 cheeses: we got 2 cow's milk and 1 sheep's milk cheeses and all were delicious, but the creamy semisoft white cheese was the true standout here. With $7 for each cheese, this plate is rather pricy, but made for an easy sharing experience. - Pate de Campagne: our table was not a fan. The pate was not very creamy or spreadable and did not taste great. I'd skip next. For the mains, we had the hanger steak frites with butter and the Cote de Boeuf to share. Unpopular opinion, but I enjoyed the hanger steak a lot more than the large ribeye. It didn't help that we asked for medium rare and got a medium well done ribeye the first time around, and had to ask to get it corrected. They were quite receptive to this request and brought the new steak quite fast. Regardless, the ribeye did have some inedible parts whereas the hanger steak was soft and melted nicely in your mouth. We got the au poivre sauce next to our steak, which wasn't much to write home about; the steaks are good without any sauces. The thin fries that came with both dishes were perfect. The cote de boeuf also comes with a sizable lettuce and radish salad, which was delicious and cut the heaviness of the steak quite well. Now, the desserts. The petite soufflé was warm and gooey, served with a bitter chocolate sauce that felt lighter than other soufflés I've had. The crème brûlée was classic standard affair. We got the vanilla strawberry pistachio cake, which was also light and complemented the other desserts well. We didn't go hard on drinks here but the Lavender 75 is a simple gin based cocktail that had the perfect sweetness and is good to sip in between your large bites of steak. I'd come back here for the prix fixe menu, which luckily is served every single day. 3.5 / 5

Was craving steak frites and I just so happen to stumble on a restaurant whose namesake is exactly that, it was meant to be. Our waitress was amazing, I wished I caught her name, she made the night so memorable and offered amazing suggestions. We ordered cote de boeuf, beef for two people. It was a beautifully seared steak which they parade out to you before they slice it for you. It included a whole roasted garlic and side salad. We added a beautiful red wine sauce which was elevated with bone marrow, decadent was an understatement. The beef obviously came with two fries, but our waitress offered to swap one with another side, we went with seasonal vegetables, so nice! The fries were thin, crisp, and perfect with the mayonnaise it was served with! We were perfectly stuffed!!! BUT, the table next to us were on their desserts and the chocolate soufflé arrived at their table. We were drooling. We really wanted to try it, but we agreed we were too full; however, our outstanding waitress said she can order us a petite to share so we at least get to try, amazing girl! The soufflé presentation was table side and so fun! It was warm and not sweet at all. We ended the meal with an expresso martini and it was such a perfect dinner date.

Be the first to ReplyGreat place! Tartare, cocktails, wine, service.
.. exactly what we needed!! Can't wait to go back!
Be the first to ReplyI loved the ambiance as well as their friendly service.
If I am to make suggestions, slight improvement to food would be ideal in my opinion. Mussel meat was smaller and french fries were a bit wimpy side although the flavor was fine.

Be the first to ReplyWas a good restaurant went in with my coworker for lunch
Was a good restaurant went in with my coworker for lunch although I have to say I was quite disturbed with what happened. As we were eating lunch a hobo woman walked inside the restaurant directly to our table in my face and asked if I had any money to spare. I told her no and she got very aggressive. I was nervous she may have had a weapon or something as she started cursing and getting angry so I got up and walked away. Luckily the server came and kicked her out but at that point my lunch was ruined. I understand it's not the restaurants fault per se but other than a simple I'm sorry nothing was really done. The guy sitting alone at the bar and the lady next to us also received the same sorry but meanwhile I was the only one that had to deal with it. I also overhead the waiter say to guy at bar this woman has come in numerous times before. WTF! I'm not expecting a free meal but he should have at least apologized again with more sincerity or perhaps given us a free drink. Horrible neighborhood by the port authority and no need to go back. Was traumatizing if she did have a weapon could have ended much worse.

Steak Frites Bistro is a good place to get a taste of the French Bistro scene without paying for the airline ticket. I had been wanting to check this place out for some time and the kitchen would repeatedly earn its stripes. I arrived early for my reservation and sat at the bar drinking water. The bartender looked after me well; though I was not ordering drinks, which is commendable. My time for the reservation slipped by and the maitre d' lost track of me sitting at the bar as the place became busy. The bistro is arranged shotgun style with the bar on the right and the tables at the front of the house and along the left wall. The maitre d' took my order accurately. I ordered their very good Malbec, which stood up to all I was to order. I ordered the cote de boeuf, the 32 oz bone in ribeye for two medium rare, which is accompanied by a large two person order of fries and a salad. In my case, I had them hold half the order of fries for me to take home with my take home order off the prix fixe dinner menu, from which I had the onion soup as a starter, the chicken accompanied by its own fries, and the chocolate souffle. The bread, some sliced baguette and sliced rye sourdough were good, as was the whipped butter. The rye sourdough, tasting like beer in a good way, would come into play later. Given I knew certain things would not travel well to take home I started with the onion soup. This was not the best I have had in the US, but comes very close and quite commendable for the restraint in the use of salt. Too often restaurants will over salt the soup. Not here, the flavor of the onion soup and cheese did not need the salty assist. I ordered escargot as another starter. Thinly sliced celery was the only respite from the garlic, butter and herbs. The snails were not presented in the shells on an indented ceramic dish, missing an important presentation of escargot. It's also a bit overpriced. Small chunks of that rye sourdough soak up that delicious sauce and I added more. The Malbec was key to cutting through all this richness. The chef came to my table with the cote de boeuf in the pan and explained it would be sliced and plated in its presentation to me. That is a very nice touch from the kitchen and you smell that searing in the air. The ribeye is presented on a large oval platter, with a salad of hearts of romaine and grape tomatoes in vinaigrette, a roasted head of garlic, and fries on the side. The medium rare was closer to medium, but still quite juicy, with their maitre d' hotel butter scooped over the whole thing, melting into the steak. There is flavor upon flavor popping here folks! This is decadence. I would not recommend preceding this flavor bomb with the escargot. It would be too rich for most people. The steak is delicious, tender and juicy. The marbling, all the juices from the steak and butter, the sear and, if you want to go into decadent overdrive, spread some of that roasted garlic on your steak. If you've had the escargot, you can honestly skip the roasted garlic. It's all so very rich. The fries and hearts of romaine were excellent, but overshadowed by the ribeye. That Malbec was up to the job, as much as the kitchen was on point... I ate the chocolate souffle at the Bistro, given it would not travel well home. The presentation is excellent. Souffle is not that easy to do and they execute this without being overpoweringly sweet. There is bitter chocolate in there in a balanced amount, allowing you to enjoy and taste the authentic cacao. The kitchen shone here with the souffle and would have been better with coffee, cappuccino or espresso to highlight the softly bitter cacao content of their souffle. I ordered the poulet to go with the other half of my fries accompanying the ribeye and another order with the chicken, only to discover they forgot the fries. So this punctuated a disappointment in the end. What can I say, I love fries and who doesn't. The pate appetizer with the cornichon was okay and the only real letdown. However, the chicken is the sleeper at this Bistro. Don't you sleep on the poulet up in this Bistro. It's good, very good. The skin warmed up crisply in the oven and it is juicy and flavorful inside. The prix fixe menu is the bargain value at Steak Frites at $55 for dinner and I would highly recommend the prix fixe. The flank and chicken are both on the prix fixe menu. Otherwise, the Bistro can add-up. Aside from the missing fries (can you tell I was looking forward to them?) and hiccup in seating me, Steak Frites demonstrates what a Bistro is all about. You can get straightforward good dishes served as a great meal at a budget friendly rate or you can go all out if you want to live it up a little. It's elevated above a cafe in this sense, but casual and a step down in price from a full on steakhouse or upscale restaurant. So there is little reason to keep you from checking it out. Four stars

The dessert wasn't even good. It's definitely not worth the drive to the city for this.
Be the first to ReplyWell now.
A decently priced and extremely solid French bistro serving unfussy, unpretentious French fare. Will wonders never cease!Once again, you'll have to brave the hellscape of the Penn Station/Port Authority area, but Steak Frites offers delicious Salade Verte, Steak Tartare and Croque Madame in generous portions at teen prices. The eponymous dish is perfectly cooked, juicy and flavorful, brimming with jus and bursting with umami. This is the kind of cozy neighborhood spot that harkens back to the good ol' days of Hell's Kitchen.

After just coming back from Paris (and hitting up Le Relais de L'Entrecote) I was craving steak frites. Steak Frites Bistro did not disappoint. This was probably the juiciest, most tender cut of meat I've ever had. And it was capped perfectly with the fries (thinly cut, just like I like them) and the side "salad," which were really just a bed of plain greens, but good nonetheless. The au poivre sauce had the perfect amount of creaminess and peppery goodness. The béarnaise sauce was also delicious and perfect for dipping my fries in. I do wish they had the sauce used on the steak I had in Paris at L'entrecote, but as you can see from the picture, we more than enjoyed our meal.

Steak Frites is a buzzy French steakhouse and wine bar on 9th Ave, close to Chi Chinese. The atmosphere and vibe of Steak Frites transports a West Village-feeling milieu to the border of Hudson Yards and Port Authority Bus Terminal, a neighborhood deserving of a nice new place like this. My date and I walked in and received a high-top table, with sturdy bolted-down seats. Reservations are a safe bet if you're aiming to dine at peak times. There's also brunch service as of late, but for my first visit, a prime dinner seemed the proper move. We dispensed with appetizers in favor of large entrees: she opted for the burger, while I indulged in a 16-ounce New York Strip. Both served with french fries, ketchup, and aioli. I also opted for a side of the au poivre sauce. After taking our order, the waitress made a basket of bread appear on the table, and I busied myself tearing off chunks and applying airy, whipped, salted butter. The mains came out as we were sipping draft beers, at which time I ordered a glass of red wine. The steak dominated my plate. I worked at it, piece by piece, for a good long while. Very tasty, cooked just right. The sauce poivrade, in which I would occasionally dip a bite of meat, provided gravy-like richness and a mild peppery taste. Intersperse with forkfuls of fries, wash down with bordeaux, you get the idea. Service was impeccable, though sitting at the high top puts you right between the two lanes of service, and there's a lot of action going on around. I liked the menu and wish to try some of the fancier offerings someday; the chateaubriand, or the Côte de Boeuf. This is a classy joint with pleasant ambiance, tasty food and drink that can accommodate various price points. I'm glad I paid a visit and it feels good having this option in the area.

We went there during the weekend brunch, and they had a two-course brunch menu for the Restaurant Week ($30). We chose the starter and the entrée option, and went with Onion Soup Gratinée for our starter.Soup was very nice, came piping hot with melty cheese, slightly on the salty side to me, but not too much. Perfect on a chilly day.For the main entrée, I chose the classic Steak Frites 9oz (additional $10). I ordered the steak medium rare, and it was cooked maybe a bit more rare than medium rare, but I loved it. Juicy and packed with flavor. It came with mountain of fries, crispy and addictive. So satisfying! My hubby went with Moules Mariniéres. It came with a side of pommes frites, a pretty good portion of it too. The dish looked smaller in portion than expected, but each shell contained a huge mussel inside, so it was nice and filling. The broth was great too.We decided to add a little dessert and cappuccino to our order. We got Petit Pot de Crème, very chocolatey, great for a chocolate lover. We had a nice brunch here. We were happy to finally take advantage of the Winter Restaurant Week menu. I was a bit surprised that it was just two-course menu, since most places I've dined during the restaurant week offer at least three-course menu. But we turned it into three-course meal with added cost anyways... The food was delicious, and we enjoyed every bite. Service was not particularly friendly, but efficient and courteous.

Came here for early Valentine's Day dinner and restaurant week. Steak was nicely cooked and frites were nice and crispy. Server was very nice and the restaurant felt rustic. Would recommend for a date night. Overall pleasantly pleased. Would recommend trying it.
Be the first to ReplyA fortnight ago I had lunch at Steak Frites Le Bistro.
Located on West 38th Street, this restaurant is owned by two partners, one of whom is French Canadian. The exterior of this bistro has wrap around French windows with seating Inside. On entering the restaurant there is a long bar to the right and quite a few people were already having brunch. I was seated at a wooden table near the front. From the menu I ordered moules frites. A linen lined basket came with thick bread slices and a tiny ramekin of butter. The kettle of mussels arrived soon after which had sprigs of thyme along with more thyme and two bay leaves. Thin slivers of garlic and sliced onions perfumed the sauce which was ample. The mussels were plump and juicy. The frites were quite tasty although I prefer the ones at Boucherie more. The dessert menu had tempting choices but I was too full to have one. Being an old building the restrooms are in the basement. I had gone to wash my hands before lunch and was told that the last step was deep. It was. I wondered how I would fare if I had drunk a glass of wine and wanted to venture downstairs. This is the one reason that I am hesitant to return even though I would like to have the steak frites. The interior had lots of pictures and mirrors. The service was friendly and efficient.

Ambiance: cozy little spot that is relatively new in midtown. It's an easy walk from major subway lines. Interior has subdued colors and the noise level is more quiet than average restaurants in the area; it's a nice change of pace! Food: we ordered the burger and French toast. Burger was great! Cooked medium rare as we ordered and more of a straightforward, well made burger. The fries are thin cut, which we appreciated and crispy. The French toast was on the soggier side for my preference. I think they do their savory entrees better than the sweets. Service: no concerns about the service. We arrived on for Sunday brunch around 11am and was not too busy. Our waiter was attentive and accommodating. Worth it factor: 8/10. Nice and quaint bistro, worth a try!

You ever been to a restaurant where the staff makes the already good food taste better because of the service? Well this is most definitely one of them. My wife had the salmon and I of course had the steak frites(hanger steak) and could not had left more satisfied. Will definitely go back.
