Literally incredible.
The best service I've had in DC to date. Great food and a lovely atmosphere.

Life-changing. Revolutionary. Unforgettable. You have done it again. Thank you, St. Anselm.
Be the first to ReplyI had heard great things about St Anselm and was pleased.
I do plan on returning as I'm interested in trying their brunch. We had a reservation for 515pm and arrived late but felt like the restaurant was very accommodating. The ambiance was typical for a Friday night crowd. Our server, Carlos was attentive and answered all of our questions. I'm a picky eater and hard to please but from the appetizer's, drinks, sides and meats, I can say I was impressed. We had the biscuits, oysters and deviled eggs for an appetizer, I had the apple cider for a drink, with the butcher's steak (amazing) and Brussels sprouts and fingerling potatoes for sides. Also, I loved the decor and want to try the sitting outside on a warmer day.

I came here for brunch and the service was quickly, ambiance was lovely, decor was fun, and food was incredible. I am not one to order dessert but their ice cream cake was seriously to die for. It comes with a brownie crumble layer, which I love. It kept me going back for more. I thought I would like the carrot cake, but this was my favorite dessert by far. I heard that the biscuits and pimento cheese are a must get here, so I will definitely have to come back
Be the first to ReplyI visited for the Saturday brunch.
I got the steak, sunny side up eggs and potatoes. The eggs were good. The potatoes were seasoned and tasty. I ordered my steak medium. It was medium well and chewing. The ends were burnt. The béarnaise sauce on the steak was very mild. I got the Limoncello Spritz to drink. It was STRONG. I had to add lemonade to it. I might return to give it a try. I feel like the restaurant has potential to be great. Inside and outside seating is available. Service was excellent. Ambiance was decent. I can tell it can't get loud when it's packed. Bar is small and beautiful. Give it a try!

They were able to accommodate a large party and communicated back with us quickly. Our waitress was extremely helpful and spoke loudly enough for all of us to hear, given that the restaurant is very loud. It is also dimly lit, I didn't particularly like the ambiance. Garden julep - this cocktail tasted like lemony alcohol and I couldn't detect the earl gray flavors that were supposed to be in it. The lettuce decor on it was funny Buttermilk biscuits - it should be illegal to have biscuits this good. They were immaculately flakey and buttery, a 10/10, and the pimento cheese spread to go with it made it an 11.5/10. It was an absolute privilege to be able to take the leftovers home and enjoy them the next day. Blue crab deviled eggs - generously portioned, I was hoping there would be more of a natural sweetness from the blue crab. I enjoyed it but wouldn't get it again. Ribeye steak - a little chewy and challenging for me to cut through. Good for anyone who enjoys a fattier steak, which I learned is not my preference. Crispy fingerling potatoes - nothing special, nice charred skin, came with a yummy ranch sauce

Saturday brunch, walked it and we were seated straight away! Warm vibe and jovial atmosphere! Ordered the steak and eggs with fingerling potatoes and it was PHENOMENAL! The star of the show were the potatoes! Apparently the process to make them is multi step event! They were well cooked with the skin on and seasoned to perfection. Simple food and no fuss. Make sure you ask for Alex! She took great care and attention to us.

The vibe was good. The food was good. Not amazing but quite good. Biscuits are worth the calorie hit for one or most of one but not for the calorie hit of two. Overall would definitely go back.
Be the first to ReplyCame to brunch here and thought it was good.
I'm GF and sadly there wasn't many options for me. We got the thick cut bacon as an appetizer and I got the steak frites for an entree - both were good!

We went on a rainy Saturday night to celebrate our son's 16th birthday. It was a very pleasant experience. The appetizer and small plates were very tasty. We ordered biscuits, cabbage, and the salmon collar and liked the cabbage most. The salmon collar was big enough to be an entree. Then, for main courses, we ordered two kinds of steaks, a pork chop and the lamb. I personally liked the butchers steak most, which was perfectly medium rare, but the portion wasn't big. I guess 6 or 8 oz. They used a very Asian (Thai) source for the lamb leg, which was a happy surprise. Our NY Stripe was a bit overcooked, but my son liked the source. My daughter's pork chop was disappointing. It tasted very salty, like a bit chunk of ham with a T bone. That's a big miss. But overall, it was a great birthday dinner and we really like the music, the vibe and the little cakepops they gave us for a birthday celebration.

St.Anselm is an American tavern that specializes in meats and simple dishes. This review in particular is for anyone that is considering to dine here and not eating meat. Location: St.Anselm is located right in the Union Market/Noma area and an easy location to park at. Since its nestled in an area with lots of other restaurants and shops it's a perfect place to walk around before or after eating here. The inside of the restaurant is dimly lit and creates a nice vibe for a date. Service: We were well attended to at the bar even though it was a pretty busy weekday night. The bartender constantly checked in with us and every time that my drink got low checked in to see if I wanted another and he made some delicious French 75's. Food: So before coming to St.Anselm I'd heard that it was a great restaurant and was recommended by many of friends to check it out. However before arriving I didn't think to look at the menu and didn't realize it was a steakhouse lol. So when I arrived and saw that there was nothing that really caught my attention at the time, I was kicking myself. I ended up going with the Portobello mushroom entree that came with an adobo marinade, lime slaw, pickled onions and ordered a side of fingerling potatoes. Let's just sayyyy I was struggling to eat this and will not be ordering that ever again. I wasn't really a fan of the marinade. All in all, I would only come back to St.Anselm if I knew that I was in the mood for what they're known for and that is their steaks.

Got the sliced filet and mixed vegetables, paired it with a few martinis. Loved the biscuit appetizers. Service was great and this place is perfect for pictures!!

Haven't been to Union Market area in a while and decided to check out St. Anselm. I will say when making the reservation there were only outdoor patio (I can't remember the exact verbiage for this review) but I called and asked what it meant and was told it was a completely enclosed outdoor structure where you would be warm. Needless to say when we showed up it was not a completely enclosed structure so I was a bit disappointed at that. Luckily we asked and they had some indoor seating available, which saved the night for us. We got the biscuits to start and they are huge! They also give you so many. For entrees we got the salmon, steak and pan fried mashed potatoes and once again HUGE! The portions here pending what you get can definitely be shared. We ended up with leftovers because it was just so much food. Definitely a laid back spot if you're looking for a more relaxed evening.

We had a large group reservation to celebrate an engagement when the power suddenly went out. The management was able to quickly reroute us to another restaurant for dinner and even gave us a choice of where to go. While we were bummed not to eat at St. Anselm, we were so incredibly grateful to be accommodated elsewhere, especially as a large group!
Be the first to ReplyPositives: The buttermilk biscuits were excellent.
The ambiance is beautiful, fun, and energetic. The service (our waitress was named Denali) was good--attentive without being over-present. The two cocktails we tried (a coffee cocktail and the Hemingway daiquiri) were delicious.Negatives: All the other food, which was far below par for this price point. We got the NY Strip offered chef's rec (medium rare). It comes au poivre. The steak was chewy, a substandard cut, a tad overdone. And the au poivre sauce was surprisingly flavorless. Unacceptable at any price point, much less this one. We also got the chicken sandwich. It was, at best, fine. Again, very low on flavor. We also got fries, which were average. And in addition to the cocktails one of us got a soda, which was flat!Overall, we felt fleeced. For this price point, a steakhouse's steak should be pretty good. Here it was significantly below average. You can do a lot better elsewhere.

Delicious food, excellent service, fun ambience go here every chance we get. We take all of our visitors here when they come into town get the steak and eggs

Friends took us here for brunch and it was delicious! Walking in it was packed and I know they made reservations so I'm thinking those are needed. It's kinda modern western!? In there, really cute with private booths! Now to the food, I loved the apps... blue crab deviled eggs a total yes, and pimento cheese with biscuits, I'm from the south and these were some of the best I've had! The biscuits were light and buttery instead of dense or dry, dipped in the pimento cheese made for a great bite! I was pretty stuffed from the apps but got the avocado toast the presentation was beautiful! I was just too full to really enjoy it, and those red chilies were spicy! Drinks were also delicious! Had a Negroni and old fashioned that made brunch happier, lol!

Pros:*the biscuits and the spread are incredible*steals were succulent and delicious *service was spectacular, we were very well taken care of *carrot cake was rich and so good*if you're looking for a date night this is the joint *atmosphere was lively and friendlyCons:*I think this could just be me, but while the oyster plate was tasty, I didn't think it was worth the price. A tasty vector to get butter and herbs for sure, but I wasn't entirely sold*the mashed potatoes were made in an interesting way but didn't quite strike me*cocktail prices Look at the menu prices online before you go. Once inflation is over I'll absolutely go again.

They have a nice mix of savory and sweet selections. The French toast was amazing! Also love the outdoor seating options which are great for the summer!

St. Anselm is that steak place that you're craving when you don't want to go to a stuffy chain steakhouse. Every option we ordered from the steak to the salmon collar was absolutely delicious. The creamed spinach was great as well. The only thing that I wasn't too thrilled with were the cocktail options. I felt that it didn't quite complement the steak or other entree flavors and would prefer a straight wine or whiskey instead.

I always say I'm going to write a review when I've had an amazing experience at a restaurant but I usually forget. This time, I made sure to follow through because WOW we had the best experience here. We went to celebrate my son's birthday during their brunch. From the time we walked in to the end of the meal, we were constantly being catered to. Our server and the manager were wonderful and made sure we had everything we needed. We started off the biscuits and asked for some jam on the side. The biscuits were so good! The jam was also amazing so be sure to ask for a side of it. We tried the eggs, bacon and potatoes meal, the french toast and the steak and eggs. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Be sure to save room for the crispy smashed potatoes! They were so well seasoned. This is where things went from good to great. We asked that the steak come with the sauce on the side but it came out with sauce on top. We didn't mind since it was pretty good. The server came over and noticed the sauce and asked if we wanted a new steak but we said it was all good. Later on, the manager (I think) came over and apologized about the mix up and asked if we wanted it remade but we insisted it was ok. It was delicious as is. It was nice that they checked in. At the end of the meal, they bought out a dessert on the house for my son. When the check arrived, we were very surprised to see that they had removed the steak meal. Overall, this was an excellent meal and we would definitely return again.

Really enjoyed my meal here! I came with some girlfriends on a Friday night. The place was busy, but we had a reservation and were seated right away. The ambiance is fun for a night with friends or a date night. It's on the darker side, but bustling with activity. Our server was great. Just attentive enough and definitely knowledgeable about the menu. We split a bunch of things so we could try a lot, and it was all so good:Deviled eggs - I'm not a fan of deviled eggs in general, but my friends who are raved about these!Farm greens salad - this was soooo good. It had a great toppings to lettuces ratio and the vinaigrette was amazing. Winter squash - I wouldn't have picked this on my own, but I'm glad we got it. The squash with feta and peppers was a flavor explosion all together. NY Strip - this was also delicious. It was cooked perfectly, and because we were splitting it our server had it pre-sliced for us. Really appreciated that touch. Bobo chicken - this is a whole tiny chicken that comes out, which was a little intimidating for us up front. Once we got into it though, it was great. I wouldn't usually pick roast chicken from a menu, but I would definitely get this one again. Crispy fingerling potatoes - I mean, they're fried potatoes. How can you go wrong?Brussels - also great. They were perfectly cooked and the sauce with them was a great addition. I would definitely come back, but not without a reservation!

Had reservations, but still ended up outside, which wasn't terribly cold once the heater kicked in. Our server was attentive and friendly. The blue crab deviled eggs had a good amount of crab on top. The biscuits were amazing with the pimento cheese. Beets were well cooked and flavorful. Brussel sprouts were good. It's a huge portion of salmon collar that was cooked just enough and had good seasoning, but since its so thick, the flavors don't reach throughout. We got two steaks, which were most cooked perfected. Ribeye was better than the NY strip. I would go back just for the Irish coffee and hot penicillin drinks.

We ended up getting reservations for the outdoor seating at this place. The inside of the restaurant is pretty cool actually, and the outdoor seating is well heated and felt pretty private. The service was pretty consistent despite the place being packed both indoors and outdoors. Food wise I felt like there was more to be desired--I mainly felt like a lot of it lacked flavor and the cut of steak felt very average which you would definitely expect more from a steakhouse.Food:Buttermilk Biscuits: this was actually really good! The pimento cheese that came with biscuits were deliciousSalmon Collar: I think this item has super good value, the actual collar is massive--I just wished it had more flavorRibeye: it kind of just disappointed, flavor/seasoning was tough, my medium rare also tasted kinda dry

If you're looking for a calm, romantic, upscale vibe- this surprisingly is NOT that. I walked in thinking it was a quiet, upscale restaurant and did not get that vibe at all. However, the food delivers! I will say that for the price, I would expect a bit more from the environment and ambiance- at St Anselm you get loud rock music with Cracker Barrel-esque decor. It was hard to hear each other even across a tiny table. Food is rustic yet solid, and service was quite friendly and attentive. I just don't know that the holistic experience is up to par with similarly priced steakhouses in the area- ambiance matters and I don't think I'd return for this reason.
