Sqirl Los Angeles Reviews from The Last Year

The good: The staff were really quick and attentive! The menu offered so many great options with wonderful ingredients like sprouts and sweet potato. I got a mulberry donut with a donut hole inside and it was yeasty and delicious. I'm definitely team raised yeast donuts versus cake donuts. They also have other pastries and a cake of the day (wasn't sure what if was but it looked divine). They have outdoor seating on the side that's covered and private while the right exterior also has outdoor seating near the sidewalk. The inside has a communal table and some higher seating by the wall. I had the macro bowl which didn't seem like much at first but it was super filling. I ended up not finishing the rice. It had brown rice, koji sweet potato, shredded carrot & beet, sunflower sprouts, pumpkin & hemp medley, marinated kale, lemon wedge, and ginger carrot vinaigrette that was acidic and not too sweet. The rice was soft and fluffy. The bad: There's only street parking. The interior space is small. The interesting: They have a separate lunch menu and an all day menu as well. They offer catering.

Had a delicious breakfast with a friend! The order process is easy and they have tables out front where you can enjoy and people watch. The service was very friendly and actually recommended the dish I chose. The eggs were SO tasty. Wasn't too busy but I can see this place having a line during the weeks. Will definitely be back!

Counter service, minimal indoor seating, waited quite awhile for my meal (it was a busy lunch), the toast was exceptional, the bowl was good but not phenomenal. The green juice was quite tart. Pretty minimalist environment. I would not drive out of my way for it.

Another one of those trendy spots my family takes me but ive become less critical of places like this. Despite the radiating hipster energy i really enjoyed the place from its bathroom to creative brunch foods. Aeoki palmer was as expected but in a good way and the jam toast thing was hella gas. Sandwich id say was second and then the silky omelette and potato eggplant thing were decent. A fan fs tho

I came in a party of 3 around 10:30am on a Sunday, and there was not a super long line to order. The way it works is you order at the counter first, then find seating and the food is brought out to you. We also managed to find seating, I think we arrived when the early brunch crowd was leaving. We ordered the Essie's Latke, rainbow ricotta toast, and shakshuka. The Essie's Latke was good, but the salmon it came with was quite salty (not sure how they prepared it, but it came out looking super red so we thought it was tuna at first). I loved the cream, roe, dill, and capers with the potato though, super yummy. The rainbow toast was a lot softer than I thought it would be, I had assumed it would be a crunchy toasty toast. The ricotta was good, and so were most of the jams, there was just one jam that my group and I didn't like. The shakshuka was my personal favorite -- the long crunchy bread was great with the shakshuka, and the egg was perfectly cooked! Flavor was great too. After we got our food, the line for ordering went out the door.

Parking isn't the easiest, but I've liked everything I've tried from Sqirl. The toast was great, the rice bowl was great, I'm a fan!

I went for a simple to go order, after waiting for 20 min they met me know they hadn't started my order yet, and didn't seem to care at all. I used to love this place yet it seems like they simply don't care about service anymore because they are too busy.
Crunchy rice bowl had an interesting flavor.
Rice had more of a lemon-flavor with small amounts of tofu and one egg. The brioche toast was bland and only flavorful because of the jam on top.
I'm late to the Sqirl Party I know.
I try to wait until the hype dies down a little before I head over to try new places. Here's my take: Staff: So Friendly I'd cone back even if the food wasn't good. Seating: We sat inside and the seats were comfy and it was cute. Food: Perfect and Delicious!!!! Had Ricotta Toast and Love Love Loved It. Coffee: Vanilla Latte made perfectly We even went Nextdoor after and grabbed come Jam to take with us.

The food was ok, but the milk in the flat white has gone bad. It wasn't tasting right. I still had it and got stomachache for the whole afternoon..
Sqirl always hits the spot for me.
It's the pinacle of LA food, and I love returning and trying different items. In the past I've gotten the sorrel salmon, rainbow french toast, dutch pancakes, long range chicken, cacao nib cookie. This time I got the salmon rillette toast. The sorrel salmon is one of my go to favorite. The rainbow french toast is very instagrammable but not that tasty actually. The dutch pancakes were devine but kinda too huge. The long range chicken is not something I ordinarily would have caught my attention, and actually my friend is the one who ordered it. Well I'm glad she did and let me try some, because that's some of the best soup/porridge I've ever had, and I get it all the time. I also loooove the cacao nib cookie and crave it from time to time. This most recent visit, I was in the mood for something different and light, and the salmon rillette toast hit the spot. Drinks -- I saw they had chicory coffee which I've always wanted to try because it has no caffeine and I'm highly caffeine sensitive. The chicory flavor was very distinct, and not for me. It kinda tastes like bad chai or old coffee, which is because of the chicory, and not because they made a bad drink. I'm glad Sqirl even had it in the first place, so that I could give it a try, because I don't find it in many places. Next time I'll stick my usual matcha order. On my most recent visit, I went for lunch on a Thursday hoping it would be crowded af as usual on the weekend. But it was still pretty crowded as in all the outdoor tables were full so we sat inside. There was plenty of seating inside though. Sorrel salmon 8/10 Rainbow french toast 6/10 Long range chicken 9/10 Cacao nib cookie 8/10 Salmon rillete toast 8/10 Chicory coffee 4/10 Matcha latte 8/10
Sooo so good.
Every time. Seating is a little hard but that's because it's so good! Excellent bread options and pastries too.
I've been hooked on Sqirl since 2016.
I love everything about it. The owner, Jessica, is super nice. I've had the pleasure of meeting her a couple times while in line. Her restaurant is one of the reasons I was excited to move to LA in 2018. I live a 4min drive away. There's usually a lot of meters available right in front of so parking is not a problem--unless it's on a weekend lol. There's plenty of tables outside and it's always nice to enjoy a meal on Virgil Ave, in company of some gorgeous pink cherry blossom-like trees. Service is fast because the workers are competent and sharp. My go-to is the sorrel pesto rice bowl for breakfast, and salmon bowl for lunch. Both are savory and the most delicious dishes in my opinion. The salmon bowl is huge and I'll typically order that for brunch if I'm having a longer work day. I also love their ricotta toast with jam, all the jams are addictingly good! The brioche is the cherry on top!! I could eat this toast forever, everyday, if my health allowed it. My husband is obsessed with the chicken porridge. His only knock is that it's a small portion. He devours in 5min every time. Their coffee is great too. What's not to love at Sqirl, seriously.
