Son & Garden Menlo Park Reviews from The Last Year

Location is in fact OPEN! And let me tell you it was amazing. Opted for street side seating! Service was amazing and food was even better! Definitely will be going again! The atmosphere was so fun and welcoming and the flowers made it pop! Ambiance perfect!
Best Brunch - Thrillist
Googled Best Brunch spots in San Fran, Son & Garden was at the top of the Thrill List, so we gave it a try. Awesome! Really popular on the weekends with cocktails served with cotton candy, but the star of the show was the food. The Fried Chicken Benedict was well as the Ricotta Pancakes were both terrific! Suggest making a reservation because there’s a line up to get a table.

Public/street parking is slim pickings, especially on the weekends. Avoid the place altogether if it's a rainy day. You have to stand outside to wait for your table, and it could take a while. I came for a bridal shower. It was scheduled way in advance, but we waited outside for a half hour waiting. We kept having to ask the host for updates. There's a small picture room with a chair and ring light for pics. This area can get busy and congested, but people are really patient and polite. It's a small restaurant and can get crowded fast! The food is really good. Everyone got something different, and none of us left disappointed. So if you're wondering what to get, close your eyes point and get whatever your finger lands on. They serve alcohol but I didn't try any. However, the espresso martini looked amazing and had great reviews from those who ordered it.

This review is definitely overdue, such a pretty spot for brunch. Beautiful florals, heaters all around and lots and lots of photo ops. My french toast was delicious. The service was fine, our coffee was cold and I remember it being really busy that day. Nothing bad to say but nothing great either. I'm happy to say I've gotten to eat here. (:
Love coming here with my friends for brunch, pretty decor
Love coming here with my friends for brunch, pretty decor and nice outdoor seating. Portions are huge as well. Wish they had more indoor seating since I have been seated outside every time I come there. Presentation is nice as well.

Such a beautiful place and food was really great! A wonderful fusion of Asian and American flavors. The decor is also beautiful. This Palo Alto location is way better than the SF location. Only downside is parking is a little difficult to find, but so worth it!
Love Son and Garden for a ladies celebration.
The cocktails are beautiful works of art. The food is amazing, definitely enough to share. Make sure you take photos, the perfect selfie Instagram spot.
Suchhhh a cute spot.
They have a set up to take pics too. I honestly would come back here hands down any time I visit back. Such cute and yummy food it all just goes well with everything. Service was also nothing to complain about. If you're thinking about it, do it.
The food here is amazing.
However, I would highly recommend making a reservation if you're planning to eat there for brunch on the weekend. Definitely, I would recommend the beef short ribs.
I absolutely adore this place.
Usually a place like this is just cutesy and aesthetically pleasing, but it genuinely has really amazing food. The service is always top-notch, friendly, and attentive. We went in for our the Alice in Wonderland tea experience that we scheduled ahead of time but somehow the staff didn't see it on their end. We were nervous because we live 45 minutes away (yes, we make the drive because it's that good!) and also had our 14 month old with us, so we it was going to suck to not get the experience. But the staff pulled it together for us anyway and I was so grateful for that. It was no one's fault that they didn't get the reservation on their end, but the were kind enough to pull together what they had, very quickly too. The tea was great, the pastries were sooo goooood, and the setting on the table was just too beautiful. They also got an extra star, not only for making space for our daughter to sit with us at the table and being aware of not placing anything near her, but they also had a cute Frozen-theme paper plate for her for her setting. It was cute, like they really go above and beyond to make every single aspect super cute. I can't wait to continue to take my daughter here as she grows up!!
S&G is a favorite brunch spot of ours.
The food is great, but the setting is what stands out - so whimsical and fun. The menu is over-the-top and unforgettable, from rainbow French toast to cotton candy drinks. A bit pricey, but memorable, delicious and well worth it - we always leave with leftovers. The staff is always warm and attentive despite the crowds. The outdoor seating with heat lamps is really cozy. Definitely recommend making a reservation beforehand.

Best French toast I've ever had in my life! I thought my babysitters secret of adding a little vanilla, the cat's meow, until I ate here. Met a coworker for lunch because it was halfway for each of us, so I didn't really have expectations. When I arrived, I was a bit worried because the place was packed and it' not very big. It was so crowded, the waitstaff had trouble squeezing between the tables. Once I got settled, I looked around. The decor is amazing - flowers everywhere! Even if I'm a little Instagram corner, if you're into that sort of thing. Service was quick and when the food arrived I was in awe. I wish I'd taken a picture: thick, perfectly toasty French toast - not greasy or soggy. Piled high fresh berries, and a touch of vanilla cream - not overly sweet, almost savory. Three days later and I'm still thinking about it. I'll be back for sure!
We saw Son & Garden on social media and I already knew it
We saw Son & Garden on social media and I already knew it would be packed all the time! I actually waited a while for us to visit because I knew the wait would be crazy long. We decided to make a reservation and we actually had to make the reservation for 2 weeks in advance since there was nothing sooner. Not sure how long the wait times are now, but I'm glad that they offered reservations. Parking is a little tough but we were able to park in the Caltrain lot. There aren't very many parking spaces but after a few rounds and waiting for others to leave, we were able to take someone's spot. We did have to pay for parking in the lot. When we got to the front, they had a few lines outside: Walk-In and Reservation. Since we had a reservation, I obviously stood in the reservation line. Others started lining up behind me since they had reservations as well. Once the host came back to the podium, they added Walk-In customers to a waitlist. When I told them that I had a reservation, I told them my name and they said they would get our table ready. As we were waiting outside, I started to notice that the people on the Waitlist were getting sat down before us...I thought that was a little odd. What's the whole point of making a reservation if a Walk-in gets to sit down before a reservation? It was definitely weird. Once we were called to head to the table, we definitely saw their famous aesthetic that everyone on social media boasts about! It was very pretty and very pink. The time we went was during the holidays so that consisted of pink wreaths on the walls and even a pink Christmas tree. It was very cute! We sat outside and it was a little troublesome since it was December. They did have outdoor heaters on the ceiling, but if you weren't in the right position, your face would be burning, or you would not feel the heat at all. My family members and I ended up moving the table a bit so that we could all get some heat. One thing they definitely don't show on social media is how packed everyone is. Tables are so close to each other (at least on the patio) and it gets even more cramped when multiple people are walking around and you just wanna go to the bathroom. We ordered the Country Benedict, Fried Chicken Benedict, Ricotta Pancakes, French Toast, and the Complete Meal. The food took a little long to come out, but I'm sure it was mainly because of how busy it was. I do admit that all our food was really good! Each entree was also very visually appealing! There was a lot of flavor and each meal was very filling. The fried chicken was very good and seasoned very well! There wasn't very much cream for the ricotta pancakes but the jam was very good! For the french toast, it was the same where I wished there was more vanilla cream. We actually ended up taking some home since we got full. We heard that it's connected to a Thai restaurant and we were thinking of trying that as well, but that would probably be for another time. Overall, I think the aesthetic and the food are great, but our food was pretty pricey. I'm sure it's due to the location and the popularity, but it's really hard to say we would want to come back when the prices are so high. I think it's a great place to try as an experience but I don't think a place like this is good for returning customers unless you really don't mind the wait, or you don't mind the price.
Beautiful and Delicious
So beautiful when you walk in. The neighborhood is sketchy so it was so nice to walk into a beautiful restaurant. Delicious. I got the lemon ricotta pancakes which were recommended in a blog, Girl & a Passport. My sister got the son and Garden omelette platter is so delicious too. Nice staff, huge tv screens on the wall & beautiful Asian decor.

Prepaid Reservation Fee

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
