A gem in the myriad of Japanese eateries in NYC
We were a group of 4 people and the place seemed to be pretty packed on a weekday. Waited for some mins before we got a table. The Yakitoriโs were recommended where I took 3 types โ Washu beef, Tsukune and the Dakimi Ume which were all delicious (highlight being Wagyu beef). For appetizers, we ordered the Jidori chicken kara-age (fired checiked) and agedashi tofu (shishito pepper) all excellent again. This goes down well with the Jap Asahi Beer and the Nigori Sparkling Sake.

Delicious soba noodles, but the rice dish was even better. Donburi was what the awesome rice dish was called and mine were served with fresh salmon. Try both the soba noodles and donburi rice to see what your preference might be.
Be the first to ReplyNice place for a good Japanese meal.
This was my frequent, and certainly one of my favorite, lunch spots pre-pandemic. Now, lunch offerings seems to be less extensive, but taste and quality are still good. It will continue to be my lunch place.

Love the soba noodles here. Tried the lunch special - vegetable hot pot with pickles, rice and other veggie sides! Excellent.

We arrived on a Saturday evening without a reservation and we were offered the bar area to eat. We agreed and it turned out to be a really nice vibe with great bar staff. We had deep fried chicken thighs as an appetizer then Soba noodles and rice bowls for mains. All well cooked and service was great.
Be the first to ReplyB rated - problems with the hygiene?
We have been here quite a few times in earlier years and it has changed to the worse since last visit.
We order Yakitori skewers.
The meatball - Tsukune was as last time not a meatball but a thin long minced meat โsausageโ on a stick.
The chicken wing was one chicken wing and then some chicken meat.
The Tsukune - mushroom - was pressed flat and dry.
The โlebaโ was quite small pieces.
The - Kawa - chicken skin was not crispy.
We ordered the skewers to be dipped in sauce - not with salt and pepper - and guess what - they were dry with salt and pepper and then we asked for sauce on the side. We were charged extra for the sauce!!
Normally they have earlier years asked if you want salt or yakitori grill sauce. This time - nothing was asked. They even brought the wrong sticks to our table!?
No tea was served as earlier years!
In general the service was questionable and started with that they could not see our reservation even though we had an email confirmation and an SMS reminder 30 minutes before reservation time!!
Best yakitori is Nanbantei in Singapore and also in Hong Kong.
We were again very disappointed after this visit.
Why are you now B rated? Problems with hygiene?
You canโt go wrong here
I have loved this place so much for a long time.
Good service, the place is very nice and the food is delicious.
It may be a little bit pricey, but at least for me it is worth it.
delivers
good food, good prices, good service. I never had to wait more than few minutes to get seated - even in peak hours. the food is consistently reliable and quickly delivered. the decor is ok but it does not diminish the focus on the food.

If you happen to be in the area, check out this wonderful hidden gem of a restaurant. Food was rather good and the service great. I had the cold soba noddles and the sauce was really good (and the noodles fantastic and delicious) along with gyu don (beef and rice) and both were very flavorful and delicious.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Midtown Japanese
From the outside you wouldn't bet on the place, but once you enter...
The grilled salmon belly was amazing, as were the chicken filled peppers. Sashimi also top (no sushi here), and a very comprehensive selection of sake. In the evening we found mostly Japanese crowd, always a good sign.
Solid Midtown Soba/Japanese option
The restaurant seems as if it was open for years and years. Menu has lots of choices and as a person who prefers vegetarian options found good ones here. This is the place where you will see tourists and midtown corporate warriors getting hammered and ordering rounds and rounds of drinks while doing Game of Thrones manipulations. Would come here again.

This was for years one of my secret vices. A restaurant so good and quirky that I felt I had been whisked away to a foreign land. Hand written lists of how many of each soba left so when I arrived and asked for the soba noodle list I was told โnew owner- all noodles made in-houseโ a shudder went through me
Well soba fans, not to worry. Noodles were good if less exotic but the serious change was the yakitori menu. Down to a laminated form with only a couple โdailyโ additions.
The food itself was good. Not memorable but solid. Service was sporadic. We had a private room (available for parties of 5 or more I believe) prices seemed fair (NYC) and the saki list deep and satisfying
Still- hate to say it- another memory fades.
Cold soba better than hot. West Coast โexpertsโ said Cold Soba as good as they have had!
