The pricing may seem intimidating until you experience the level of cuisine. Prompt, courteous and unobtrusive service throughout. A menu with many choices, featuring of course their incredible selection of top shelf USDA steaks and Wagyu beef. The per glass offerings of champagne and wine are limited, but with some consulting with the server, the right selections were made. The best carpaccio (Wagyu) that I have had in the US. The limited inclusions on the plate allow the meat to shine through. Reasonably priced. The sides do NOT come with the steak offerings unless there is something specifically described. The sides are priced and portioned to share, so do ask whether they will do a half portion of a favorite side. Truffle mac and cheese was stellar. So complex. The Szechuan snap peas were a revelation. Such unique flavors. The gorgonzola crusted (10 oz) filet was excellent. The sauce complimented everything incredibly well. The kitchen sears on the more rare-medium/rare side, so accommodate your temperature request with that in mind. A wonderful coconut cake dessert served again as a portion clearly cut for 2 (or leftovers). You will shell out some cash, but the slow food (very European) pacing is just a chance to take in the atmosphere and the food. Highly recommended. Best steak quality I have seen in metro Boston, Groton and Southern New Hampshire.

Weโve had some of the best steaks of all time at this restaurant and some of the worst. Last night, we ordered a $98 prime bone-in rib eye to share - and ordered it medium rare. It came out at least medium well. Chewy, inedible, far far over done. For $98. Our waitress was lovely so we didnโt want to return it, but what a shame! We like to go to this restaurant because their menu is great and itโs a mile from our house โฆ but over and over again the steaks are overcooked. S&W: Youโre a steak restaurant! Get it right!
Be the first to ReplyMore than great food...A Great Staff!
Loved it a ton! I love Smith and Wollensky to begin with but this one is truly awesome! Still great steaks, but this one has two amazing bartenders...Jeremy and Mick! Even though we had a table reservation we decided to eat at the bar because they were just fun! Also, the executive chef was amazing as well...here is why...ordered a S&W salad and someone forgot the dressing. The exec chef was walking by and we told him. He took the salad, delivered it back himself, added more salad to it but that is not all. When we were paying, here again appears the exec. chef to be sure we were happy with our dinner. Great food, great staff (even the friendliest greeter seating us at the desk). As I said, I love S&M but this is the best staff ever!
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing, start to finish
Every part of this experience was terrible. After being seated, it took 20 minutes to just get water. My wife had to go talk to the host so we could get that water. Everything we asked for, had to be repeated multiple times and Iโm talking about the small things like bread for the table of additional water. The meal was worse. I order a T Bone medium and it came burnt and I mean burnt. How was it allowed to be severed is beyond me. The side order of the brussel sprouts were mushy and not worth eating. The manager came over and seemed half hearted in the apology. I even told them this was my 50th birthday dinner. In the end, they did not charge me for my steak, which I never ate to begin with. It took so long to get to this point, I did not even get my meal. We had to leave. Never again will I go to this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyTime to get new management or close the doors!
We gave S&W another chance as we live nearby. The place is unfortunately really badly managed given the very inconsistent food and service quality. Last night, I've had the Wedge Salad and it's been dramatically smaller than usually and in addition totally over dressed with a quarter inch of dressing covering the salad! It is sad to see that historically excellent places can go down that fast because they seem to lack experienced management that is in control, that cares and maintains and continuously improves the customer experience. Sad!
Be the first to ReplySlipping a bit
Been here a few times including some fabulous meals, but last night with friends wasn't up to par. Server spilled water on papers we had on the table, didn't mop it up, didn't apologize, muttered "be careful" (not sure to us or to herself) and moved on. Steak had too much pepper Seared tuna had too much pepper Never got a "how is everything". Everything else (tuna tartare app, crabcake, Wollensky salads) were great. $250 for 4 meals, no drinks is a whole lot to pay for a ton of pepper and indifferent service.
Be the first to ReplyHappy to spend $$$$ but not for thisโฆ
This place is simply overrated. Have been there a few times over the past weeks and the food and especially service was significantly below what you pay for. Some of the staff is also overwhelmed with what it takes to work in such a venue. The steaks and oysters are great but the rest is just OK.
Be the first to ReplyGood Meal And OK Service But Value Lacking
Had a fairly early dinner for two and so the place was fairly lightly populated. Even with that we were seated next to either a service or emergency exit door in a corner of an almost empty large room. Of all the seats! Waiter was attentive enough and the food was very good no doubt. That said the experience was less than the value given the very expensive nature of the restaurant. A restaurant that charges those kind of prices needs to be perfect in every regard. Work to do here.
Be the first to ReplyBad meal despite having a great get together
No stars. Pittsburg NY strip of horrible quality and preparation. No send backs. The mood of us 6 was too good to be detoured by complaint. We could afford the wasted money. Never going back to this Wellesley S and W. Advice, go to the Bancroft, Black and Blue, Capital Grill or Mortons. For that matter TGI Friday would have been better than the food at Smith and Wollensky Wellesley
Be the first to ReplyNot worth the cost but good steak
The restaurant is very expensive but the service did not match up. There were very long gaps between the times when our server came to the table. It took ages to get a drink and also when another drink was ordered it took a long time and the drink was incorrect.
We sat at a high top and there is barely room to walk between the chairs backing and facing the bar. The walk to the restrooms is also hugely crowded with furniture and โstuffโ making it feel like one is walking through a storage room. This really detracts from the ambience.
The steaks were very good as was the asparagus with Hollandaise and the Brussels sprouts. The Wollensky salad appeared to lack croutons or marinated mushrooms. The wine is very expensive. The โcrispyโ Yukon gold potatoes were far from crispy - soft like boiled potatoes
Overall it it not worth the enormous expense but the steaks are good.
Very good (but VERY expensive)
Family celebration last night so S&W it was. You can't get beef for under $52, but they do have 3 fish options. They were even out of a few of the VERY expensive Waygu options.
We ended up sharing a few salads and apps and sides, and filled ourselves with very tasty food for under $70 each, including tax/tip but not beverages. Desserts actually are reasonable.
Crab/lobster cake and the tuna app were extraordinary. Salads are huge but not exciting. Service was excellent
Good local steak option
I'll preface this by saying that we are not normally S&W fans. Our preference is usually the Capital Grill, Ruth's Chris, Mortons. However, this S&W location is less than 10 minutes from our house. And, we hesitated coming to this location based on the not-so-great experiences we had a the downtown Boston location.
Fast forward to COVID and our desire to only eat out doors. S&W in Wellesley offers roughly 15 tables for outdoor seating, which is probably the most outdoor seating of any local restaurant. We've now been to this location about a 1/2 dozen times now and we will definitely be back.
Pros: decent/good waitstaff; our food and overall experience has been better than the downtown Boston location; outdoor table options; indoor bar; yummy chocolate chip cookie option for dessert and good cheesecake; solid wedge salad; decent steaks
Cons: food is a bit overpriced for what you get and not as good quality as other well-known steakhouses; French fries are lackluster (please get a new vendor/distributor for those or cook them differently); 1 time when we went the waitress told the table next to us that if they wanted dessert they'd have to take it with them as she needed her "table back" - there was a 90-minute table policy but the service that day was VERY VERY slow so it was not the patron's fault!
Not what I expected
One meal was brought out and when we asked about the rest of the party they said there was a mix up in the kitchen. We sent the one meal back to be served with the missing meals. Two of the steaks had to be sent back because they were very red which was not the wy we ordered them. (medium plus). While the waiter was very good we were greatly disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food and service but not worth the $300 for two people
The service was excellent, food was very good, plating could do better. For the price, the ambiance could have been better. Table was plain, would not go back.
Be the first to ReplySadly inconsistent
We'd love to love this restaurant! We live nearby and go occasionally. Sometimes, the food is scrumptious .. and other times it's just not. So inconsistent! Last night, the spinach greek salad was so tasty .. light, flavorful, fresh! But other times, I've had the Wollensky salad and it's been dramatically over dressed .. dripping, drenched! :(. Another example ... a few weeks ago, we enjoyed the porterhouse steak to share ... one of the best steaks ever, perfectly seasoned and cooked, accompanied by well-seasoned and perfectly roasted veggies. Yum! Couldn't wait to enjoy it again! Last night, ordered the same item. The steak was under-seasoned and under cooked .. so plain! ... and the veggies on the side were also under seasoned and blandly steamed. Sad. At this level, S&W must deliver quality every time .. not every other time!
Be the first to ReplyA $300 disappointment!
A $300 disappointment!
I was very dissatisfied with both service and quality of food and will not return anytime soon.
I love the attentive service
I love the attentive service you get at S&W. Theyโve created a cozy outdoor dining area in the back with plenty of heaters to stay warm. Our steaks were perfectly cooked. The tater tots side had a delicious sauce with Parmesan.
Be the first to ReplyDine Out Boston success!
Dine out Boston (fixed price meals) started this weekend and our last meal before the pandemic was at S&W (we were one of only 2 parties in the main restaurant that night) back in March and enjoyed our meal then.
Returned last night knowing they had outside tables as we are not ready to eat inside just yet. Had the same waiter we had back in March which was fun. Table was outside on the sidewalk up against the building which was good because the awning protected us from the light rain. Our waiter got wetter than we did but didn't seem to mind and provided excellent service.
I started with the grilled bacon appetizer (delish!) and she had the fried lobster (a little too fried, but tasty). I had the "strip tease" entree (4 decent sized slices of steak with 3 large truffled 'tots', she had the salmon (so good). No room for dessert so those went right into the doggy bag, along with most of the bread and some of the salmon. $38 each is a steal for the quantity and quality of the food, and for my first non-burger red meat in 5 months!
