Great food (COLD NOODLES!!!) Great Service (Speak Chinese) and great ambiance (warm lights and cool interior)

My parents thought the pepper eggplant was too spicy, but delicious. I called and asked if they could make it without spice. They were very helpful, suggested no sauce, but wouldn't recommend it. I appreciate the honesty.

Very good food!! I was in the area and wanted some good food and Sichuan Impression was recommend to me. I would definitely go during non-peak time because it is a small restaurant and it gets very busy. Alternatively, I believe you can also check in via the Yelp app. There are also some other places around that you can wait for your table. There is parking lot, but plenty of street parking, so that was an added bonus. I tried a few items: 1. Eggplant - I misread and did not realize that it was a cold appetizer. Very good flavor, but I wished it was hot. 2. Fish in picked veggies - My favorite of the night. The fish was so tender, the mala was spicy. It was perfect 3. String beans - Very good flavor and perfectly cooked 4. Pork ribs - Also super good, the meat was falling off the bone. The food was sooo good! I am definitely coming back here to try other dishes. The service was also great. The waiter came by and refilled our water and I never felt pressured to leave even thought it was pretty packed when I was leaving. Will definitely need to come back.

Be the first to ReplySince my original review, I've ordered delivery at least
Since my original review, I've ordered delivery at least another dozen or so times. The improvement and efforts are to be commended. If I place two orders of kung pao chicken, I no longer have to worry that I get half the flavor. I hope this trend continues. When I place multiple orders of to-go rice, they no longer jam multiple orders in one container, they keep the container to two orders maximum. They also don't fill it up all the way to prevent excess moisture. Unfortunately, the rice is still clumpy and mushy. I think the travel distance is just too far. If you are in a position to desire delivery instead of driving to pick up, it's probably already too far to expect the rice to survive the trip without becoming mushy. My solution was just to purchase a rice cooker. I got a Zojirushi NW-QAC10 and used Tamanishiki rice. The rice paired perfectly with the kung pao chicken and boiled fish filet with chili sauce. The rice cooker turned out to be a game changer as I discovered I avoided many Asian restaurants due to their inconsistent rice--President Thai is another example. I can now confidently give all of these places another shot as well. Without having to worry about mushy rice, I can happily revise the score here to 5/5.
Be the first to ReplyBeautifully arranged with that good ambient lighting.
Diverse customers, family friendly. Order from the QR code menu. Staff attentive and regularly observing to help customers. Food came out at warp speed. Steamed ribs with rice flour was interesting, felt like a stew base with tender small ribs surrounded by the gravy and some pieces of orange potato. Kung pao had great flavor, a nice sticky sauce. Tons of chili pieces but not a lot of heat unless you request otherwise. Braised string beans standard as expected. Chili fish was great but on the salty side. Normally intended to eat with rice but we didn't order any. You can order spicier if you prefer. The standard level of spice was more moderate here. Restaurant has a clean modern elegant appeal. Food is beautifully plated and tasty.

The food is special and yummy! It is the first time I tried the sliced kidney with pepper and chili, not super spicy but just the right spicy. Very special taste. I did enjoy it. The staff are warm and respectful.
Be the first to ReplyAll the dishes we ordered were delightful! The Fish in
All the dishes we ordered were delightful! The Fish in Rattan Pepper provided a mild numbing sensation without being spicy, and the fish itself was tender and impeccably cooked. The Mapo Tofu was a timeless favorite. Although the Twice Cooked Pork had excellent flavor, the slices of pork were slightly overcooked. The String Beans were a tried-and-true classic. The Bean Jelly noodle had the perfect texture. The Shrimp with scrambled eggs was expertly prepared and had a delightful taste. However, the most disappointing dish was the Impressive Spicy Chicken, as it consisted mostly of bones and didn't justify its price or the effort required to eat it. Nevertheless, the sauce accompanying it was exceptionally flavorful--I even drizzled it over my fish! The service was excellent, came around and checked on us just the right amount of times. They packed in impressive decor into this modest space. There's probably less than 20 tables and there was a slight wait at 2pm on a rainy Saturday but dishes come out quickly so you shouldn't be waiting for a table for too long.
Be the first to ReplyFood quality-wise, i can tell how this reataurant has been
Food quality-wise, i can tell how this reataurant has been surviving for really a long time. Since my little sons cannot eat spicy food, I tried to find non-spicy food and ordered. Lamb skew: i am picky with lamb and this dish was really good. No strong smell, not too chewy, properly seasoned. Kungpao chicken: not spicy version i think. Sauce flavor is just properly sweet, chicken is tender, nuts are also properly cooked. Radish and beef soup: this would be very healthy. Ox tail might be cooked inside for a long time(asian way) and i can taste the deep flavor. Potato slice dish(forgot the name): although it was not my sons' favorite, i think it is tasty enough. Nothing really special to describe. Price: 4 dishes total 91$ including 18% tips. INCLUDING TIPS........ can you not show me a screen with minimum 18% tip while it is a takeout order....? Customized 0 tip right in front of staff when they are looking at me is really tricky.
Be the first to ReplyWe were craving Sichuan Chinese and my husband's coworker
We were craving Sichuan Chinese and my husband's coworker recommended that we try this spot. So one night he decided to take a detour and pickup dinner from their Alhambra location. It was worth the drive! We loved the toothpick mutton and the twice cooked pork belly with leeks. The latter is actually my favorite Sichuan dish. Their rendition is excellent and reminded me of our favorite Sichuan restaurant in Westchester in NY. I just wish they were closer..
Be the first to ReplyThe food was really flavorful.
Inwas expecting a lot more heat from the food but everything still has a nice kick. Inthink you should just ask for extra spicy if you want it with more heat. But overall everything was flavorful. Plus we didn't have to wait long at all. We were sat almost immediately
Be the first to ReplyCame here with a group of friends, very busy Sat night .
Tasty and very spicy. More like numbing spice .We ordered a lot of food. The crab , fish, beef slices and dessert is great.
Be the first to ReplyWorth the mich they mentioned on the menu.
I used to think that ma la (szechuan pepper corn) stir fry is the art itself on a dry hotpot (hot pot cooked without the soup). Boy, i was wrong. This place has educated me that spicy is not just the main flavor of a true dry hot pot. Are they not spicy, you ask? No no no, not at all, they ARE spicy. But there's a lot of nuances and depth in flavor hidden inside the stir fry. There must be some kind of magic. The marriage, yes, marriage, of the ingredients is just immaculate. How is it possible that a strong spice hot stir fry can have a deep and notable shrimp flavor? How can the strong shrimp head also carries the fragrant spices intermingling with chili? And everything tastes spicy without branding your tongue with coal?If you order the spicy fried shrimp dry hotpot, do NOT throw away the shells. Try taking one shrimp and immediately bite it's head off. And unlock the spices within. I promise you, it won't deter you with the usual fishy-ness of usual shrimp head. It's just nice, deep, spicy shrimp flavor with rich spices. This is the dish for you to say: yeah i bite heads off for lunch!

Price is highBut dishes are nice, I'll order to go, otherwise any 2 dishes will bleed your pocket easily for $20 as tip First best dish is the crab stir fryThey don't have much soup choice, 2 only. A tofu with single vege cost $18Lamb on toothpick is getting sloppy, they now serve lam cubes mix with lots of tiny broken meat and no more toothpicks... of course, the tiny broken meat can not be hold on toothpicks not worth the price
Be the first to ReplyAs a Sichuanese person, Sichuan Impression was at the top
As a Sichuanese person, Sichuan Impression was at the top of my list to visit when in LA. Fortunately it was walkable from my friend's place in Alhambra. As for the dish I order to judge all Sichuanese restaurants, it has to be the 'Boiled Fish Fillets in Chili Sauce' (or shuizhuyu). That came out pretty quick and it was good. They provide a healthy amount of fish, I felt like I was grabbing and eating, and there was just more of it left! Definitely one of the better protein-to-veggie ratio boiled fishes I've had! Personally, I prefer bean sprouts over Napa cabbage but to each their own. I will say they 'watered' down the spice levels of this compared to other places and I didn't see ANY peppercorns in the dish. I would have expected this in a more Americanized Sichuan restaurant, but for it to be missing in one of the two Sichuanese empires in LA? Kind of shocking. Without those peppercorns, you miss out on the 'mala' (numbing) that Sichuanese food is famous for.Service-wise I think it was fine. I did have to ask for a bowl of rice, which is absolutely necessary when eating shuizhuyu, surprised I didn't get that before the fish.Personally, I'd rather go to Xiang La Hui, which I passed by on the way here. They have the most fragrant boiled fish because they pour the oil tableside and it causes you to salivate instantly.

I've been coming here for years and just tried their new location. Food is just as incredible as ever but the new location is a huge step up, way more comfortable dining experience. Impressive Noodles, Sliced Pork and Rattan fish are exciting and flavorful. Really everything here is awesome. Quick and friendly service. Will keep coming back as long as it exists.

Love all the dishes we had: sit fry spicy chicken (it's more deep fried), pork feet and fish. They're really spicy and numbing. The waiter and waitress were friendly and helpful. They even helped us put food in the containers, which doesn't happen much in restaurants nowadays.
Be the first to ReplyJust another hole in the wall chinese restaurant in SGV you
Just another hole in the wall chinese restaurant in SGV you say? No way, feels like you are in Chengdhu without the panda ice cream bars and old guys sitting around with birds and playing with their metal balls. The taste is right out of sichuan; pepper corn mabo tofu stings the tongue, kung Pao Chicken has a strong "Pow", and veggies are excellent. If you want the taste of western china at the cost of Alhambra, definitely recommended.

.. food is really good ... the best part was that it was very affordable
Be the first to ReplyI don't normally do reviews but my experience here was so
I don't normally do reviews but my experience here was so bad that I had to let others know. I had always wanted to try this place but their old location was a little far from me. Once I found out that they moved to a new location that was closer, I knew I had to pay them a visit.Came for lunch with a party of two and the restaurant was 1/3 full. Was originally going to be seated at a booth table that can fit four people, but the main server, or at least the server that acted like he was in charge of the whole dining room, directed us to a two top. Knowing that I usually order quite a bit of food, especially when trying a new place, I asked for the original table in which the server replied that they are busy and I have to take the two top. Looking around, there were numerous other parties of two sitting at 4 top booth tables and 4 more empty 4 tops. Reluctantly, we sat at the rather small two top. Same server pointed to the QR code on the table and said I can look at the menu and order through my phone and walked away. While waiting for our food, the next party to arrive was a party of two and guess what? They asked and were seated at a 4 top by the same server. Food arrived after a bit of wait. We ordered fried intestines, cumin lamb, a garlic veggie dish, and a fish dish. We barely had room for our plates and bowls as the dishes took up our entire table. The food was good but nothing spectacular. While eating another party of two came in and they were seated at a four top. So there must have been something wrong with me that the server insisted on my sitting at a ridiculously small two top. The manager was walking around touching tables, even stopped to chat with the table next to us and offered them some wine to try. Yet she skipped our table and didn't give me a chance to let her know of my experience. She was more interested in catering to a social media influencer that was taking pictures of their food. We had to flag down the server for a missing bowl of rice that we had ordered and he was seen walking around refilling water cups but he avoided our table so my cup was empty. The table next to us took their food to go so he packed up their food for them and bagged it up. When it was our turn to take our leftovers home, we flagged him down and then he dropped off the containers for us to fill and walked away. I even had to ask for a bag. Overall the food was good, and that's why I'm giving them 2 stars, but not good enough to over come the complete lack of customer service. Although I'm Chinese, it may look like I'm not straight from mainland China so I was given subpar service as all the other patrons spoke in Mandarin. In summary, I'd say skip this place are there are better places for Sichuan food without the higher prices and the snobby attitude.
Be the first to ReplySome of the best Sichuan food I have had.
I had read about this place and how it was ranked one of the best Asian restaurants in Alhambra. So I defiantly needed to check it out when I was in the area. So glad I did!!! We ordered a few different things but my favorite was definitely the Tea Smoked Ribs they were so tasty and delicious. I will also say I was blown away by a vegetable dish which is probably a first for me. The tawainese lettuce is a must it pairs so well with their meat dishes. We also order the wontons in chili oil and these were soooo good. Lastly the Kung pao chicken her was one of the best I have had. I am definitely coming back again and next time I will make sure to try the tooth pick lamb which also sounded like a delicious dish. I would reckoned this place if you are looking for good food in generally but especially if you like Sichuan cuisine.
Be the first to ReplyCame here on Friday evening and there was no wait.
There is outdoor seating as well as indoor seating. We opted for indoor seating. Came here especially to get the tea smoked pork ribs. Also ordered a spicy boiled fish. The tea smoked pork ribs reminds me of smoked duck; it is probably prepared/marinated the same way. It was smoky and was tender, but it was lacking a little salt and spice. We asked for some chili oil to eat with the pork ribs and it did make it a tad better. Overall, it was pretty good. The spicy boiled fish does not taste like any that I've had before. It was not numbing or spicy enough. There also wasn't enough veggies on the bottom. There was a little bit of Napa cabbage and some bean sprouts only. There were lots of fish though.
Be the first to ReplySichuan Impression was my first experience with authentic
Sichuan Impression was my first experience with authentic Sichuan styled Chinese food. I found the flavors unique and amazing. The numbing sensation was a new experience as well, which could get pretty intense if you actually eat a bunch of peppercorns. I enjoyed every dish I had. The Pig Trotters were amazing in flavor and texture, both slightly fried on the outside and gelatinous on the inside with a mild kick. Both kidney dishes were particularly good and were very clean tasting. The cold noodles were much better than expected. In fact all the cold dishes are very good, which was a different experience for me, the way cold meat dishes are prepared was different for my palate, but I keep going back to them since.Their fried intestines are the best I've had, <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fhard.to&s=3dff8a8880f19f02f97bd250eb853c38da1913abbced427e1c715ba3a1e2278f" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">hard.to</a> resist them when I go.Also cheap and delicious steamed rice!Overall very delicious and authentic food with lots of options. I have frequented here a handful of times when visiting LA and hope to be back again.
