While the food was very good, the service we received was not. My friends & I came in looking for a nice lunch & drinks. When getting seated they grabbed us a drink menu then looked back at us & put it back. Upon being seated we asked for a drink menu. We were then told that the manager thinks we look way too young & needed to check our IDs before even giving us the menu. We are 23 so I totally understand needed IDs to be checked but the way it was dealt with made us very uncomfortable. We felt very judged, were constantly being stared at, & were unable to even enjoy our meal & drinks after. I have never been treated this way at a restaurant before. Usually you get a drink menu, order the drink, & then they check your IDs; not make a whole production out of it. It was very unprofessional & uncomfortable.

This restaurant is a few blocks from the Met and well worth the steps. High quality plates with attentive service. This was some of the best Italian food I've had in New York.

Everything you order is excellent I have eaten at Sant Ambroeus for over thirty years once a week. I never had any issues with the food except praise for outstanding quality cooked with finesse done by experts with pride in the one of the finest Italian restaurants. Light and delightful classic Italian cuisine cooked to perfection to nourish and leave you with a smile even though its cost is expensive but worth it. Go and enjoy the wonderful food and enjoy the glamorous UES chic crowd.

To cut a long story short, we fell in love with Spaghetti Aglio, Olio e Peperoncino. The olive oil was distinctly infused with garlic flavor that permeated into every strand of spaghetti- then there was just the right savory of saltiness. Every forkful was a moment of bliss. I was grateful to have a daughter who was just as happy to share her dish, and equally eager to try mine. I got the Lasagna Verde. It was bountiful and fulfilling, but that Spaghetti Aglio was on a different level. To finish off, the Millefoglie was a good choice. The cream was divine, but the layers of puff pastry was a bit tricky to tackle. But still, so scrumptious! Lastly, applause to such well trained wait staff. From the maitre d, to our main server and the back waiter. Just like the vibe of Sant Ambroeus, they seemed to carry a subtle whiff of elegance.

Good food was always, good vibes also, but sometimes when it gets too crowded, service was downgraded, Got some bad attitude from the front desk when we arrived on a weekly and brunch time. But will come back for the food, coffee also pretty good.

Ordered their cacio e pepe and it was delicious! The servers were kind and the overall atmosphere inside was beautiful. I would recommend visiting if you're in the UES looking for an Italian spot
Be the first to ReplyWent for brunch, Jan 21.
We hoped that 2:30 would be late enough to thin out the crowd, but the place was packed and noisy. They added a chair to a cozy table for two to make an even "cozier" table for three. My seat was stuck in the walkway, but it was ok. My chair was not bumped into at all during our meal. The service is refined but a bit overwhelmed by how busy they are. I might consider going back for dinner some time, just to see what the pace is like at a later, more refined hour. But even as frenetic as the brunch hour was, the service rose above it all. The let-down was the food. Our guest's lasagne was ok but nothing to go back for. My wife's spaghetti was cooked perfectly but the marinara was boring. It begged for flavor. My omelet's ingredients were sparse. I expected the mozzarella to be hot, melty and stringy. But if it was there at all, it was well-disguised in the eggs. Overall, the quaint ambience and sparkly service made the meal. And while our food was a bit of a let down, it wasn't bad. It just wasn't great. But I would certainly give them a try for dinner.
Be the first to ReplyThis is one of the see and be seen Restaurants in New York
This is one of the see and be seen Restaurants in New York City. It's been around for many years with an Italian influence. It has the most amazing visual and tasty desserts you've ever had. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and I believe brunch on the weekends. Everything is made there. The ambience is beautiful. The food is delicious and visually prepared perfectly. and I must say the coffee is the best I've ever had. Be prepared to pay because this restaurant is very expensive. Definitely $$$$. but everything you put in your mouth will make your tongue dance! The outside tables are enclosed like a little square igloo they're warm and you get blankets and it's really quite wonderful. I think a great place to be on a snowy day. Of course, it's always bustling with old money New Yorkers, and young adults that have literally grown up on their food. You can also see lots of celebrities often dining there. Like Bobby De Niro, Mick Jagger, and Al Pacino. The one thing I love is, it has real New Yorkers regularly coming in to eat good food in a beautiful atmosphere . If you are visiting New York, this is a place you must try!!!. If you can't get in, you can definitely sit at the coffee bar.

We made reservations for this restaurant to find out that this restaurant says is its Italian restaurant but when we arrived it was more French than Italian, we ordered a fish dinner served row. We sent it back and my sister orders something else my wife ordered a pizza it was a thin very thin pizza taste it nasty. We returned the pizza back and did not order anything else my wife was unhappy with the place. and the food. Also, we ordered calamari, and when they brought the order over it was fried asparagus with clam cake batter, not happy at all with this the servers we're very rude and obnoxious yeah they kept trying to get my sister and my wife to leave the table so they can serve other customers when we went to get our coats they also gave us other people's coats not ours then they ask us what type of costs that we have this was a miserable place to visit I do not recommend no one to go to this location if you decide to go to this location I prefer you to go to pizza hut. We also ordered a bottle of wine for $81, and it tastes so dry you couldn't even drink that but we force it down for $81 which you expect for this place I mean it should have been a good tasting wine to begin with everything set and done this was a lousy restaurant to visit never again and i do not recommend anyone to go to this location. I spent $364 to have a bad experience in my life at it will all be experience that everyone in the world has we tend to go out to have dinner to a place that we can remember and enjoy with our friends and family what a mistake it was for me to locate this restaurant on the website, and I'm lost for words.
Be the first to ReplyHere's the thing.
This place is pricey but given its location that is to be expected. The cappuccinos are perfection. And somehow the water is even better here. You can't beat their espresso martinis. And the crowd is always great people watching. Be sure to grab a matchbook on your way out.
Be the first to ReplyMy most favorite coffee in NYC! I have tried a ton of them.
This place has an incredible vibe and the service is spot on. I feel like I've been transported to a café in Italy. Their latte is fantastic!
Be the first to ReplyIncredibly mediocre food for ridiculous prices.
Definitely would not recommend for breakfast. My kid got a prosciutto and Swiss sandwich on a roll the size of a Hawaiian roll which was good, but was $13. I got scrambled eggs (so runny it was almost gross and completely untouched by any kind of seasoning), bacon (pretty disgusting, barely tasted like bacon and was clearly sitting there already cooked), potatoes were greasy and not seasoned, and toast (the only thing that was pretty good) .... for $26. The service is almost laughably bad. The guy never came back to ask if everything was ok and I had to ask a busser for salt and pepper for the eggs. The pastries were just ok. Ambiance is cute but definitely not worth these prices. Been sitting here finished with no plates on the table for 10 minutes and just had to go to the hostess to ask for the check because the server is nowhere to be found. Definitely would not recommend.

In my entire life have I ever felt offended and discriminated by a hostess. Until now. We wanted to have coffee and pastries. The waitress told us she was going to clear a table in the front of the café. Then she seated us outside because according to her she could no longer seat us at the table upfront. According to her the server was not going to be able to serve us there. Much to our surprise we noticed that she seated a few people who came AFTER us (with the same number of persons as we were) where she said she was going to seat us at first. What a disappointment for what was supposed to be a nice afternoon experience. Will not ever return to this place!
Be the first to ReplyPretentious little coffee spot with little extra to offer.
... came in with a friend for a nice afternoon break... staff had an attitude from the start... annoyed with 2 orders on the same card, gave me an eat-in coffee in a paper cup (while giving my colleague a nice ceramic cup and saucer), and the place is tiny with little separation from other patrons. Nothing special.
Be the first to ReplyCookies are incredible.
Try any of them for a wonderful treat. The coffee was incredible. The service - well it didn't match the cookies and coffee.

How does a bistro get better? Keep doing the little things and adding to what works - which is the magic of SA! Look at this mouthwatering BLT panini below with a beautiful side salad of colorful lettuces. Dressing was perfectly light too. Want some bread to start? You'll get a delicious multigrain with a spicy olive oil dip ( yes you don't need to ask for it). Want plant based? SA has three options on the menu which is new since my last visit. Service was pleasant and quick and again we sat outside in cozy private booths. Love the individual heaters and blankets. My only fault is they did not inform my daughter of the change for ordering still water ( I was inside washing my hands). Overall, love this gem in SoHo. Enjoy!
Be the first to ReplyI have come to this restaurant for 9 years.
The service was poor ! I had to ask for menu etc. then I ordered a glass of wine . No one asked if I liked they brought my pasta no Parmesan had to ask three times for salt. As I was eating my dinner the staff carried on inappropriate conversations talking across the bar ! So disappointed as this has been my staple as a frequent guest of Carlyle .... Unacceptable

Love the service when it's not busy, I go here almost every morning for coffee since I work on Madison, it's convenient for my location. The food is regular not mediocre, it's okay if you're trying to have a cute breakfast or a quick meal that has aesthetic. The taste is basic and so is the selection. It's nothing fancy as the setting is, but the pastries are great & filled with so much sugar so if that's your thing, skip to the pastry counter. It's a 7/10 for me because the price is high for things that come out of packaging, but I'll still a go to neighborhood spot for all the locals and a must try pastry wise for the vacationers.

Mrs. Paoli (RIP) has a son who is rude to customers sometimes but besides that the service is great and the food is great. Consistently good overall.
Be the first to ReplyService was great and the food was delicious.
We had bagel and lox for brunch and an omelette. It was all very fresh. I have recommended this restaurant to friends and they loved it. A bit pricy though.
Be the first to ReplyGreat, straightforward meal.
Was surprised by how much I enjoyed the bolognese--it felt homemade in the best way. Dining room was gorgeous as well.

I've had better cooked eggs and potatoes at local diner, plus there Hugh difference in pricing. Coffee was so so,Possibly someone forgot to change the filter. In any case if you want good breakfast with coffee go to your local diner in nyc
Be the first to ReplyI had a terrible time experience.
I work in the area. I walked in for lunch and was told that I would be seated shortly. Two White ladies walked in after me and were seated before me. I had to remind the host that I had been waiting. They led me to my seat and provided no menu for 10min. Two White ladies seated after me were provided menus first and their order was taken first, minutes after they sat down. I was left at the table with no service. I finally got up and left. I think they are racist.
Be the first to ReplyFine dining for sure.
If you're a group of 4 or less then it'll be the perfect spot for a dinner and some wine. I visited Sant Ambroeus for the dessert & drinks and I was very content. The service was incredible, the house Prosecco was to die for and the dessert tray had such a delicious variety! Going back asap
