Excellent food and very friendly service.
No English on menus and the owner and son, who is the chef on weekends, helped us with recommendations and service.

Be the first to ReplyFantastic hidden gem! The staff was warm and welcoming.
The meals we excellent. Fresh and authentic! Scampi, linguini clams, gnocci, veal...The only challenge was the menu was not in English - thank goodness for all those years of French in college!
Be the first to ReplyGreat little restaurant.
The Italian staff speak 4 or 5 different languages and really make you feel at home. It was quiet, surprisingly, but they are slightly off the beaten track. I don't recall the menu being in anything other than Italian and Flemish but I managed to figure it out. Apart from pizzas, one of the house specialities was scampi, served in several different ways. But there is an extensive menu, where everyone would find something they liked. After a starter of shrimp croquettes, I'm afraid I went for the scampi cooked in butter and garlic, despite the inevitable consequences for my subsequent business meeting. Everything was delicious and the portions just the right size. Ironically, the bit they did have trouble understanding was which type of coffee I wanted, as I only knew the French names, not the Italian, but we sorted it out.
Be the first to ReplyGreat find down a back alley in Ghent.
The wine white was very poor but the red wine was excellent. We started with the caprice, which was very well put together. The tomatoes were perfectly ripened, the mozzarella was firm and the balsamic was just enough so it wasn't too sweet. We devoured it. We split a proccutto pizza that was one of the best we have ever had. The flavors blended so well together and the crust was baked exactly to our liking. Thin and crispy. We will come back.

Delicious! We were seated right away, the service was good (the waiter didn't speak English but was very patient as we mimed and pointed and so did he), and the food was fantastic. The pizza was very light and fresh, and the house-made tagiatelle was absolutely fabulous. It was made with asparagus, zucchini, and scampi, and they all just melted in your mouth. I definitely recommend it!

Simply OUTSTANDING!We found this gem while strolling around Gent yesterday. We ate around 3pm, the place was empty. We had a party of 5 celebrating my wife's birthday. The service was great the food was spectacular and the little touches made the whole dining experience memorable. They stared us out with a brochette appetizer. We also ordered a plate of Calamari. Both dishes were very tasty.I had the spaghetti frutti di mare (fruit of the sea). It was loaded with fresh seafood and the pasta was great. I have had this dish several times over the last 20 years and this was the best by far. the chef came out twice to see how we were doing. All of our meals were great. We also had 2 bottles of wine and both were worth it.Our meal ended with a complimentary shot of Amaretto and a small dessert. They placed a sparkler in my wife's dessert. The extra touches made this a most memorable meal.I don't know when or if I will ever get back to Gent but if I do I know where we will be dining!
Be the first to ReplyMy friends and I arrived in Gent around 10pm and my friends
My friends and I arrived in Gent around 10pm and my friends wanted to just skip dinner or get something in the hotel, but after touring Europe for a week by car and eating too many meals off schedule and with fast food, I felt like having a good dinner. Walking around the old town of Gent I quickly learned two things: it is a very nice safe city where everyone feels safe to walk around along at night, but most of the restaurants close their kitchens by 10pm. Well, San Marco was soon to close too, but still had a lot of people dining and talking, so the lady at the front desk said they could still serve me dinner and was very welcoming. The service was great as was the atmosphere. I ordered a fish filet with yellow curry sauce and pasta which was fantastic. It also included some mussels, shrimp, etc. The pasta was really good too and I tried a bottle of one of the local beers. Before the entree came out they brought a complimentary tasty appetizer with soft cheese and tomato, and afterward a complimentary shot of liqueur, I think Amaretto, with a hint of cherry. It was one of those great meals that left me in a really good mood and glad I tried this restaurant.
