Rule of Thirds Reviews from The Last Year
Overall we had a very pleasant experience.
Certain things were amazing and others were just okay. Atmosphere: we (2people) did not have a reservation on a Thursday night but were still able to grab a seat at the bar (at 7:45pm). The outside is stylized in a traditionally Japanese sense. The inside aesthetic is a mix of American modern x Japanese. This is a great place for a date night! Service: the bartender was very attentive to us! We even forgot one of our bags at the bar as we were walking out and he ran out to give it to us. Food: the food was good but not amazing. We ordered the chicken meatball, hangar steak, tuna sashimi, hot honey gem salad, ribs, and cucumbers. The ribs and chicken meatball were amazing! So full of flavor. And the ribs practically fell off of the bone. The steak, tuna, and cucumbers were okay but didn't blow me away. The salad was on the sweeter side, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but the dressing was definitely missing something. It lacked depth. Rule of Thirds is worth visiting but is maybe a little overpriced for what it is. That being said, I will be back.

I've heard about this place for a while and finally got to try! We went there for dinner during the week of July 4th and had a lovely dining experience at this beautiful restaurant. 1. Tuna & Nori (5/5) - delightful little dish! Crunch tuna that pairs well with seaweed. I enjoyed every bite. Highly recommend it as an appetizer. 2. Chicken Meatball Skewer (4/5) - it tasted great but not surprising. only one piece is served on a stick. 3. Cold noodle with crabmeat (4/5) - this was one of the today's special menus. This was something I've never had. Combination was unique and it was very refreshing with tomato and crab meat. Compared to typical Japanese soba, you may find it a bit blend. 4. Yanki Onigiri (3/5) - I wouldn't recommend getting this. The onigiri had nothing inside and tasted a bit too oily. It was a bit hard to eat (the rice was scattered), since it was not sturdy like a typical onigiri. Maybe they used too much butter or oil? 5. Tonkatsu (6/5) - the BEST Tonkatsu I've ever had in NY so far. The meat was pretty thin, but I love how it was crispy and had so much flavor. I thought the portion was generous. 6. Highball (4/5) - it was too strong for me but my husband liked it. 7. Rice cooker cheesecake (5/5) - castella-style cheesecake with strawberry flavored pop sprinkles on side. It was really soft, creamy, and delicious. I liked how I would give 6/5 if it came a bit colder (felt little warm for cheesecake) I feel like they have more options for lunch and will definitely come back to try different dishes! *Staffs were welcoming and friendly *Street parking available *Outdoor tables available (nice and spacious) *Suitable for both small and large groups

I'll start by saying that the actual layout of the restaurant is fascinating. The outdoor seating is so traditional in appearance and a surprise for the area. The inside decor is also fairly interesting. The servers were so delightful. Started with the karaage. Well made fried chicken with a nice bite. Solid portion. Next was the smashed potato with the poached egg- this was fine and could probably be skipped. Final appetizer was the tuna & nori, which we felt like we had to get given the reviews. It was aesthetically pleasing but really flavor-wise didn't add much to the meal. For mains, we got two rice bowls: gyu-don and kakuni. I'm always down for pork belly and the texture overall, especially the rice, of this dish was great. It should come with a poached egg without asking, though, as this is a must. A real surprise was the skate wing sando. It's simple enough but was a nice portion with a great crunch. We did get the pancake because everyone says you have to. We were fairly warned that this would take a while, which is fine. However, when we were done with the rest of the food the servers asked if we wanted anything else as if to say the meal was over-i.e. the pancake had been forgotten. In the end, it was a good pancake. I wasn't expecting it to have a creamy filling, which was interesting but worked well in terms of the buttery profile. The pancake itself was a fine texture. Not sure if it's totally worth SUCH hype. The cocktail menu is pretty inspired and has some really interesting choices.

We came because they're known for their pancakes but tbh I thought the pancakes was mid. It was a little burnt and it took 30 mins for them to get the pancake to us. The best food was the pork belly rice bowl and sandwich! The mustard was a great compliment to the chicken and bread. Def not worth it for the pancakes but the rest of the food options were really good. I like the outdoor space very vibey and gave off bohemian vibes. Price point was pretty standard. More on the pricier side but still affordable.
I went to rule of thirds for dinner this week.
I had been there once before for lunch. Once again, it was fantastic. Everything was excellent. And the atmosphere is great. The hangar steak appetizer was excellent. And the clams were spectacular. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Ambience and the server/bartenders are quick kind.
My meal was running late and the bartender made up for it. Drinks were good and the food special was great. The vibe were stellar

My husband and I went for a date night and were thoroughly impressed with the entire evening. Our server, Steven, had the best recommendations, did not once steer us wrong on food nor drink, and he was attentive throughout the night. The food and drinks were of high quality; thoughtful touches and an array of flavors in every bite. Our favorite dishes were the Skate Wing, the Tuna Sashimi, and the Steak skewer, we were also surprised by how good the macaroni salad with crab was! Looking forward to returning with a group to open up the order to more tasty bites!

The food was decent, but in my opinion nothing special and definitely not worth the price. The restaurant itself is well decorated and the ambiance is nice, but there is nothing on the menu that I would come back for. The souffle pancake is nice to try once, but I think the sponge cakes from Chinese bakeries are better. I've also tried the Japanese breakfast set, smashed potatoes, and the katsu sando, and I would again say that they are all decent but nothing special. The matcha latte is also not the best, especially considering the other matcha places around the area.

I've been wanting to try this place because of the hype and I got to say it definitely lived up to it. The pancakes were the star of the show and were super fluffy and not too sweet. Also the fluffy center with the crusted side made it the perfect pancake. The portion was surprisingly pretty big so it can feed up to 2 people. Also, I got the gyudon which at first glance it looks like a regular gyudon. I have this say this gyudon was super flavorful and juicy. The rice was soaked with beef fat and juice giving it a umami taste. This was one of the best gyudon I've had in nyc. I would say the only downside was that this place is usually very packed esp on the weekends and hard to get a table without an rsvp. Also, the food is priced a bit more on expensive side.
Pretty good overall but did not blow my mind.
The egg sando had a very good silky texture that I enjoyed a lot and is different from other places. The hyped pancake was good but not my preferred style - more cakey than pancakey. There's so much outdoor seating and it's very cute so a good place for a group I think. Kind of expensive for what it is but good.

The service is great here! The sake sommelier is very knowledgeable and very friendly and helpful! The bartender was very helpful and knowledgeable about the menu and everything they offered. The food is ok. Brussels sprouts were delicious, the new Mazemen they offered lacked flavor. I understand it was vegetarian but I added the onsen egg hoping it would ass some umami but there was nothing. If you get it definitely add the soy sauce that comes in the little dropper. None of the yakitori stood out. Everything was just ok. Food is 3 stars but the service and staff give it the 4 stars!
Got a reservation here for an early dinner on a Saturday.
The only thing I knew about this spot is that it's popular and that they serve giant katsu. Well take a look at my pictures - that katsu is fucking huge! Could not have been happier with it from both a size and taste standpoint. It had a perfectly crunchy fry on the outside while still being juicy enough on the inside.. The whole experience was lovely from beginning to end. We were seated in a nice cool area in the back from which we could see the counters and rest of the restaurant. Then when we ordered sake we got to select our own glasses, which felt really fancy and personalized. Then the food, again, was delicious. The mazeman and noodles were great too, not just the katsu. Service was also attentive throughout and quick. Overall high recommendation from me but you've probably already heard of this place from others, so just go check it out already.

A spacious high ceiling restaurant in Greenpoint that also acts as an event space. When we came, there was a comedy show happening later in the evening. We didn't even realize that we sat next to the comedian and his wife for the entirety of the dinner until after. The service was good. The drink and food menu were extensive and unique. We were recommended to get a few skewers. We had the pork jowl which we would get again. The lamb tongue was not our favorite as we couldn't get over the presentation and the texture. It was legit a huge piece of an actual lambs tongue and cut into pieces on a stick. It definitely was obviously a large lamb tongue. I was expecting it to be crunchier/chewier but it was verrrry soft. The tuna sashimi was standard. The mazemen and the Brussels sprouts, and the main wagyu dish stole the show. I would definitely make my way back and will try to make a night of it with an after dinner show as well!
soso beautiful from ambiance to presentation of food.
we got a lot -- karaage, gem salad, salmon, mackerel, and some beef stews. i'd def prefer the fish over the meats, as they came with lovely accompaniments and were well seasoned. get the dessert (black sesame) for sure!! wish I could come here for brunch to try the souffle pancake.
Came here on a Saturday without making a reservation.
Didn't have to wait long to be seated and the servers was attentive. One of the apparent standouts is the massive fluffy soufflé with maple syrup and additional sesame ice cream. Also, ordered the gyu don so I can have the best of both worlds- savory and sweet. Highly recommend, and def need to go back to try the dinner me
Beautiful restaurant with a nice atmosphere.
The food and drinks are overpriced and were very mediocre. Service was ok, the server didn't seem too engaged in our party. Could have done without the last second "complimentary yuzu sake shot" right before paying. Felt the intention was for tip reasons rather than it just being a nice gesture. Overall after hearing so many good things, we left disappointed and unsatisfied. We spent over $100 and still left hungry. Not sure we'd be returning.
I had a hojicha latte which wasn't too sweet.
I enjoyed the Japanese breakfast set which came with salmon and veggies, miso soup, veggies with broth, and rice. I like the Japanese soufflé pancake and we got white chocolate soft serve. The pancake was light and airy. We came at 11am without a reservation and were seated at a communal table. Overall, the food was solid.

TLDR: You have to order the pancakes! The Japanese Souffle Pancakes here are the most unique and best pancakes I have had in NYC. The texture and creaminess inside is unmatched. Served with a sesame butter and maple syrup, the flavors blend together so well. The Katsu sandwich had the juiciest chicken and if you like it a little spicier, ask for a hot paste on the side.

Finally had a chance to try Rule of Thirds! I managed to get a resy for 3pm on a Sunday, they actually close at 3pm but it didn't affect the reservation at all. They did say they were running low on the fish sandos though so it's probably safer to get an earlier resy if possible! Overall I'm pretty happy with the experience but it was a little overhyped. The soufflé pancake is good but it's definitely not mind blowing. I actually really enjoyed the fish sando but I did end up taking one of the fish fillets out because it was so hard to take a bite. The ambiance of the inside is great and I would love to come back for dinner one day!
Highly reccomend when you're in the mood to try something
Highly reccomend when you're in the mood to try something different and not picky. All dishes were flavorful & sake is a must try. Service was very helpful and positive at all times!

Thank you for the question, if a seller is working on answering your bid, you cannot cancel it until their time is up and the bid is released back to you. The full amount of funds then go back into your AT account. Typically a seller has 48-72 hours to complete the bid.
