For all the hype I heard and red about République It
For all the hype I heard and red about République It didn't meet my expectations at all . The set up for breakfast / lunch is very chaotic as food runners are rushing madly and can not provide a good or friendly service and therefore not a relaxing experience at all . The food not that great either except the hot baguette which cost 13 $ !!!

The ambience was great, but the food in comparison to the price was mediocre. Service was very good, but paying $46 for a SINGLE scallop is absolutely crazy. $72 dollars for half a chicken? whack. The best part was the baguette and the phenomenal lobster pasta, but that's about it.

Housed in a historic building that once served as the iconic Campanile restaurant, Republique boasts an inviting ambiance. Built in 1928 by Charlie Chaplin and designed by architect Roy Seldon Price, the soaring ceilings, adorned with intricate moldings, create a sense of grandeur. Whether you're dining in the airy atrium, bustling bakery, or elegant dining room, every corner of Republique exudes charm and sophistication. Upon arrival, you wait in line to place your order, are given a number, find your table, and the server brings your drinks and food. The pastry case is so beautiful. Republique's menu is a culinary tour de force, showcasing the talents of its acclaimed chefs, Walter and Margarita Manzke (owners of Wildflour Bakeries in the Philippines), and celebrating the vibrant flavors of French cuisine with a modern twist. From the freshly baked pastries and artisanal bread that greet you at the bakery counter to the exquisite small plates and decadent mains served in the dining room, every dish demonstrates the restaurant's commitment to quality and innovation. The quiche offers patrons a taste of Parisian perfection. With its buttery richness and a subtle hint of salt, the crust provides the perfect foundation for the creamy custard filling. Each bite yields a yummy blend of smoothness, with the velvety custard giving way to tender morsels of filling that are comforting and indulgent. One of the highlights of dining at Republique is the opportunity to indulge in their expansive pastry selection, featuring an array of tempting treats crafted with love. From flaky croissants and buttery kouign-amann to rich cheesecakes and indulgent éclairs, there's something to satisfy every sweet craving. Additionally, don't miss out on their inventive cocktails, expertly crafted with seasonal ingredients and creative flair, complementing your meal perfectly. In conclusion, Republique offers an unforgettable dining experience that combines exceptional cuisine, great service, and a stunning setting. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion, enjoying a leisurely brunch, or simply craving a taste of French-inspired elegance, Republique will surely exceed your expectations and leave you longing to return for more.
Be the first to ReplyDon't be afraid of the line.
We went for brunch with friends and immediately got anxiety when we saw 60 people waiting at the door. The wait was around 20 minutes and they have a lil window where you can get coffee and pasties while you're in line. They have a cute outdoor area so bring a jacket. There were 6 of us and we all shared and picked at all the deliciousness. The wait staff was smiley and helpful! Highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyWe had the party of 8, so we could only do the preset menu.
Menu priced at 130$ pp. You can order additional items and drinks if you would like. Our waiters were nice and super accommodating. The restaurant is spacious and beautifully decorated. Food was amazing. The cheesecake was to die for!

The food is delicious but the dessert/bakery is where it is at! The atmosphere is pretty chill and the structure of the building is cool. I like the communal center table Idea. Service was good as well.

French or French-inspired cafe/bakery/bar/restaurant (depending on what time of day you go or where you sit). I've been here a couple of times for dinner, but never for breakfast/brunch. It's heavily weighted on one of my experiences here (more on that later), but I would probably consider this one of my favorites, if not my favorite restaurant in the city. I first came here for a work dinner a few years ago and already loved this place based on the delicious food, wonderful service, and vibe. The standout was a whole roasted chicken dish that was served on this wooden board. My other experience - and possibly my favorite dining experience of all time - was a collaboration between the restaurant, my favorite local spirits/wine store, and Beam Suntory. With the purchase of a ticket, we sat in a private room upstairs, essentially got to do a tasting menu or try a good portion of the menu at the time, got a visit from Walter Manzke himself, and got to try different Japanese whiskies, including sampling some components of Beam Suntory blends (e.g. Yamazaki) that you couldn't even purchase separately. As a big fan of whisk(e)y and the food here, this was as good as it gets. I pretty much enjoyed everything and probably won't/can't go into detail of what we had (especially since some of the items may be seasonal or not available anymore), but the meal included: - Big eye tuna and caviar toast / potato and leek beignets - Oysters - Kanpachi crudo - Margarita's famous baguette with Normandy butter - Octopus and garden of little gems salad - Butternut squash agnolotti - Bucatini - cacio e pepe - Chanel islands rock cod - Sonoma County duck breast - Thao Farms cauliflower - Desserts: assorted sorbet, caramelized white chocolate sabayon, salted caramel chocolate cake Just a sample of the whiskies we got to try: -Yamazaki 18 sherry, cask strength, single cask -Yamazaki 21 mizunara cask strenght, single cask The space - this space has a lot of LA history with the original structure getting built by Charlie Chaplin back in 1929. I even remember coming here when it was Campanile and La Brea Bakery a bunch of years ago. I read that they even brought in lots of tile, Yakal wood, and wrought iron in the form of raw material from the Philippines for the most recent iteration in this space. With the history, the high ceilings and beautiful aesthetics, this building is iconic. Definitely trying to visit again soon to try their breakfast. That kimchi fried rice looks and sounds amazing. Parking - of the few times I went, I was able to find street parking within a short walk. There's also valet parking. Again, keep in mind, I haven't been for their breakfast service, so not sure how the parking situation is during the early part of the day.

My family and I came here for brunch and ended up having a quick bite. The setup is cafe style where you order at the bakery counter and take a numbered metal coffee mug to your table. The ambiance is charming with both indoor seating and an outdoor patio, and we opted for the latter. Food: - **Buttermilk Pancake**: I tried the buttermilk (blueberry) pancake, and it was absolutely delightful. The buttermilk pancake was fluffy with a good texture and generously sized, almost like having a short stack in one serving. It came loaded with blueberries and was thick, accompanied by a side of syrup. At $19, it's definitely a shareable portion if you're not too hungry. Service: However, the service was a bit slow, and the numbering system for orders was confusing. While I didn't encounter any issues with my order, one member of our group never received theirs and had to get it refired to-go. Overall, despite the hiccup in service, the delicious pancakes and pleasant atmosphere make this spot worth a visit.

Food was very interesting, pastries however Delicious!!!! Had a latte which was decent. Ambiance is very nice definitely cafe like. Now as far as service the staff was nice but wish they would have been more helpful ordering and guiding through the process. Will come back for Pasties.

Shakshouka was amazing! Pastries were my favorite I don't remember the name, but was caramel and pistachios on top incredibly delicious! The matcha and the golden milk latte were to die for! The French omelette wasn't my favorite though no flavor but the rest was good!

The restaurant overall has really cool vibes that I'd enjoy anytime of the day. The food here was decent and my party enjoyed eating every dish we ordered. I would say though that the masala chai tea latte seemed very watered down to me. It had a subtle chai taste, but I felt the drink was too light for my liking with too much froth. I ordered the Shakshouka, which I'd recommend as an appetizer or shareable item, not it's own dish; I liked that there was a lot of sauce (2 eggs, beans, and tomatoes) to eat bread with. I was surprised when we ordered our food that the waiter didn't show us to our table. I found out that you have to go look for a table yourself, which took my party a long while to get seated. I didn't expect a "find your own table" at such a nice restaurant. But overall, decent food (pretty pricey here) and good service.

Be the first to ReplyMet my friend for dinner at Republique a few weeks ago
Met my friend for dinner at Republique a few weeks ago since we thought it would be a good meeting ground from the East & West. I was really excited to try Republique because I'd heard such good things about it. The service was great - although I will say every time a restaurant says "3-4 plates per person" I just know the portion recommendation is a way for the restaurant to upsell you. Trust me, you don't need as many dishes as they recommend. The food is rich & decadent. The interior of Republique is really spacious and great for big groups. I enjoyed our food, but the only thing I would say is that the truffle risotto had way too much mild tasting truffle.
Be the first to ReplyThis has become our date night go to spot for my wife and I.
The service is always, super friendly, responsive, and eager to make the experience a great one. We have also had great food every time. The consistency of greatness is a big reason we eat there regularly. The bartenders make an awesome drink and the wine list is super extensive. We have a couple of must have items we ordered. The tuna toast is such a good starter with the soft silky tuna and caviar paired with the crunchy toasted baguette. I am sure I would be happy to eat a dozen but I need to save room for the rest of the fun. The baguette and butter are a mandate. It's served with plenty of butter and some sea salt if you like really salty butter. They always have had super fresh and tasty oysters that are worth getting. All the seafood and meats have alway been great, and the sauces are my favorite. After that we alway save room for desert. Our go to is the fruit tiramisu. It's perfect! Sweet creamy with a great balance of tartness from the berries.

Busy and high energy space. Tried a couple of pastries, the short rib sandwich and the chocolate cake. Everything as delicious. Kudos to the chef and pastry chef.

Best place for breakfast in LA! Great food and fast service I wish it more places like this one in my city

Be the first to ReplyLove this place so much.
It's worth the wait. Every single item I've tried on the menu has been amazing. The oatmeal raisin cookies are to die for. So buttery and delicious. It's a bit pricey but I don't mind given the quality and the ambiance of the location as well. Parking on nearby neighborhood streets is usually easy too which is nice. I will always stop here when visiting LA!

Scrambeled egg and uni on toast, and mushroom pasta dishes were great. The braised beef cheek was too salty for our taste otherwise the meat was excellent. Our server was nice and friendly. Food come out at a comftarble pace about 5-10 minutes after we are done with previous dish. Overall it was a good experience.

One of the more unique brunch places in LA! The food is always good and very pretty but it does get pretty expensive for just toast. However the ambiance is always cozy even though it does get a bit crowded at times. My go-to is always the mushroom toast, but this time we also got the ricotta toast which was so fresh and a nice break from all the savory foods we ordered. The kimchi fried rice was delicious, and the short rib was so tender. Next time we will try their pastries!

Republique is a classic in the city, they do not take reservations and widely considered a wonderful spot for lovers of breakfast, cool ambiences, and baked goods. My recommendation is to arrive before 9:30am with a group to avoid not only a significant wait but also have the opportunity to try and sample the menu along with their extensive selection of unique bakery items. You wait in line, order and pay at the front and find a seat with your number. The staff ensured I found a table for my group which was very helpful. Service was great but a little unorganized. It can get chaotic. We also felt the food especially the pastries looked better than they tasted. The French toast was the star of the show and I personally thought they had some incredible drinks to offer.
