Well worth the effort.
We enjoyed generous portions of food and good service at lunch time, even though it was very busy and bustling. It became clear that you order at the entrance and can then choose where to sit either in one of the dining areas or at the patio. The menu was comprehensive with French and American dishes featured. It may be a little out of the way but a comfortable half hour walk to the Grove shopping area and Farmer’s Market. Not that many people walk in LA unless they are a tourist like us!

A busy and buzzing restaurant with a good mix of people. The menu is very good and the food was outstanding, with a special mention to the Dover Soul which was a highlight! Also had the Potato and Leak Beignets, Black Truffle Risotto, Cheeses and the Tiramisu, not forgetting the famous Baguette! All was really good. Service from our waitress was exceptionally good as was the advice and recommendations from the Sommelier who pointed us to a Sicilian number which certainly hit the spot! We were visiting from Australia and would certainly head to Republique when next in LA and have already recommended to Friends who are heading over.

Excellent, Michelin star-worthy cuisine that really can’t be faulted, but … $12.50 for bread?! C’mon, guys, don’t be greedy.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food & baked goods
Wow! Great food, quick service, beautiful room. Do arrive early as the restaurant gets crowded and the pastries sell out. There was much to choose from, and a lot of different cultural cuisines from around the world.
Be the first to ReplyFabulous lunch and amazing pastries!
We had lunch New Year’s Eve here and everything was delicious! From the coffee to the mimosas; the brunch and pastries we took for later -everything was amazing! Get there early and be ready to wait in line. It’s open seating once you order and pay. Beautiful space inside but we found seats outside and it was lovely! Highly recommend a visit!

Magnificent ambiance and pastries. Plus, it is a Michelin restaurant. Be sure to come early because it fills up pretty quickly! Enjoy in advance!!!
Be the first to ReplyThe Butter of Kings!
This space is beautiful as it was built in 1928 by charlie chaplin. it is a bakery by day and a lovely restaurant at night. Beware that the butter that comes with your baguette is $12 but it is imported from France and will spoil ANY other butter that you have in the future. Also, their leek and potato soup was a poem - also I had the endive salad and cod and it was all gorgeous !!!

Excellent restaurant experience. Excellent food presented in a Tapas style. Very knowledgeable staff. A great night out. Recommended.

My visit to Republique in Los Angeles was a delightful immersion into the world of artisanal pastries and gourmet cuisine. The café’s ambiance, with its grandeur and the scent of freshly baked bread, created an inviting atmosphere. The menu featured a selection of freshly baked bread, pastries, and brunch dishes, each prepared with impeccable attention to detail. Savoring a croissant while enjoying the bustling atmosphere was a culinary delight. The café’s commitment to using high-quality, locally sourced ingredients was evident in every dish. Whether you’re starting your day with breakfast or indulging in a weekend brunch, Republique is a must-visit for a taste of Los Angeles’s artisanal culinary culture and a journey into gourmet indulgence.
Be the first to ReplyRestaurant Avoids You Like the Plague
We ate last night at this restaurant (2/17/23) and made the reservation through Open Table, we checked in with the hostess, she looked it up on the computer, knew from the reservation we wanted to sit outside and without asking took us there proving she had the Open Table reservation. This morning I get an email from Open Table saying the reservation was canceled. I spent $225 plus $20 valet. Beware: This restaurant doesn't want to talk to you. If you call, no one is there to answer the phone anytime of day and no voice mail. They hate human interaction and think of their customers as robots. I can also tell you the food is overpriced for the quantity served including supposed 5 ounce wine pours that are probably 3 ounces. You can order WAYGU steak and the amount barely fills a coffee cup plate for $48.00. A small baguette with butter is $12.00!! Avoid this place.
Be the first to ReplyUnique pastries and more
There were every kind of pasty from creams, savory, fruits etc. The cost was between $5-7. They were all good. There are also typical breakfast items such as eggs, waffles and toasts. The atmosphere has a cool vibe. There is a line to get in but it moves quickly. I loved it.
Be the first to ReplyAvoid outdoor tables!
There is a huge difference between indoor and outdoor tables (even if the price is the same). The indoor is very nice (as advertised on the restaurant's website), but the outdoor is so poor and cheap (pls see my picture). The restaurant's website is clearly misleading on outdoors. The quality of food is average. The service is good. If you want to go to Republique and the only option available is an outdoor table, don't do it.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious & creative food
The Manzke’s are 2 talented chefs and their food is creative, thoughtful and delicious. We experienced exceptional service from Olivia and the staff on the patio. I highly recommend the baguette with Normandy butter & Fleur de Sel, the beautiful steak tartare with Dijon ice cream. This was probably my favorite bite of the night. Creative and delicious. We also shared the Lovster Campanelle and a short rib with fries (done right, twice fried, probably in duck fat) so GOOD! Our one negative review is that sitting outdoors still feels like a converted Covid parking lot. There isn’t much charm. Had we known, we would have requested indoor dining. The ambiance was greatly lacking and just made me sad.
Be the first to ReplyFabulous food - well worth a visit
Great choices on menu - food fabulous, staff at counter great - serving staff not brilliant but the food more than made up for it - delicious! Plus you can see the whole kitchen at work and even the bakery side - watching the bread being made from scratch - highly recommended
Be the first to ReplyLove at First Bite!
Wow! We came here for brunch and tried several things including a Tres Leches cake, a Bombolini and a savory danish. The main entrees we ordered and the lattes were very good but the desserts were amazing. There was a long line even at 10 am when we arrived but the line moved quickly and we were inside in 15-20 minutes. When its your turn to order, there are several large cases of beautiful pastries and other goodies to choose from. The choices were too many (maybe look online before you go for the first time?). Although I am not a Tres Leche cake fan, this was one of the most delicious cakes I have ever had. There is open seating in what feels like an open windowed warehouse and a server brings you your food after you order. We are all foodies and this is as good as it gets! I told my daughter I was writing this review today and she replied I'm salivating just thinking about it. Yummy, Yummy & Yummy. We can't wait to go back!

A very nice place, I felt like it is a family oriented simply because of the attention and care provided by the staff specially (Joey). Most of the food we have ordered tonight was excellent in matter of taste and presentation, very good service. Highly recommended
Be the first to ReplyWould have been a 5 if had better service
Food was amazing but had many issues with the staff. Asked many times for silverware and glasses and didn’t get any until much later after getting our food. One of our entrees also didnt come for a another half hour after the rest of our food did.
Be the first to ReplyDinner at Republique
Our server Sandra and the sommelier, I can’t remember her name right now, were both amazing! Thank you for a wonderful night out. The food was incredible. Based on their current menu the baguette with butter and pan drippings, the baby greens, the crudo, the stuffed squash blossoms, the lobster Campanella, and the arugula casarecce are all highly recommended. They have a very wonderfully extensive wine list.
Be the first to ReplyClassy twist on a modern LA restaurant
We went here for a birthday dinner and it blew our minds. The food was absolutely delicious. The main restaurant is indoors and tight quarters, not recommended for dogs, recommended to get reservations. Republique serves small plates, we recommend taking them family style as the dishes are all amazing and worth a try. The chef masterfully twists classic French flavors and techniques with seasonal California ingredients. The result is a fresh and rich flavor unique to the time and place. The atmosphere is extremely inviting while maintaining an upscale feel. The modern California vibes are definitely here but the restaurant is tasteful, it does not feel needlessly trendy and incorporates facets of the historic building. High ceilings allow the moderately sized restaurant to feel spacious and airy. The service is top quality. Wait staff are highly knowledgeable in the food and drink, and quicker to respond to guests’ needs than many similarly priced restaurants in Los Angeles. Highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyLunch. Hugely, massively, unbelievably over-rated
What a load of rubbish. Don’t bother. We’ve eaten in all the best, ‘hottest’, most well-established, recommended places. What a waste of an hour of my life. Congrats to their PR team; they’re doing a great job!
Be the first to ReplyWay over Priced
The food was not bad. I was told that the appetizers were priced for one bite, so I didn't order any. I had a baked scallop for $34.00, one scallop only. It was good, but not worth $35.00. Next was pumpkin risotto w/ quail, also good but not worth $49.00. Both of these had truffles. Next came the red wine short rib. Also good, not worth $45.00. I think I'll take a break from fine dining, it's just not satisfying anymore, maybe it's COVID.
Be the first to ReplyStill no "WOW"
I went to Republique years back when it first opened and didn't really get the hype back then. My previous review is on trip advisor.
We tried again with what looked like a great special Thursday night tasting menu.
It's unfortunate that so much of the meal, which was 5 star, was spoiled by some really bad service choices.
1. The first course was advertised as crab and at the restaurant they served eel. When I asked the server about the change of the menu she was not aware. And they are allowed to substitute but the customer's not.... not a great amenity for a $140 menu. ( FYI, I'm not a big eel fan)
2. Up until the last meat course, all was totally fantastic. Amazing scallop dish, sunchoke soup, pasta, dover sole with champagne, just delicious. The meal was hitting a home run.
3. However, when you advertise liberty duck as the last course before dessert, it's probably wise to serve more than an ounce of it, even if it's a tasting menu. This was just another bad choice and the duck was not well represented....it was a sad looking plate. It really brought the whole meal down.
4. I also need to comment on the wine tasting which was very well paired but I think $95 was a bit steep for the rigorous 2 oz. pour selections..... Not to be totally picky, but I usually get a least one "topping" pour on one of the tasting when spending this amount.... it's a nice service "extra".
When you're spending $250 a person for this type of meal, I think all the choices have to be well thought out. I think it's a shame that bascically such a good meal could suffer from a few choices which are so easily correctable:
1. if you're going to change a component of a one night advertised menu, admit it when you greet the guests and offer something to substitute.
2. when you're featuring Liberty Duck on the menu, and as the last entree course, serve more than an ounce of it
3. give an extra splash of wine with one of the tastings, it's a small effort that goes a long way and makes the customer feel just a tad more appreciated.
Deliciousness in LA
Absolutely delicious food and fantastic service. République does not disappoint and lives up to its hype. The steak is cooked perfectly and the duck is tender and paired well with sweet caramelized peaches.
Our waitress recommended the bread and butter and I'm so glad we took her up on her suggestion. The butter is flown in from Normandy and adds flavor and creaminess to the rich crispiness of the baguette.
Service is top notch. The only thing that I didn't like was the Japanese highball cocktail. Too much soda water diluted the drink, and the overall flavor profile was a bit bitter.
French Tapas
Great ambiance and great food and drinks. We tried a few different dishes and everything was delicious. The portions were just right to share them with four people.
Service:
The server was good but recommended 2-3 dishes per person which seemed unnecessary (at least for the 4 of us).
The restaurant also kept pushing truffle for additional cost with several of the dishes after we already said no the first time
While the cats are away... the mice will play...
Republique. One of my favorite restaurants in Los Angeles. First time back to dine inside following a number of happy take out experiences and months of you know what…
A birthday treat for the wife and I.
How was it? Honestly, the food was glorious. Just great. As excellent as ever and to be congratulated but…the service? It was the absolute worst.
Stunningly, stupefyingly, exasperatingly bad service. Gobsmacking. From the first employee we met (we’d walked in the side entrance), who, as we approached him, openly, loudly guzzled great gulps of liquid from a huge growler (he held a finger up to us while he swallowed). After he finished he informed us he was the “Sommelier" and didn't "do reservations". Then a flustered maitre'd who then kept us outside waiting 25 minutes (we arrived inside on time) to a wordlessly wandering manager with a floor fixed gaze impervious to any issue. To likely the rudest, most patronizing, passive aggressive and disinterested waiter I’ve come across outside of a bad movie. Oh, let's not forget the busboy’s. Mutely wandering about like automatons loudly stacking plates on our table and lumbering over us mid conversation to slowly, slowly dribble millimeter after excruciating millimeter of water into our already full glasses.
The entire service experience? in a word, comically offensive. Actually, that’s two words. Oh well. There you have it. Not what we had hoped for or missed during lockdown. Regardless. Wake up, owners and managers! If you want to successfully serve sit down customers again...you gotta up your game. Your restaurant isn't a rural Russian cafeteria or priced like one. It's that...or stick to doing take out. I know I will. For now at least...
