This is a local Portuguese jewel.
The food was delicious and respectful of the genuine Portuguese traditional cuisine. The service was great as well as the red house wine. The desert "Baba de Camello"is a MUST to try. Don't think about the name. It's like a dulce de leche mouse. Truly unforgettable. Un Saturday, the star is "Tripa al estilo Porto"........

3 hour Riding from Lisbon, I promised ourselves a very good dinner and drink by looking into all directions in the neighborhood ....however the search did not go beyond our street corner, there I eyed on the this small but a crowded "grease spoon". A giant crock-pot of Shellfish stew and some white wine that totally settled our night. The small establishment somehow has its 35years old history, and I can say their seafood stew is one of the best, the quantities were enormous and delicious, we would really like to come back again if our busy itinerary would allow it. This has been one of our favorite Portuguese restaurant of our last city trip in Porto. We really loved the family ambiance and their foods.

We came here for lunch by chance, we didn't have reservations and were lucky to get a table but were dining quite early around 12.15. We ordered the octopus (good), a seafood soup (not so much to our taste, a bit creamier than we'd planned on) and side salad (simple but good). Staff are friendly and attentive. A good pit stop for lunch if you're seeing the sights and don't want something sub-par like many other places in the area.
Be the first to ReplyWow this place was a gem.
Not only was it a pretty fancy place with great decor (people from all over the world put their coins on the cavernous walls), but it was reasonably priced with an excellent menu and staff. I definitely have to commend Ivo for helping me debone my amazing Portuguese sword fish and pick out a great wine. I was lucky I snagged my table as a massive line began after I began my lunch

Recommended by Rick Steves and rightfully so. Wonderful seafood dishes and top rate service. Prices are very reasonable. Staff is extremely competent, friendly and helpful.

A nice little place in a small alley, not far from the Douro. The food was really good, I had a seafood rice, not too dissimilar to Spanish paella but with more liquid, say between a paella and a soup. It was very tasty. Others in our party had grilled fish and meats. All was good Portuguese food. The place is small so don't arrive too late or you won't have a table. For those you don't know, people tend to eat earlier in Portugal than in Spain. Service was attentive but one of our plate was forgotten in the kitchen so we had to wait longer... not a big deal when you are there to enjoy your evening but it could be a bad thing if you have a tight schedule.

5 stars. The location is tucked away on a side street near the Douro river. The food was good, but similar to the other foods elsewhere. Service was ok, but we had to flag down the server several times. We had octopus, grilled sardines, salad, and some beef. The octopus was tender and flavroful, the sardines (whole, so require careful deboning) were good, the beef was a bit tough, ans salad was quite simple (not sure how Portuguese get enough veggies). They had a number of Taylor Porto wines which were good to taste next to each other.

Very reasonably priced for being on Rua Ribeiro. Very big portions and the food was lovely.

Another great restaurant in Porto! We first tried to come here on a Friday night with a party of four but were turned away around 9 PM because they were too busy. We came back for a late lunch on Sunday and it was empty. The staff was helpful and spoke very good English (though we gave our best shot at Portuguese) but only really opened up to us when they saw a Rick Steves Portuguese phrase book sticking out from one of our bags. They said Rick came to visit their restaurant and now features it in his Portugal book. Any customer who comes and mentions/shows the book is offered a free glass of port wine (for us it was a Ferreira tawny). After we made this connection the staff was much friendlier and shared their favorite restaurants, bars and hangouts in the city. For food, we shared two of the "for two" dishes among four people: Bacalhau Ora Viva (bacalhau under sauteed peppers and onions with hand-cut and house-made thick chips) and another bacalhau dish that was also very good.
