Worst Service Ever
Rude, slow and the worst service in all of Madrid. Not sure how they got 4.5 stars - I would avoid!!

Excellent find. Beautifully designed restaurant, matched with excellent friendly service and food. The owner is very welcoming and speaks exceptionally good English. All the food was superb. We will definitely be back.

Tasted here tonight and loved the ambiance. This is small and visited by both spaniards and americans. The the host will help you figure out what you want based upon your appetite. But don't order like two appetizers and then leave. That is rude for a restaurant (we saw americans do that and the could have got tapas somewhere else). not fair for a restaurant that turns their tables bone. Fair prices for expert food. One of our top places. You must book a reservation as there are only 12 tables. Thanks Nacho close to Plaza Major and Puerto del sol

This is a very centrally located restaurant in a wonderfully atmospheric old building with high ceilings and wooden beams.
After a delicious amuse bouche of asparagus soup, we ate a variety of tapas and shared some raciones , all of which were excellent.
For tapas we had Rabo de toro, Idiazabel croquettas, artichoke, all of which were very good but the highlight of the tapas was the sepia albondigas. In themselves they were delicious but also the sauce they came in was wonderfully flavoursome.
For mains we had Rabo de toro and pulpo, both of which were excellent, delicious and bursting with depth of flavour.
The service from the outset was friendly, attentive and informative and despite our limited Spanish and our hosts lack of Irish , everything was very well explained in English. We especially appreciated the truffles with olive oil and salt which were a fittingly outstanding finish to a superb meal.
The service and food we experienced in AskuaBarra was far superior to other high ranking establishments in Alicante which we have visited . Highly recommended.
Lovely Evening
We had a wonderful time at AskuaBarra. The ambiance and service is gracious and welcoming. The food is delicious. A standout, suprisingly, is the Caesar salad. It is a must order. The steak tartar is also noteworthy. The cost with wine is very reasonable- especially for such a classy evening.

This is a lovely neighborhood restaurant with outstanding food and service. From the amuse-bouche through dessert everything we ate was really good.
The restaurant was absolutely packed on a Thursday night so I would definitely make reservations. Our server recommended wine for us and we had a leisurely meal that lasted two hours.
Particular stand-outs were the steak tartare, Caesar salad, grilled steak and cheesecake.
Excellent food; hospitable, skillful service
Warmly greeted by the owner/manager who helped us (non-Spanish speaking) with our ordering: choose Iberico ham, Caesar salad, whole monkfish (shared), and apple tart. The Caesar salad was made with flash-cooked, then cooled broccoli instead of Romaine- exceedingly tender and a novel and successful interpretation of this dish. Monk fish was moist and succulent - served whole, deboned in the kitchen and divided into individual portions at tableside by our server. Tart with thin pastry and caramelized apple was a perfect finish. A memorable evening.

We loved the hospitality and the Outstanding quality of the food and wines. We shared each course, as this was an option. Highlights were the steak tartar, the fresh crispy bread, the excellent fish of the day: monkfish and the cheesecake desert. We asked for accompanying wines with each course and tasted surprisingly good and special wines. Even the tea at the end was of a good quality. Thank you so much team! We had a wonderful evening in this special restaurant.
