Best place in Budapest
Perfect wine pairing, flawless dinner, nice service! Loved every detail, on the plates and in the restaurant as well. Definitely coming back!
Be the first to ReplyThey call it magic, but it’s just a series of cheap tricks
Food quality: 6/10, service: 6/10, value for money: 3/10. Would I return or recommend it to others? The answer is no. They call it magic, but it’s just a series of cheap tricks – this is how I would describe my visit to the RUMOR restaurant led by Jenő Rácz. It started all shiny, then came the twist: the bar feeling (more like dangling legs towards the end), and the champagne presented as a “gift,” only to appear on the bill at 16,900 HUF/dl – surprise, a little “extra” of 33,800 HUF! Later, an 8.5 euro retail wine appeared, priced at 2,950 HUF/dl, whose mood-breaking “screw cap” opening even shattered the illusion of a Michelin-starred restaurant. At dinner, we chose a more expensive menu, where the dishes were eye-pleasing - sometimes thimble-sized - but we didn’t find them coherent: Asian, Indian, Hungarian dishes arrived one after another without a concept. The burnt cauliflower and the foie gras were good but not outstanding. Sitting at the high counter, the waiters struggled to place the dishes – not exactly an elegant sight. Moreover, the staff didn’t have a uniform dress code, which further disturbed the environment’s unity and professionalism. And here’s our ringmaster, the Rolex, I mean the Hublot ambassador – He’s the one who flatters the gold-watch-wearing, pot-bellied entrepreneurs and their lip-augmented companions. His attentiveness has a particular “selectiveness”: only the brightest shine gets the necessary attention. Quite a special circus where the clown doesn’t entertain but shines in the light of gold watches. At the end of the evening, the bill was 204,000 HUF for two, excluding wine pairings. It’s worth knowing that it’s better to eat before dinner because otherwise, the guest might stay hungry. I felt it was a complete rip-off, a poorly put together show with hidden costs. Instead, I would recommend the SALT restaurant, where we paid about 140,000 HUF for 15 items with a full wine pairing, more intimate service, and a much better atmosphere. After RUMOR, one would rightfully knock at the ticket office for their money back – but this is not a circus, just a restaurant that sadly does not live up to its reputation.
Be the first to ReplyAn amazing Budapest restaurant!
This restaurant was amazing! We went to the early seating. We were warmly greeted. The menu was well explained, it's prie fixe. We could watch the food being prepared. We chose the premier wine pairings and thoroughly enjoyed them. Every course was delightful. I would return in a heartbeat!
Be the first to ReplyNOT GOOD ENOUGH
IT’S SIMPLY JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH We were very much looking forward to visiting Rumour, a Michelin guide restaurant, but were sadly disappointed. We had ordered 11-course tasting menu with wine pairing. The food tasted nice, but none of the courses had the wow-effect. The wine was good, but white wine for seven of nine courses was not as expected. We were seated at chefs table, but would have preferred our own table so we could discuss the courses and the wine. The waiters presented each course as they had recited the text. It was too quickly and difficult to understand, and they had difficulties in reformulating the text. The restrooms was missing both towels and toilet paper. For this amount of money we could have chosen many restaurants and had a better experience. best regards 4 ladies
Be the first to ReplyOne of those experiences that was the extra
It's all done! Everything from the entrance to the bar and restaurant part. Fantastic with the open kitchen. The wine you get is fantastic. We bought the Hungarian wine menu as it was fun to try the local.
Be the first to ReplyVery expensive pleasure
The food is (étoile oblige) a delight for the palate and the eye. The staff are friendly. The price level is very high - you can get it cheaper in this category in Central Europe (including France). The crowning glory was that a "service surcharge" was charged without mentioning or explaining it - a whopping 30 euros! Not that that is generally the norm... I also found it inappropriate that the time of the reservation only partially coincides with the time of the meal: Here, the guests are first gathered together, have to wait for a quarter of an hour (as in my case) and are then gradually asked to sit down at the table. I had never experienced that before...
Be the first to ReplyWonderful discovery... innovative creative chef.. above all a culinary artist
I would say the dinner at this very innovative and particular restaurant was superlative. The restaurant allows all customers (maximum 21 people seated around the single table) to see the kitchen and the preparation of the dishes. Very attentive and professional staff who explain each preparation... chef Racz Jeno is also present and passionately explains the birth of his dishes. Each dish is a work of art... very particular and contrasting combinations... but the result I would say is superlative. Excellent wine pairing. We were really enthusiastic about the route proposed by the Chef and it will certainly be an obligatory stop if we return to Budapest.
Be the first to ReplyAn amazing experience
Amazing experience. The dinner consists of 11 dishes, each has a different twist which would take your dinner to the next level. Cocktails were extraordinary, thanks to the amazing bar manager who took care of us. The restaurant would take into consideration your personal food preferences. (e.g. if you do not eat fish the chef would provide some alternatives).
Be the first to ReplyBest restaurant, best waiter
It’s not just a dinner, it’s a great experience, it is what you expect from a michelin star restaurant…or more. Szilamér, our waiter was the best! He not just told us the menu like everybody else, he told stories, jokes, recommended the best wines and made our evening more enjoyable! Excellent restaurant!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent restaurant
Amazing food, excellent service, ambiance and art. We felt genuinely welcomed by our server and the cook who took time to speak both about the dishes and the artwork. 5star food that I highly recommend (my favourite were the re-interpretations of Hungarian staples) to anyone visiting Budapest.
Be the first to Reply11-course tasting with wine pairing
I expected more from this beautiful food. Everything tasted very nice, but none of the wow-effect, the fusion of flavours that I had elsewhere. You look at the plate and expect to be blown away, but it is just simply good. We found the balance also off: after 8 mini-bite-sized courses you are still hungry but drunk already. And this is when you get 3 servings of super generous amounts of sweet dessert, which just doesn’t feel good. We picked the basic wine pairing, and that was also just so-so, the classic ‘smells amazing but tastes average’ problem. We were seated at the very beginning of the row where the whole theater experience is less enjoyable I think, as the waiters were passing by us nonstop. Maybe try to book a seat in the middle of the row to get the kitchen buzz instead of the corridor buzz. All in all we wanted to love the evening, we counted down the days for months after booking, and the venue/concept is a great idea, the design, the staff are something to remember, however for this amount of money I am not sure I will be back.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food and wines
As many other review already mentioned, the food was great! A variety of small dishes, with surprising ingredients sometimes, and loaded with creativity. I mean, I didn’t know a beetroot salad could be so good, same thing with the signature dish which is based around a really tasty piece of cauliflower. Super good! Some dishes, like the white chocolate ice cream with caviar, were a very interesting twist. That particular dish was really good despite the surprising association of ingredients. Ultimately that why you go to such nice restaurants, to be surprised. We chose the Hungarian wine package, which I highly recommend. Our thought was to learn more about the different types of wine produced in Hungary. We got detailed explanation about each wine, about the production method, the grapes and the regions. You could feel how proud they were to show us Hungarian wines. We got some great tips and definitely added some nice wines to our list of favorites. In general, you can feel that the team there loves what they are doing. And you feel the love in the food. Thanks you to all the personal for the impeccable service and amazing culinary experience. We are looking forward to coming back the next time we are in Budapest.
Be the first to ReplyVery good food. Nice ambience. Good service. Worth a visit!
Very good food. Nice ambience. Good service! Worth a visit! On “display”, an 11 course tasting menu which offers a broad range of flavours, ingredients and impressions. Beautifully crafted, most of them with tweezers :), the team of 15? (there were so many people in the kitchen) prepare little delights in the open kitchen. Which you can overlook from comfortable high chairs at a long “chefs table”. There was a very special pre dessert tested yesterday which was white chocolate yeast with caviar! Worked perfectly!

The absolutely deserve that star. The food is special, creative, well presented with amazing flavours and textures. The service was very good and the design of the venu is just beautiful.
Be the first to ReplyBirthday
We celebrated my wife’s birthday, despite it wasn’t our first visit, we wanted to check what has been changed since the restaurant got its first Michelin star this autumn. Arrived with high expectations, and enjoyed every moment of our visit. Although we skipped the wine pairing -as we wanted to finish the evening upstairs at the Rumour Bar-, we had a great sortiment of (mainly) Hungarian wines. All plates and wines were just perfectly balanced, looked and tasted just fantastic, from the first bite till the last one. We also had a little surprise birthday cake, was very attentive!! The cocktails at the bar were just cherries on the cake! We loved this journey in Rumour’s gastronomy!
Be the first to ReplySurprisingly fantastic
I feel I must disclose, first, that the amuse bouche served before the courses was particularly fantastic, and really did a great deal to set the mood for appreciating the food to come. The atmosphere of the restaurant, in both the physicality and the art selection, unfortunately puts off the kind of pretentious vibe of many restaurants of this calibur. This made it all the more enjoyable when I had the treat of later hearing the chef discuss how such restaurants can often lose the point in their pretension. His intention is to focus first on the deliciousness of each dish, which is sought in balance rather than potency or exoticism of flavor. I believe that this mission serves to ground the flavors here, such that I would credit the chef with being experimental but without requiring the patron to be particularly adventurous in their pallette. There were many dishes throughout that either my partner or I would generally not be particularly keen on, or would consider perhaps polarizing or divisive. Rather than simply engaging exotic flavors for the purpose of "showing off", the clearly well-traveled chef instead incorporates from the pallette of his experiences. The chef himself admitted that he would be very unlikely to order a cauliflower dish from the menu of a restaurant that would offer a more promising entree, such as a steak or a schnitzel. But here, the cauliflower is served with a beef cheek that is so thoroughly cared for as to make the bites not only as flavorful as if from a steak, but done in a manner that is surprising to the pallette as the beef is dehydrated and grated over the cauliflower, and only truly 'activates' when coming into contact with saliva. This, to me, is what makes the cuisine particularly commendable: that the intention of deliciousness is pursued with this careful attention to detail. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed some of the dishes, and surprised by how much I enjoyed Rumour. I wish them great success, and eagerly anticipate when I can next return.

We’ve chosen the theatre menu which was finally a good choice. The food was delicious and the plates were designed in a very creative and nice way. Our host Zoltán was really prepared and was able to answer for all of our questions we had during the dinner.
