Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud Dublin 2 Reviews from The Last Year
Lovely service and delicious food!
My husband and I celebrated his birthday with a meal at Patrick Guilbaud. We ordered the eight course tasting menu with wine pairing. Each course was delicious, beautifully presented, and unique. Stephane, one of the owners, stopped by our table to check on us several times. He was present in the dining room the entire evening speaking to diners and seating people. He was very friendly and welcoming. The wait staff and sommelier were equally attentive. They were professional but not stuffy. We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience.
One of the Best Meals I Have Ever Eaten
First things first-if you think this place is stuffy-you are wrong. The staff is welcoming, responsive and, in some cases, quite funny. Stephane the GM came over to say hello as we were having predinner drinks in the lovely lounge/bar area. No snooty staff is a huge plus! And the ( two Michelin starred) food was perfect in all respects-and also not stuffy. When you have this level of local Irish ingredients, coupled with this technique-you get culinary perfection.
Sadly disappointed
My family and I went here for our last night on our Ireland holiday. Sadly, we were very disappointed with our experience. We made a 7:30 reservation. The restaurant called us right and emailed us right after 7 to ask us where we were. Somehow, they thought we should be there at 7pm. The service was off. The wine sommelier came over first. Before we had a chance to look at the menu, the waiter asked what we wanted to eat. He seemed a bit stuffy and put off when we asked questions. When our appetizers arrived, they mixed up who got what. Oops...accidents happen. For dinner, we all ordered the same thing. So no mix ups there. Then our dessert. My daughter went to use the restroom right before. The plates arrived while she was in the restroom. When she came back, we waited...and waited...and waited...until my partner flagged down the server to lift the lids on our plates. And again...they switched our plates! The food was hit or miss. We thoroughly enjoyed our lobster, caviar pasta, and scallop appetizers, the veal was delicious, and the milk and honey dessert was phenomenal. With that said - the ham croqueta was tasty but no better than what you could find at far less fancy places, the baba rhum dessert was overpoweringly rummy, the rice pudding souffle was just weird, and the strawberry dessert was plain. The sweets after were ok. I would not choose the eat the cream puff or licorice macaron again. When I go to a fine dining establishment - I expect first rate service and to be wowed by food. I'm hoping this was just an off night.
Pompous service was simply uncomfortably overwhelming
First, the dinner itself was first rate. We had outstanding food - our mains were lamb and veal. What the restaurant no doubt feels is exceptional attention to detail is in fact, oppressive. The service team seems to be on marionettes. We could not enjoy a sip of water without someone coming to replace it. The servers pride themselves in simultaneously and in dramatic fashion, lifting the magic silverware covering our food. Voila! The restaurant appeared on display throughout. There was an arrogance to the servers and the to the restaurant that diminished our enjoyment of it. i would not go back for that reason.
Exceptional food & experience
My husband treated me to this restaurant for my birthday. It was fabulous. Leave your phone behind and just be present with whoever you are with & savor the food. The food is OUT of this world. Itβs very expensive but rightfully so. The wait staff is so kind & they run the restaurant like a machine. Your glass is never empty & the food just keeps coming. 2 hours in a restaurant felt so quick even though my husband and I were just relaxing & enjoying our dinner together. Highly highly recommend this to treat yourself.
A five star experience
I saw Mickael Viljanen from Chapter One on TikTok saying this was his favourite restaurant so with that endorsement, along we went to celebrate the husbandβs birthday. The first four or five staff we encountered were all French and how charming they were too. Stefane appears to be in charge and he introduced himself and chatted for a while. This set the tone for really friendly service and we were not expecting that in a two star, mainly French establishment. The food was outstanding and portions were very generous. As you would expect, the breads were exceptional, particularly the seaweed bread and an onion flavoured one. Each course was served then the waiter explained the components to us. We particularly liked the pea amuse bouche and the main course of corn fed chicken and jus. We loved the petits fours and delicious chocolates which we had with a very good Americano. Overall, an amazing odyssey with top quality ingredients that were impeccably treated. We felt special and even met PG himself. We will return for dinner and the next family occasion.
An amazing restaurant with no pretentiousness
If you are looking for a Michelin-starred restaurant with truly great food and genuinely attentive service, then this is the place. Many similar restaurants would be pretentious but every staff member here treated us with great care and attention. We had hoped to book this restaurant on our trip to Dublin, but 6 weeks out it was full. We mentioned this to the attached hotel (Merrion) where we were staying, and just as we were about to head out into the town dressed in jeans, looking for a restaurant, we got a call saying there was a cancellation and could we come right away. After a very quick change, we were seated in the restaurant. Even though we were last minute guests, and even though we are very small eaters and hence only ordered two courses, we experienced the same high level of service that everyone else in the restaurant did. In fact, its good that we only ordered two courses as there were so many added bonus treats during the course of our meal that we were full when we left. If you can combine very upscale elegance with Italian grandmother who keeps bringing you things to eat, you'll get the picture. The food we did have was exceptional as would be expected. Later in the evening Patrick Guilbaud himself went from table to table introducing himself and chatting with the guests. My wife have been to many Michelin star restaurants, but of all those restaurants, I would say the service here is both the best and most personal that we have encountered.
Totally Fantastic!
Total class, definitely earns the reputation and stars. Everything was excellent and the staff was wonderful. Wine pairing was done perfectly to compliment the amazing dishes. Went here to celebrate my engagement and was promptly greeted with congratulations which was an appreciated touch. Love the dining room and lounge as well.
Worth its weight in gold!!
Worth its weight in gold!! We took our mother out for her 70th birthday and it was an experience we won't forget in a hurry. The food was sublime and the service was superb. We were well fed and not a morsel was left on any plate, the staff, atmosphere and the entire evening was absolutely brilliant!!
An exquisite evening in a very special place!
An absolutely amazing experience from start to finish. From the excellent bar staff at the start and their good fun, to the fantastic staff in the dining room. Everyone was so friendly, helpful, professional and nice. We had an amazing view of the full restaurant and it was like being on a movie set. The food was exquisite. So tasty and innovative. There were too many names to mention. Everyone we met was absolutely top class and we canβt wait to visit again.
Really good but really expensive (especially the wine)
I had been here for lunch before a few years ago but never dinner. Was the absolute bomb. We had lobster ravioli and truffle ravioli type things for starters which were really good. And had the lamb and the sole for mains, which were really excellent. You get little snacks and amouse bouches or whatever in between courses. Also had a delicious dessert and cheeseboard. It's ridiculously expensive and the cheapest wine is like 80 euros so be prepared for your wallet to take a hammering.
Fantastic
A spectacular jewel of a restaurant Amazing food and itβs my favourite place in Dublin to go for lunch or dinner Book you wonβt be disappointed
Unable to get dinner reservations so we opted for lunch
We opted for lunch at RPG because dinner was not available and quite glad we had this adjustment. As with most tasting menu experiences the lunch was a 3 hour experience. Had we had dinner it would have been way too late. My suggestion opt for the lunch. We were first seated in a cozy bar area where we were served a cocktail by an attentive staff and were provided the menu to select from in this room (before seated in the dining room). The menu is a tasting and you can choose between a 3 and 5 course meal. We opted for 3 and that was quite enough. Everyone in the seating is asked to opt for the same number of servings. From the leisurely cocktail we were escorted into the dining room which was quite difference with high ceilings and bowed ceiling. The tables were appropriately spaced . The service was formal yet friendly. The servings were ample and tasty, as a matter a fact when served with pastries at the end of the meal we asked to take them away. Everything was well prepared and tasty. I will return to the restaurant when returning to the Merrion.
There is a reason this place has been the best restaurant in Ireland for the last 40 years!
Went for lunch here on 12 December with my wife and two friends, another couple. Stephane welcomed us at the door and offered us an aperitif. We had a lovely table surrounded by some beautiful Sean Scully paintings. The food was just beautiful - my game tart with jus and fillet steak were cooked to perfection. This was at the height of the Christmas period and genuinely - everything and service was to perfection. No detail missed. Mr. Patrick Guilbaud came to our table to check up on us and thank us for dining at the restaurant. We finished off in the cocktail lounge/cigar area with a gorgeous cigar and cocktails. This experience was just delightful and must be commended. Top class. Needs to be an annual calendar treat at Christmas. Looking forward to going back.
Amazing service, food and atmosphere
We opted for the tasting menu with wine pairing - it was delicious. such a treat. The staff are all so friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. Lovely to have Patrick Guilbaud greet all his customers and check in on how everything was. Well done to all, especially the amazing chefs. We canβt wait to go again!
The Complete Restaurant Experience
I read the last few reviews with a sinking heart just prior to going to the restaurant, but I needn't have worried. The place was professional to a degree that most restaurants can only dream of and the menu balanced in terms of range and portion size. The lobster starter, turbot and lamb mains, milk and honey and souffle desserts were exceptional. The meal started with a a canape so light it seemed to melt into nothing in the mouth and there were little flashes of equivalent culinary brilliance throughout the meal. Our wine choices were delivered with explanatory comments by our sommelier and even though by no means the dearest on the list, were still of excellent quality. The quality of this restaurant is not so much in fireworks or flamboyance, but rather in absolute mastery of the orchestration of a meal from start to finish. Add this to the quality of the meal you eat, not in individual course consideration, but in cumulative total, and what you have is a restaurant experience as near perfect as you are ever likely to encounter. This is dining as it is meant to be and I absolutely get why Restaurant Patrick Gibaud holds the acolades it does.
Underwhelming
Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud charges 2 Michelin star prices but does not deliver food or service to match these astronomical prices. Like β¬150 for a subpar 3 course meal. There was nothing special about any of those courses (scallops starter, duck main course served with watery mash potatoes and sponge drenched in rum for dessert) that I havenβt eaten in a decent restaurant, let alone in a 2 star one. Nothing imaginative or creative going on with any of the dishes myself or my husband had. The wine list is also ridiculously priced, the cheapest bottles being around β¬100/β¬120. Service was underwhelming, weβve been to many Michelin starred restaurants but have never been treated with a mild but noticeable air of condescension like in RPG. The Dublin restaurant scene needs a big kick up the backside if this is one of their best and can get away with charging astronomical prices for subpar quality. To be fair half the tables were empty on a Saturday night so maybe they donβtβ¦

Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate |
Yes unfortunately they are finding more and more ways to lock up sellers money. Sell thru rate, refund rate, limiting withdrawal amounts ler day and per month (which for me are the same number which makes no sense). Lot of sellers leaving as you can see from the lifetime sales not really increasing. Most posts on here are frustrated sellers which is not a recipe for success

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venueβs rankings & sales.

Working on your bid? |
Your bid has been βmatchedβ with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted. |
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from? |
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered? |
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
Reservation transfer issue
Purchased double chicken please for two hours from now and no response from Appointment Trader regarding my name transfer request which I paid for yesterday. I believe the original reservation holder is a bot as it seems like it when i tried contacting directly. Do I have any recourse if they wonβt let me in the restaurant?
