The Turkish eggs and espresso martini exceed the hype.
The menu is small but excellently curated

This place is legit!! Me and the bestie needed a chill place to talk and catch up on life, after having brunch at a very lively restaurant..so we looked for a nearby coffee shop-like spot, and we turned to trust-y ole yelp. Residents cafe was already bookmarked on my list, I made a quick reservation and we were quickly seated. The service was spectacular..and attentive, and our server made excellent recommendations. I would describe as a modern kinda-hipster like spot..with cozy nooks and a heated outdoor cove. We only enjoyed drinks, even though our full intention was to have dessert..but their dessert option was not extensive, and my friend does not eat dairy, so it was a "pass" for us. My bestie enjoyed her Mandarin mocktail, and I enjoyed both espresso martini and latte. I look forward to trying out the food... Highly recommend!

Great ambiance, tasty cocktails, beautiful outdoor dining area,so cozy. Not 5 stars, as the food was tiny bit disappointing, I had better. But overall if you are coming for good time and light snacks with friends or a date, I would highly recommend!

This place is great for drinks! As a vegetarian I do not think it was the best for food but the ambience is phenomenal. I definitely recommend making a reservation here as there are not many seats inside and it gets very busy very quickly. The attention to details on the drinks was what stood out to me the most. One of my favorite drinks there has ice that is in the imprint/shape of bees wax which I think is very unique!

I am not sure why but whenever I plan to meet someone for the first time in DC I can only think of Residents. Probably because Residents is in the heart of DC but it is more than that of course. The drinks here are remarkable which is a testament to how skilled the bartenders here are. Everything from the flavor to the garnishing of the drinks is just perfect. I have had almost all of their seasonal cocktails and they do not disappoint at all. Food is amazing here as well. Mind you, quality over quantity is focused so you might not feel full by any means but everything from the croquettes to the grilled octopus is wonderful. The service is amazing and everyone from the hosts to the rest of the staff is amazing. The ambiance is lively, rustic and floral which I guess is the hip thing these days. It is a total experience that everyone should must have. 4.5/5
Be the first to ReplyThis will become one of my go to brunch spots going forward.
Simple menus with a diverse amount of options, nice staff, and diverse types of drinks. This was my first time at Residents and I went during brunch. I had the chicken sandwich and my date had the burger. Both were flavorful and came out with a nice presentation. Of course an espresso martini was ordered and it was blended well.

Visited residents in dupont when i was catching up with a friend visiting town. Great place! We walked in around noon (no reservation) and were seated immediately. Our waitress was lovely and very attentive and the food was amazing! It was extremely flavorful and I really enjoyed the artichoke. The drinks were delightfully strong LOL, they were delicious too! There is a lot of cute seasonal decor in the seating area and it's a great place for conversation (no blaring loud music). I will say that the bathroom is a little bit scary to get to (steel stairs down into a dark basement lol) after a few drinks, so be careful and hold the railing!

My server didn't ask me if I was done with my food before she took it away. She also didn't ask me or my boyfriend if we were done with our drinks before she took them away. I think that's really weird considering we each had more than a sip left of our drinks left. I wanted to finish my food and my drink... Also worth mentioning: this was for Valentines dinner which we got reservations for well in advance (mid-January) yet we were seated on bar stools in the corner next to the bar... wouldn't have thought too hard about this except this is the second time I've eaten here and they put us in the exact same location the first time and the heated patio is what was advertised for the valentines dinner. Would've enjoyed sitting in the heated patio where the ambiance is much better, especially considering how early in advance we booked it.

Dropped by with a friend as this spot has been on my list to visit for a while. Unfortunately, I was disappointed as it had really been hyped up on social media. The bartender seemed to me new. She made my friends tequila and soda and then added ice at the end, leading the drink to overflow. My friend said the drink tasted only of soda, likely because a lot of the liquor spilled out of the glass. I had the espresso martini. It was mediocre, a little go bitter for my preference. The fries were tasty. The establishment was aesthetically pleasing and would be great for pictures. I don't believe that I would return.
Be the first to ReplyA really great spot for brunch with friends.
Highly recommend it for the vibes and the ambience. Service was great too and really quick. Everything we got tasted amazing.

A very Instagram worthy restaurant! They decked it all out for cherry blossom season and have created a great outdoor dining area, with heat lamps. We went for brunch / lunch and the food was amazing. Attentive and kind service. We didn't try any cocktails so we'll definitely be going back.
Be the first to ReplyLoved everything about this place.
It's so cute, cocktails were amazing, and so was the food! Service: shoutout to Maria! Hands down of the best waitresses I've ever had. She memorized my allergies before I arrived which rarely happens. This means so much to me! I definitely tipped on top of the tip. She made recommendations based on my allergies without me having to ask and told me what could and could not be substituted. She was prepared and that goes a long way! Definitely date and girls night out worthy So thanks residents for a good time but mostly thank you Maria.

Food, Service, and Ambiance = Residents Cafe & Bar! Are you seeking a restaurant that offers a cute seasonal theme, delicious food and mouth-watering drinks? If so, book Residents now! Reservations are slim with this venue! A girlfriend and I stopped in (with a reservation of course) for drinks and small bites and were blown away with the flavors of our selections. We shared the *MINI GYROS* & *OXTAIL CROQUETTES* The oxtail croquettes had me at first bite. My tastebuds were in tastebud heaven with the crunchiness of the cornflakes. The texture and seasoning of the oxtail was sensational. Though "mini" in size, the gyros packed in huge flavor as well. For drinks we had the PEAR which was fruity and light and we had the HABANERO which had a flirty heat to it that hid the smokiness of the mezcal very well. Not pictured were the Espresso martinis we indulged in and well iykyk ;-)All in all, Residents DC will continue to get my reservation! 10/10 highly recommend!

Wife and I were in town for the half marathon and found this place for dinner. Hands down one of the best meals we've had so far. Food was amazing, we had the steak tartare, oxtail croquettes and the roasted chicken and everything was cooked or prepared perfectly. The drinks were absolutely phenomenal. My wife got the Bee #3 and it was her favorite cocktail she's ever had. The mandarin, the habanero and espresso martini were all delicious too.The service was great, the waiter was prompt, polite and attentive but not intrusive or overbearing and gave a great drink recommendation. The casual and comfortable ambiance and atmosphere was exactly what we look for in a restaurant.Would recommend this place to anyone and will definitely come back when in the area next

The decor here is amazing and changes depending on the season. The menu is absolute perfection- not too expensive and the food is unique but doesn't push the boundaries too far. The staff was so incredibly nice and attentive. Make sure to make reservations in advance they can book up in advance !
Be the first to ReplyI would barely call this place mediocre.
I came here with a girlfriend on a Thursday night. First of all parking is a nightmare, I don't think I'm coming to any more restaurants in DC unless they offer valet. The parking meter was broken so I ended up getting a parking ticket. We arrived early for our reservation but luckily they sat us anyway (at a tiny high top table that can barely accommodate a glass of water much less dinner plates). We started with cocktails (cosmo martini and margarita) which were good. Then we ordered the mini gyros, cauliflower nuggets and bowl of fries. No major complaints about any of them but I didn't enjoy the cauliflower as it was too sweet. The fries were good but I mean it's not that hard to mess up fries. The mini gyros were good I can give them that. We had profiteroles for dessert, they were good but again, nothing that blew my mind. About 90 minutes into our reservation our server tells us we have "30 mins until the end of our reservation." Ummm what? So we are time capped? And then on top of that for a party of 2 they charge an automatic 20% gratuity! There was much left to be desired and I won't be back.
Be the first to ReplyThis place was really amazing.
It's very small on the inside, but they have an out door patio as well. I came in the middle of winter (end of December) and it was pretty chilly out there, but it wasn't unbearable. You are definitely fine out there if you bring a coat. They had lots of heaters going, so it really wasn't too bad. They are known for their cocktails, but had amazing appetizers too. The drinks are fancy and pretty pricey, but they were super high quality. Each drink we ordered came out looking like a work of art, you can tell each one of them is hand crafted. I was a huge fan of this place and really want to go back the next time I'm in DC.
Be the first to ReplyI've had espresso martinis before, and never really liked
I've had espresso martinis before, and never really liked them, did not get the hype. But here every sip I took I just had to say "wow this is so good!" It was like that the whole night! The cauliflower nuggets were so yummy, there was one or two that weren't fully cooked but that's OK for me, still 10 out of 10. The fries were only $10! Compared to everything else on the menu it felt the most reasonable. The sauce Please don't sleep on the chicken! I feel like the chicken often gets overlooked at places like this but when in reality its one of the best dishes on the menu! The skin was so crispy and the chicken was so juicy! And the carrots were perfect i wanted more! The Bolognese great, but I've had great Bolognese before. I'm so sad we didn't have enough room for dessert. We came for our anniversary and they really made it feel special for us. Previous birthdays/anniversaries we've gone to nice restaurants and they haven't done anything or acknowledged it, which is really disappointing. Residents congratulated us on our anniversary and were very kind to us. Thank you to all the staff and management!

A tasty restaurant in DuPont Circle! We went on a packed Sunday night, and the location was beautiful. The stairs are a little uneven with a few raised platforms, so be careful if you struggle with stairs. The noise level was extremely high, and the music being played didn't help. I prefer a quieter atmosphere, but for people who like to be in the middle of the action, this is good! Our server was very kind, but service was extremely slow. If you're in a rush, I'd encourage you to announce that early and don't wait for service to come to you. The food is great! The roast chicken was succulent and perfectly cooked. The bolognese was hearty, and the cauliflower appetizer was crunchy and had a great sauce! None of the meals were sufficient for the price point, so you may leave the restaurant a bit hungry. Overall, I enjoyed the night! I probably wouldn't go back, but I certainly wouldn't say no if someone offered to treat me :)
Be the first to ReplyI first came here during the summer when I first moved to D.
C. for drinks and was underwhelmed. However, I recently showed up for brunch and was blown away by the quality of food and the attention to detail and kindness from the staff. Our group ordered lattes/cappuccino and lemme tell you... these were GOOD and better than most coffee shops. Ordered the Turkish eggs with halloumi and French toast bites which were all so delicious. The Turkish eggs seasoning and labneh were great, although the pita was a bit difficult to cut (I ended up just ripping with my hands). The French toast bites were so crispy on the outside and gooey in the inside paired with this rich sweet caramel sauce. Can't recommend this place enough for brunch!

Loved the outdoor seating, very cute and cozy with upscale boho vibes. My server was quick and attentive. Food was plated nicely and tasted great. Loved the pasta. Dishes are unique. I wish they had a more extensive mocktail offering, but I enjoyed my Mandarin regardless. Thought the portions were just right.
Be the first to ReplyCame in for brunch with a friend.
We sat inside but want to come back and sit on the patio, it was so pretty. Our server was helpful and attentive without hovering. We had a great brunch and will definitely be back.
Be the first to ReplyLet me say upfront, I'm biased by places that celebrate
Let me say upfront, I'm biased by places that celebrate Sakura (cherry blossoms) and occasionally may go to a restaurant just as much for the pretty visuals as the yelp praise Ohhhh and in even more transparency (I mean protect the birds from my clarity), this visit was a first date that included a surprise third wheel who happened to walk on four legs. Given the foregoing... this rendezvous et trois (well 2.25) should have been doomed... but instead, Residents' residents saved the day (but couldn't resuscitate the date - they're not those kinda of residents tho )As with almost any place, I would love more gluten free options but... I was able to have cheesecake so I shall not complain. Due to my fickle, hating stomach my options were limited to fish...I was not expecting a head on the fish (first date remember) and... whole fish is meant to be wellllllll seasoned (island girl big up) but I made it work. The menu rotates, but I surmise that most of the offerings are good because the cocktails are divine. Yes...I know two different parts of the restaurant are responsible but establishments with well-appointed drinks usually go with well crafted food IMO So here's where, beyond the Sakura decor (yes I'm obsessed) , Residents gets it perfect... the staff is hip, but not pretentious and that's a hard combo to achieve. I was just as comfortable having a laugh about the discomfort of first dates and taking ordering recommendations. I'm pretty sure it's a general "feel," not just who I encountered because my four legged new companion was definitely loved on like he belonged - tho he may have been a bit unprepared for all the stimuli. The stairs are a potential death trap if you drink as much as the sultry vibes inside just scream you should. Beyond that....my experience as a Residents' resident was perfectly resplendent (remember my caveats and don't blame me if yours is merely splendid ) Bonus: who doesn't like a nice bathroom mirror

Been here a couple times, most recently for drinksPros: Very cute ambiance, lots of plants outside, boho type of feel. Solid drink menu and craft cocktails. Good food menu. Cons: not as great service. Not a very pleasant waitress. Got seated, and got our drinks and were instantly asked to close out because "something happened in the kitchen" and they had to close the restaurant. I get that! They are $17 drinks before tip and tax, if they needed us out right away they should comp them. They did not physically kick us out immediately after but packed up everything around us, asked to take our glasses before they were done, and were rather impolite about it. If there was an emergency I get getting people out, but it was not handled very well. Still giving 4 stars because it's worth checking out. Keep in mind, pretty expensive so maybe for a special occasion or a stop in vs a full meal.

My foodie friend was visiting and I had a list of places I wanted to try and send them to him. He picked Residents. First and foremost the decor and aesthetic is super cute. Lovely outdoor seating area and inside was really nice as well. Customer service was excellent and our waitress gave really good recommendations for drinks. Then drinks are really one of kind, you won't find these anywhere else. The food was amazing. The mini gyros (lamb) and bowl of fries (10 spice seasoning) were fantastic. The filet was also very good. I am still trying to decide how I felt about the bone marrow sauce, it is very distinctive and I think it paired well with the filet. My friend had the crab and summer veg salad he said it was fantastic and he doesn't even like peaches. He also had the charred octopus which he said was amazing. Check this place out!
