Great Italian!
This is a lovely, busy, noisy in a great way place Very friendly and knowledgeable staff, who seem to know just the way to interact with their patrons. We arrived at 7.15, mid week and the place was full. We were quickly shown to our table with a waiter who was so helpful in dealing with my wifeโs dietary requirements. Minor amendments to her order and she was very well catered for. Anchovy on gf toast, that she said was the best gf bread sheโd ever had followed by gf pasta with her scallop main. My croquette followed by the pairs sausage pasta was also enjoyable. Our wine waiter was equally on top of the Italian dominated wine list This is a lovely casual Italian restaurant, where even though we were I suspect double the age of the next oldest person there was great!
Be the first to ReplyAn unexpectedly excellent Mother's Day lunch
My wife and I visited Ragazzi on a whim on Motherโs Day because I was dying to try their spaghetti cacio e pepe. Instead, we were offered a fixed price Motherโs Day lunch menu. It was cold outside and warm inside, so we stayed. I so glad we did because the innovative, 7 course menu by Chef Gabriel was outstanding, as was the service by the most friendly staff. I can honestly say it was one on the best lunches Iโve had in Sydney. My two favourite dishes were the lamb tartare with pistachio, capers and yoghurt damper and the ricotta agnolotti with pickled walnut and purple elk. I hope both become regular items on Ragazzi's a la carte menu. The chef kindy signed the menu for me, as well. I will be back!
Be the first to ReplyMemorable meal as good as Italy
We had a very memorable supper here while on holiday in Sydney. The location and restaurant itself make you feel like you stumbled upon a little gem and indeed you did. The service was excellent and the man that waited on our table knew everything about the menu, the wine, and was very charming. We had two pasta dishes including the Spaghetti cacio e pepe and Trottole with sausage (our fave) as well as the croquettes and Kingfish crudo (another fave). Highly recommend making a reservation and visiting.

The best pasta and sauce me and my girlfriend have ever had, small portions but we both felt satisfied after. An unbelievable combination of flavours and the wine was also delicious. We then tried the gelato and we both were in awe! Highly recommend!! Service very good also, we did not book and they fitted us in with just a half an hour wait on a busy bank holiday evening!
Be the first to ReplyFood decent, small in portion size, ask for pricing before ordering.
Disappointing second visit. Portions are very small for the price. Scallops are $16 each. Good but so overpriced. We were upsold on a red wine by the glass to over $30 for a questionable 4 oz pour. Ask for the price on their wine by the glass suggestions. We could have had a bottle for less. They did not bring my ordered white wine, so we cancelled the order. Disappointed in our service this visit so wonโt return.
Be the first to ReplySuperb pasta.
Truly great pasta. Perfectly cooked with deliciously flavoured sauces. Itโs a small lively and friendly place. If it was in London I would be a regular customer.
Be the first to ReplyStumbled across this place for a late lunch
This was a fantastic lunch. Venue is small so recommend booking a table. Menu is small but we could have chosen any one of the dishes without issue. Service was friendly and prompt and the food was outstanding. Each dish seemed to be better than the one before it. The pasta is so fresh and flavoursome. Congratulations to the whole team on providing great food at reasonable city prices.
Be the first to ReplyGreat as always
The most delicious pasta preceded by fabulous starters to share. Be sure to have the anchovy toasts which are amazing. I always return to this fab little restaurant every time in Sydney and bring friends who love it too.
Be the first to ReplySuper average and expensive
This was my second attempt at Ragazzi.... my first experience was average but considering a friend wanted to try it I just went along with it .... what a mistake. Watered down cocktails to start. Very small piece of bread with one single anchovy and butter $8 each. Ridiculous. The waiter recommended an Italian rose which had a chlorine after taste. Super small pasta dishes - with no flavour. We had to ask for salt, pepper, chilli and parmesan just to get some flavour!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Super expensive. Average service and no flavour. Do yourself a favour and go up to Tottis around the corner - great food and wine.
Be the first to ReplyUneven at best or unfriendly at worst
Uneven at best--unfriendly at worst I have been there twice this week and the second visit was cut short. Went there on Sunday and was greeted by a welcoming host, friendly bartender, and enjoyed a great dish of pasta. The chef is inventive and provides some interesting twist on Italian cuisine, the wine list is off the beaten path but worth the adventure to pair the food on the menu. The second visit was the polar opposite so I averaged a five and one for the rating. I greeted the host when I entered and proceeded to one of two open bar stools after greeting the same bartender I met a few days earlier. We discussed the red wine special which was a nice Calabrian suggestion. A few minutes later the real hostess not the guy playing with the Ipad at the front door approached me and told me that I would have to leave after I finished my wine because the bar stools were booked for a party of two. Not the best way to handle this situation, how about "why don't you finish your wine and let me see if we can get you seated for dinner, or why don't you sit outside for a bit and let me see if we can fit you in, or why don't you come back in 30 minutes and I will have a seat for you, or let me check with one of our restaurants and get you a booking." Another approach could be I am sorry for the misunderstanding--the bar stools aren't first come so let me comp you the wine and I hope you come back. If they are trying to make folks feel unwelcome they are doing a fantastic job.
Be the first to ReplyUnderwhelmed!
Limited menu offering, restaurant had a sense of urgency and haste. Ambience was quirky, compact, seating approximately 40 guests at tables and 15 around the bar. Lacking presentation and care for entree and main, dessert presented well, didn't feel comfortable with barman sampling wine from purchased bottle - that is for the customer! Inappropriate and unprofessional for barman to have shots during service.
Be the first to ReplyUndercooked Pasta is a Sin
Possibly the most disappointing dinner of the trip. First we ordered a bottle of Barolo Riserva for $130. The bottle that came was not a riserva and likely should have been half to 2/3 the cost. When brought to their attention rather than reducing to the correct price, they offered to just charge us for 2 glasses and take back the rest of the bottle. What they charged us turned out to be at the same incorrect price (half of the incorrect $130).
Then we get 3 pasta courses of which only one was cooked well. I like my pasta very al dente but what we got was totally undercooked and grainy in texture as undercooked pasta is. For a pasta specialty restaurant this is particularly disappointing. Also, the tartare that we got was runny and sour as if they added a big dose of vinegar.
In addition, because the restaurant had no space for a waiting area everyone who is waiting for a reservation had to wait in the (really) cold weather outside. With their outdoor tables and heat lamps they could have turned them on to keep their waiting guests a little more comfortable.
So to conclude I feel we got ripped off on the wine which is a service deficiency with the food being substandard. Iโm surprised this restaurant commands the 4+ stars with so many good reviews. With all the dificiencies I canโt imagine they were only having an off night or that we just happened to get poorly cooked food.
Best authentic pasta
Be sure to find Ragazzi - a small almost hole in the wall restaurant serving regional (?) Italian dishes. The produce is wonderfully presented and just delicious. The cosy atmosphere is perfect for a date night or an after work meal. Some exciting and different wines to try by the glass to match with your food! Delizioso!

We picked this place because it was featured in a number articles rating the top places to eat in the CBD.
Unfortunately it did not live up to expectations. It is close to the worst Italian food we have ever had.
We had the anchovy entree which was 1/2 a slice of bread and 1 anchovy. The burrata was nice but needed bread which arrived after we finished our main?
The pasta mains were very ordinary with tough pasta and really ordinary sauce and relatively small servings. Men would still be hungry.
Popular with lovely food and wine
Located in a popular laneway with cosy indoor and outdoor tables. Good for couples or groups up to 4 people. We sat at the bar and had a constant steam or great Italian wine and small dishes. Friendly fun staff. Delightful pasta

Best pasta in the city, my wife and I ordered two pasta to shared and we loved them both. The burrata was also very delicious. Service was wonderful and they had a really nice and romantic vibe
Be the first to ReplyDon't believe the hype!
We excitedly booked this restaurant before the opera based on AGFG review. 1 of our 4 dishes was good (the pasta). The others were terrible. Service was non-existent. We received a leaf salad with leaves about the size of a dinner plate coated in dressing, and no utensils with which to make them smaller. That doesn't work well with opera attire. Overpriced, noisy, and a wine list that only includes Italian wines. I know it's an Italian restaurant, but please - I think Aussies know a thing or two (more than Italians) about making wine. We reluctantly ordered one of the pricier wines, only to be disappointed. Will not be back unless we hear of a change of management.

Always Great
So recommend this place, for ambience, food is amazing and their choice of staff is of the highest order.
Pleasure to recommend
Disgusting (but polite and understanding)
Since itโs an open kitchen, I had the pleasure of seeing one of the chefs repeatedly sticking a spoon (and his hand) in his mouth and back again in the dish he was cooking.
When I brought it up to the manager, he politely explained that he understood where I was coming from and that heโd understand if I didnโt feel comfortable to eat there and decided to leave.
At least he was understanding I guess.
Great pasta, really expensive
Really good pasta here with some very flavoursome sauces (the sausage one was divine). Sure it's very expensive for rather small serves but I've been to a few overpriced pasta bars around the city and Surry Hills and this was by far the best.
