The food was absolutely fantastic! So creative! We had the slab of bacon with peanut butter & jalapeno / apple (what a combo!), the corn brulee (I'd love a vat), and crispy fries as sides and appetizers. The fries were too soggy, but the waiter sweetly offered to remove from the bill. Props, too, for the brioche bread and best butter on the planet, and yummy cocktails. For entree, I had the 3 filet mignons with the special sauces (the peppercorn especially was heaven -- but beware, they charge the double PP price, even when you swear only you will be eating it, so it's a staggering $130!), and my friend ordered the Tomahawk ribeye with the dinosaur bone. HIS steak was really one of the most delicious i've ever tasted, and what a jaw-dropping image, with the giant bone. For dessert, my friend got a complimentary Toffee pudding with handmade ice cream since it was his birthday, absolutely incredible .... Our waiter was lovely, very attentive, with great recommendations. But while we waited for a table, I also asked the bartender (who recommended the bacon appetizer) and a waiter working the cabins outside (who lobbied for the ribeye) ....The industrial decor is very cool, but OMG, it is super loud in there with all the big tables full of revelers, you can barely hear your companion talk. Still, it was festive, and you kinda ask for it when you go to a popular restaurant. (BTW, hit the bathroom. Love the C Bigelow hand lotion! And cloth towels) .... The only snafu -- and it was not a small one, to put it mildly -- is that I wrote on the Open Table reservation that it was my friend's 70th birthday and that we needed a "nice" table. It was a 6:30 pm reservation on a Wednesday in winter, and though the place was hopping, there were at least 4 or 5 empty tables. Well, they assigned us the table right next to the kitchen, and the maitre d' claimed the other empties were "reserved" (though they continued to remain unoccupied for at least an hour). I think if I hadn't thrown a fit with my very big Greek Brooklyn voice, by the kitchen we would have sat. It took almost an hour to finally get a table, with something of an attitude from the maitre d' - and it was an empty table that I had originally pointed out! (I suspect we landed it, finally, because the manager got involved.) .... This stress was totally unnecessary. We were the oldest people in the restaurant, and a 70th birthday is very special. Have some respect. It started what should have been a very happy occasion on a very bad note, and it wasn't until our entrees arrived that I was able to calm down enough to enjoy .... Anyway, the food was special, and almost made up for it. I recommend not just placing a reservation on Open Table - even with a note - but calling ahead at least twice to make sure that you get assigned a decent table if it's a special event. Placing a birthday man at his age by the kitchen was insulting, and frankly, unforgivable - especially after I objected. I shouldn't have to turn into Attila the Hun for a basic, obvious accommodation, especially when it was easily possible .... PS- There are outdoor, heated, private, wood cabins in the front that looked wonderful, perfect for a romantic or private meal. We wanted to get the full restaurant experience since it was our first visit, but I recommend you consider them for a special adventure.
