I really enjoyed my dinner here on a random night where I walked in solo without a reservation and was seated immediately. the place was across the street from my hotel so it was very convenient. i got the olives to start and the cod for my main dish and it was genuinely 5/5. it came with crusted potatoes and cooked spinach that was a perfect combination. the place inside is also very cute and i sat in front of the window so i could see the passerbys. bermondsey st was my favorite street in my trip to london and the church across the street from this place was beautiful to look at as well.

Came for a celebratory work lunch and Pizarro did not disappoint. We went w the ยฃ70 set menu which featured flavour upon flavour. highlights include the opening Jamon 100% 5J acorn fed which was thin and packed a punch, classic pan con tomate which was generously portioned without the bread getting too soggy, a lobster salad w veg vinaigrette - so lux and a lovely citrus counterpoint, with the grilled cuttlefish in creamy potato a revelation. I'm still salivating, it was almost religious, and those were just the starters! Of the two mains, the medal goes to the iberico pork - it was truly an homage to a gorgeous animal, and then rounding on the final bend, I loved the lettuce salad with pine nuts shallots and lemon dressing. Only complaint was the single choice of cheesecake for dessert, it would have been nice to have a non dairy option.

Very accommodating for 1 person on a Friday night without a reservation. Excellent food and wine. Nice ambiance.

We had an excellent dinner and would return to try more dishes. The grilled squid was a revelation. Buttery. Cut up like little pasta. The gem lettuces provided great crunch and contrast. The desserts were disappointing for a restaurant of this caliber so advise skipping dessert.
Be the first to ReplyBread.
Yup. Their bread was life changing. I would lobby any gluten free person to take the risk for how damn delicious is. I could have probably stopped at a quality bottle of wine + their bread and olive oil. But my sustenance needs leaned into more. I could eat a pile of their serrano ham all night. Damn that was good. The blue belly prawns were super unique and unlike anything I've had. Then the Iberico pork had the moment it rightly deserved. Perfectly cooked with all the maldon sea salt it warranted. Everything was just perfection. I cannot wait to venture back, dive back in and enjoy the fruits of Pizarro's bounty.

I heard good things about Pizarro and decided to try it as I live in the area. Frankly, I am puzzled by the number of good reviews here: the food was extremely average at best. The mushroom rice was bland and had raw champignons chopped up on top, making it look cheap (which, sadly, it wasn't). The roast chicken was, indeed, a tiny roasted whole chicken - a lot of bone and not a lot of meat, though it was reasonably tasty. The ink squid starter became baby squid in potato cream as the waiter confused our order. The only part of our order we did enjoy was the wine, which, priced at ยฃ49, was excellent. Overall, we paid ยฃ117 for not much, very average food with the wine just about salvaging the experience from being an expensive disaster. Sorry, Pizarro, but we won't be coming back.
Be the first to ReplyGood quality Spanish products but really overpriced.
ย Wine sold at 5x markup instead of usual 4x. ย Mains are at least ยฃ26/head (the ones meant for sharing are double that price or more!!). ย Nice and varied Spanish wine list.
Be the first to ReplyVery expensive and poor menu.
They don't have Sangria, potatos or eggs.

Visiting with friends from San Francisco, we were looking for a fantastic restaurant to celebrate a friend's 28th wedding anniversary. With high expectations and having eaten well throughout London, we were seeking a special place. ย Pizarro's did it not disappoint! The restaurant is charming with brick walls, great art and an exposed, hopping kitchen. We started with several small plates - padron peppers, croquetas, and Bermondey Bomba [spiced beef, potatoes and tomatoes] and each dish was more scrumptious then the next. After a lengthy internal debate of which main to select, I opted for the monkfish a la placha. I am not a big fish fan, but this dish was spectacular. One of the best I have ever had - was sad to eat the last bite. I got similar reviews from others at the table on the lamb, butternut squash and Norwegian cod.We all agreed this meal was the highlight of the vacation and I would certainly book in again when travelling through London. [Fingers crossed the monkfish is on the menu.] A friend gave me a tip to try it and I looked like a hero to my group. Be a hero, go to Pizarro. Thanks for the hospitality, Jose!
Be the first to ReplyLovely tapas place.
I had the pleasure of meeting Jose Pizarro on the day we went. The food is something else. Amazing wine menu. Worth visiting
Be the first to ReplyThis is one of my favorite restaurants in the world.
ย The Presa Ibรฉrica is fantastic and the service could not be any better. ย I only get there once every six months and the always remember me. ย I make this a stop every time I am in London and highly recommend it.

Came here for a quick bite before a more formal dinner down the street at Bermondsey Yard Cafe. I got a tiojito which is lemonade and sherry - very refreshing and nice and not too alcoholic which was nice. We shared one small plate (chicory with goats cheese and figs) and dessert (poached pears in Rioja and saffron ice cream); both were delicious and we wish we could try more without feeling bad about ruining the impending meal. Esp for those who are turned away at the busier Jose down the street, Pizarro is an intimate alternative with great food and drink options

Smart tapas, flatteringly dim lighting, sophisticated ambience, with the option to book a private room. We were dining in such a room, and I can assure you that we were well looked after. We had a set menu of which we chose the main course in advance with set starters and pudding.Starters were varied, from bruschetta to cheesy mushrooms in batter. I enjoyed them. Esp the mushrooms. As for the mains, I remembered, too late, some advice from a chef acquaintance: never order steak as a large group (i.e. more than four). How true.In our party of 10, the majority of us ordered steak and I for one was disappointed by the chewiness. Dessert was choc mousse with a shortbread. This wasn't too sweet, which I appreciated, but it also wasn't exceptional. And the large shortbread plonked in was rather heavy after such a big meal. All in all? The food gets 3/5, ambience and service 5/5. Averaging a solid 4/5.

Not kidding, the iberico pork was the best piece of meat I've eaten... Ever. ย Yes, ever!
Be the first to ReplyFood is not bad but the service is just poor and so slow.
A simple salad took 45 mins to take when there were only 3 tables occupied. I asked had to ask for the check a few times before I it was brought to the table. Given they have such a simplistic menu it surprises me that they are so slow.
