Pine and Crane Los Angeles Reviews from The Last Year
I don't really understand the hype of this place.
Food was very mediocre. Dining experience is kinda hectic.
The food here is always top quality.
The line is long , but tends to go pretty fast. We have tried pretty much the whole menu. Every item is delicious, well balanced and has its own unique flavor. One thing missing is dessert.
We had beef roll, jidori chicken, wonton noodle soup, and
We had beef roll, jidori chicken, wonton noodle soup, and dan dan noodle (no pic for dan dan). All dishes had so much flavors. And the servers are amazing.
Won Ton Noodles and an IPA.
Definitely one of my favorite meals here in Silverlake. Also, the gentlemen taking orders hooked it up with free seaweed during my first visit. Muy amable! Very homie service, quick as well.

I loved the concept of the place, it was nicely decorated and quick and friendly service! Prices were fair for the location and it did taste like authentic Taiwanese food which I appreciate.

The food was mediocre at best, the portions were skimpy and the pork buns + potstickers were not steamed/cooked thoroughly, there was raw meat still on the inside which led to my brother getting sick. Service was also okay, nothing exceptional. If you're going to try Pine and Crane visit the location in DTLA, way better atmosphere, sitting situation, and the food quality is consistent.

This was an absolutely cool spot in Silverlake! I was really excited to try their offerings. And the vegan Mapo tofu filled with mushrooms and great flavor was absolutely delicious. The vegan noodles had a nice creamy peanut sauce. Protip: If you like spicy, add some of the table side chili oil to elevate the flavor! We also tried the smashed spicy cucumber salad, which was super fresh and vibrant. I'm excited to come back to try more of their menu ! Fast service and nice folks working there :)

Taiwanese pride here !!!!! I'm so happy there's a Taiwanese place in hipster area - the food over is pretty good but I'm bias bc I'm from Taiwan. The flavors are defo cater to Americans - slightly sweet . Mapo Tofu I found it missing the Ma 麻 so I added a lot of the chilly flakes but it is salty and "flavored" just not the same as back home The spring onion pancake is thick and not as much layers of crispness as the OG in Taiwan. The services are fast eventho there was a line. My favorite is the lotus roots which I know it's with sugar but this taste like home.
Five stars all-around.
From the friendly waiter, cashier, and bussers, to the communal-seating--Pine and Crane is a worthwhile experience. I came with two friends back-to-back to get a thorough dining experience, so here's what we ate and what I think you should definitely try! The Minced Pork and Rice: The best (and ironically, lowest-priced) item on the dinner menu. Minced pork, rice, hard boiled egg, daikon pickles in sesame oil. I could eat this every night! Three-Cup Jidori Chicken--Great dish, but beware--it is garlicky, as in there are literal garlic cloves in it. Other than that, you get an abundance of dark chicken meat and rice in sesame oil. You'll be stuffed to the rim and happy! Deep-fried Pork Buns: Just what one would expect: doughy, meaty goodness. You get eight of them, too! Both my friends got the apple soda, which they said was fantastic! Pine and Crane is the perfect spot for a date-night, dinner with friends, over even when treating yourself out. Highly recommend this place--delicious, lively, unforgettable dining experience.

Maybe I just had higher expectations but the food wasn't worth the hype. We had the pork buns, Dan Dan and Jidori chicken.

Amazing service, from the minute we walked in the door, we were welcomed and greeted, and helped by one of the server who quickly came over to go behind the counter to get ready to help us. He recommended some great items from the menu. Loved the super casual vibe and excellent, delicious dishes. Also, the best taro tea I've ever had. It even had real taro bits and chunks. Highly recommended!

I usually love grabbing lunch/dinner here by myself and the service is always so kind, again usually! I came last night with my partner, and service was pretty standard except for one of the female servers who acted like my partner wasn't even there, con cara de mal cogida (you can look that up, but basically with the most unpleasant expression) which was strange seeing the way she was extremely friendly interacting with other guests, she only made eye contact and spoke to me but I'm more white passing than my partner. Regardless he had never been there before, and it was pretty annoying and embarrassing having her not greet him, make eye contact with him, etc. We got to sit, order, and once our food came he asked the same worker if he could have a fork, and just replied "suuure" as if it was a hassle to just do her job, and then never came back to us. I didn't think it was a big deal because I saw there were forks you could grab, which I didn't even realize either. It was like as soon as I stood up to walk over to the utensils she knew, and just watched me do it for myself on purpose, which again is interesting. We finished our food and had left overs, my partner again asked the same woman for a to go container. We continued talking at the table for another 15 minutes, very lucky the conversation was good otherwise I would have been even more annoyed, and as we're talking, the server and I are just now glancing at each other back and forth, as if we didn't just ask for a very quick, easy request that would have taken 5 seconds. It's like, what is this..? How old are you? Again, she never came back to the table and instead checked on every other table (not once did anyone check on our food, how we were doing), hugging guests, laughing with coworkers. That's all fine, but it's just ridiculous when there is an obvious gap in the service you are receiving compared to quite literally the entire room. At last, she was standing right in front of the to go containers talking with her coworker not doing anything, taking peeks at me to see if I was still staring at her, and yes I was, because I literally asked for something? Was I supposed to jump over the counter and grab it myself? Finally I got up to ask her again myself, and when I did I commented "yeah she said she was going to get it" and with her back turned to me replied "yeah sorry about thattttt". Absolutely ridiculous, I replied "twice, thank you" referring to failing to give us the help that *she* offered, twice. I walked away and as I packed my left overs, she and her coworker are obviously talking about what was said and why it was said, and all that tells me is that I was right, there was a very one sided passive aggressive-ness from the other party that I really can't be bothered to understand. Just why even offer the help if you don't mean it, my partner and I both work in food service and I would/have never treated guests like they were inconveniencing me at my *JOB* I don't want to make assumptions, all I will say is that when you're getting that kind of crappy service from a white person while they're perfectly capable of being kind and welcoming to everyone else except us and we're not white, it just looks bad no matter how you try to understand it. Whatever it was, it was weird and unnecessary. Didn't get her name but again ABSOLUTELY ridiculous, she's white, has brunette hair, im assuming she works nights, and wore a claw clip. Have the day you deserve!

Food was amazing and the service was even better, definitely coming back! The ambiance is simple but really cute. Don't sleep on this place

In terms of Asian food in this area, it's a solid 4+, but being real, it's so-so. Still, I eat here all the time--usually delivery, to be fair. The food does hit the spot. However, it's more trendy than homey, and as a result some dishes are much better than others. The beef rolls and pan-fried pork buns are my favorites, in general and from this menu specifically; whereas the beef noodle soup misses a homier touch. The broth doesn't have much richness, and the beef can be tough. The shrimp wontons are also pretty hit or miss, sometimes bland and mushy, other times delicious. I do like their various rice dishes as well, but again, they don't have much homey warmth or complexity. I will say the dandan noodles get rave reviews from everyone I eat here with. However, dandan noodles aren't my jam personally. While this isn't quite a rave review, I do return here over and over, so that says something.

Wow! Came with a friend from Taiwan who made our food and beverage selections. He ordered seven dishes for us to share. Food was authentic Taiwanese cuisine and every dish was great. I wish I could pick a favorite, but from the starters to the soup to the main dishes, absolutely no disappointment. Service was just as good. Attentive and helpful. Seating and the ambiance were also great. Bottom line: awesome food and service. Highly recommend

3.5 stars...I think I had quite high expectations seeing as it had earned a bib gourmand. I think the prices were reasonable, $12 Dan Dan noodles, $15 pork buns. Dan Dan noodles were good, but could use a bit more flavor/salt. Good peanut sauce and the thickness of the generous sauce went well with the noodles. However it doesn't hold a candle to the dan Dan at dough zone or the magic noodle in Las Vegas. The pork bun here was quite disappointing. Extremely thick doughy bun, pork was not flavorful...had to douse it in black vinegar and soy sauce. Very clean place and friendly staff.

this place is so consistently good & affordable i'm convinced this is one of the best asian restaurants in LA. the shrimp wontons have me in a chokehold. i love the fresh apps like the wood-ear mushrooms & the cabbage salad. the eggplant dish is *chef's kiss* always & the beef roll is amazing. i don't even eat meat but trying that roll was worth it lemme tell ya. GREAT wine selection. tea service is amazing. 10/10 vibes & all.

damn, this place pops off! I ordered the wonton soup and the minced pork dish, and I must say, i'm incredibly impressed. these flavors are deff doing something to my spirit lol the only thing I ordered that tastes a little different than usual is the taro boba. I would like it to be a tiny bit sweeter, but other than that, it's still really good! will absolutely be ordering this again!
Dan noodles and ear mushroom were tasty! I would come here
Dan noodles and ear mushroom were tasty! I would come here again! I came on a weekday and it wasn't busy. I would definitely come here again!
Dined here December 1st, 2023 for dinner.
Terrible service. Very rude staff. Not friendly to families. The food was good, but not great. I wouldn't come back.
Good Food & Drinks
It has been awhile since I last visited this place while in DTLA. This Grand Avenue branch is so family friendly and casual yet modern. The food and cocktails were as I remember. Quality food and drinks at reasonable prices. Always order the pan fried buns, Dan Dan noodles, beef roll, and something new the deep fried vegetable & mushroom.
Excellent service, fast, good prices and they provide takeaways containers to self pack
Good food, good prices, good spot, good ambiance, my daughter brought me there and enjoyed the moment with all her friends
Excellent Taiwanese food option
Complex and delicate flavors, although the menu is not extensive, the food is very good. The service is attentive and fast.
Delicious
Restaurant was clean, service was excellent and food was exciting and delicious. We enjoyed our late dinner here. Nice welcoming restaurant.
Lunch spot in silver lake
Very reasonably priced place w counter service. Great for lunch! The V ma po tofu is excellent as are Dan Dan noodles. Lots of other good stuff as well. Great place for a vegan lunch.
Go to Pine and Crane!
Just finished up dinner at Pine and Crane on our last night in Los Angeles. The food is amazing, very soulful and innovative Chinese/Taiwanese fare. The Mapo Tofu with Pork was the standout dish. I've seldom been served by a staff as genuinely joyous as the team at Pine and Crane. It made an already positive experience so much better.

How do you set a timeline for getting your bid accepted? I can’t wait till the actual time I want to go. I want to know at least eight hours ahead of time. How do you do that?
