..I stayed at the Pendry San Diego for an entire week. This is my first time at any of their properties and, overall, my experience was very pleasant, I think this is a great hotel at a very convenient location in the heart of Gaslamp. The staff are friendly and attentive to your needs (the concierge not so much. More on that later), you can tell that they are trained to ensure your experience is smooth from beginning to end.My room was on the 6th floor and I had a great view of the pool, as well as the Gaslamp neighborhood and some of the San Diego skyline. Despite the bustling of activity, this is the first hotel I stay in San Diego where I was able to have a quiet, good night sleep. Most other hotels have poor insulation and you can hear everything from the other rooms. Not this one.The room had a really nice, fully stocked self serving bar, they had a top tray with water, healthy snacks, candy, all kinds of liquor, wine, and even a "pleasure pack" and a "technology pack". The refrigerator had all kinds of juices, beer, and seltzers, conveniently priced, nothing outrageous. However, here's a tip/warning for you: All items on the bar have a sensor that detects if you grab an item. Even if you put it back, you WILL be charged for it. I had only grabbed a couple of items but my son had touched a few items, out of curiosity and I was charged for all of them (I later emailed them and they refunded those charges). They will also charge you a daily "Amenity Fee" of $36 dollars, upon inquiring I was told this fee covers a number of things they offer to you (proof that there is no such thing as a "free" lunch):- Welcome Cocktail (wasn't offered to me but I asked later. It's nothing more than a plastic cup of infused water you pour yourself, they will give you a coupon and then you can go to the bar to get your cup spiked with your favorite spirit)- Wifi- In-room Espresso Machine (they give you two espresso pods and two decaf pods every day)- Morning coffee & tea in Provisional - Access to Fitness Center - Cadillac Ride & Drive Program - UPPAbaby Stroller Program - Sector 9 Skateboard Program - Children's Amenities - Pet Amenities - Use of the business center - Turndown Service upon request - Local Calls - Printing up to 10 pages - Taylor Academy Guitar Stay and Strum Program - Shoe Shine Service - Complimentary PressReader access with over 7,000 newspapers and magazines from around the worldI am not against the $36 fee, but they are not upfront about it, so now you know... Use as many of the services they offer, because you will be charged for them anyway!I also used their spa. It's pricey but I loved it and will definitely use it again. The hotel has quite a few restaurants and bars. I only visited three, with mixed results:Lionfish Restaurant: A must (Look for my review of it)Provisional: Avoid at all costs (Look for my review of it), just go there for your free morning coffeeFifth & Rose bar: Recommended, great for a late night drink. The staff are great too.If you stay at Pendry I highly recommend you visit the "Prohibition" speakeasy (not part of the hotel), just a block and a half away, on 5th St.I feel the hotel's weakest links are the Provisional Restaurant (bad) and their concierge; she was slow to respond and not very attentive, this just based on my limited and interaction with her. The reception staff on the other hand, were awesome.Overall I feel the hotel offers a lot of value for the price and I will definitely stay here again when I come back to San Diego. I also look forward to staying at other Pendry properties in the country to see how they stack up against the San Diego one!Enjoy your stay at The Pendry Hotel.
