Pecan Lodge Dallas Reviews from The Last Year
Pecan lodge is a great place for bbq.
No complaints. Would I go back absolutely? Would I stand in line for more than 15 minutes? Absolutely Not.
Dallasites have strong opinions on local BBQ joints, but in
Dallasites have strong opinions on local BBQ joints, but in my polling Pecan Lodge consistently came up as a top 3 place, and #1 for brisket. As someone whose Dallas BBQ experience til now consisted of Terry Blacks and Lockhart I'd agree with both assessments. What set Pecan Lodge apart, however, was their customer service. My Girlfriend ordered one link of jalapeño cheddar sausage but was told after the order was placed that they'd just run out. Instead of substituting it for a link of standard sausage, they gave us 3 links of standard sausage and tipped the scale on our brisket and pulled pork to give us about 1.25 pounds each instead of 1 pound. The brisket was phenomenal, better than any BBQ place I've ever tried. The sausage was also my favorite ever, and the pulled pork was top notch (But, in my opinion, just behind Terry Blacks). The potato salad was amazing, about equal to Terry Blacks, and the only menu item lacking was the Mac & Cheese, which wasn't anything to write home about. The surrounding neighborhood is awesome too, Deep Ellum has a lot of uniquely Dallas character in a way that other "cute" neighborhoods like Bishop Arts District don't. I'll definitely be back to Pecan Lodge to try more menu items and explore the area!
The best barbecue around town!!! It's worth waiting in line
The best barbecue around town!!! It's worth waiting in line for. I first at their barbecue when they had a spot at the market (downtown Dallas) I've been in love ever since.
Bbq and band was outstanding.
They ran out of ribs so we only had the brisket, sausage and turkey, which was really good. The sides were fantastic. Sometimes the sides at BBQ restaurants aren't very good but there collard greens and potato were on point. They need to add baked beans to the menu.
Had to get some bbq while I was in Dallas and so happy I
Had to get some bbq while I was in Dallas and so happy I got to try Pecan Lodge! It's in a touristy area with lots of shops but surprisingly was not too busy when I got there around lunch time. You go through a line to order and then sit down. It was such a nice day so I had to go for the outdoor seating. They have a lot of tables indoors and outdoors. If you do venture outdoors just beware of birds (I did see a bird pooing on a tree a bit very close to another table ) and some pigeons who are not afraid to come over to try to take your food! The brisket was on the lean and drier side. They offered two types of sauces- one was regular Bbq sauce and the other was a spicy bbq. I really enjoyed the regular bbq with the brisket because the spicy one was slightly too runny. The pork ribs were delicious. Cooked perfectly tender and not too salty, which is what a usually find about bbq places. The sides were also really good! Mac and cheese was creamy and had some small veggies and bacon in it, while the potato salad was hearty and refreshing. Also, the pickles and onions they give on the side were such a refreshing combo with the meat! If you're into peaches, don't miss out on the peach cobbler because it's packed with peach slices. Warm, sweet, and covered with a crumbly crust, this is the definition of comfort food. Prices were to be expected of a well known bbq joint and the portion for sides was very big, so I definitely had some left overs. They have lots of containers to go so you can take them with you to enjoy later! While there aren't servers, there is staff that are very efficient with cleaning up the tables. They did have a parking lot but you have to pay for parking since it is a touristy area. They have lots of shops and other places to look at on the street so it's a fun area to check out in Dallas!
The food here was excellent.
I'm in Dallas for work and it was suggested to me by two different people. You get in line and order, then take a seat, then they'll call your number and name - which was rather loud (and continued throughout my whole dining experience). I ordered a two meat plate with one side and in retrospect it was way too much food; I had pork ribs, brisket, fried okra, pickles, and I ordered a side of peach cobbler. As is a hazard of dining by myself, I had to use the bathroom but wasn't done with my meal, so I left a note saying please don't take the tray. I came back and sure enough, the tray was still there, but all of my food was gone. I had mostly finished what I wanted to eat at that point but I was still working on the cobbler. I went up to the cashier and they were willing to replace everything, but I said I just wanted to finish my cobbler, so they gave me a huge order of it to go. Right before I left the restaurant, I used the restroom again and left the cobbler at the table (not intending on finishing it/bringing it home with me) and sure enough when I got back, I was gone. I guess they're just fast at cleaning tables. The ribs and the brisket were so tender that you didn't really need a fork for them. The ribs were perfectly seasoned as-is, and I tried out both sauces for the brisket. Overall I would come back here if I'm ever in Dallas again, as the food was very good.
Out of 5 different bbq places to try in Dallas within 5
Out of 5 different bbq places to try in Dallas within 5 days, Pecan Lodge is both our favorites!!! Their beef ribs and burnt ends were sold out. Fried okra is a MUST! I said wow, when I ate it lol Brisket, Pork ribs, and Turkey are amazing too! Just everything was at least good to fantastic. Way better than Hutchin's, Soulmans's, Rudy's and Terry Blacks. Apparently our Lyft driver said they love Pecan Lodge and a Lockhart BBQ (specifically Bishop arts district). 3 meat and 1 side $21, can't include beef ribs. - Fried Okra!! I usually don't like fried foods and overly battered fried foods too. But this batter, season was amazing!! - Short Ribs have an outer crunch, but tender inside. It's not overly seasoned or salted like other places. - Brisket was tender, juicy and not overly fatty - Turkey is was great too. Hutchin's was good too - Mac and Cheese: SO enjoyed it. Our first ever Texas bbq. And its been in Dallas. Everything was decent to incredible even for someone who's an extremely picky plant-based type of meat eater, and SO who likes to bbq and smoke food. We tried 5bbq places during our visit, below in order: - Rudy's in Allen: Brisket was a bit fatty but had a very smokey taste. - Soulmans in Allen: Chicken and Links are good. We didn't get to try chicken at other places. - Hutchin's in McKinney: Fried okra was really good. Pecan Lodge was spectacular though. Hutchin's only had brisket, brisket links and sausages. Their sampling of Turkey and chicken were great but we didn't get to try more than that. Only the fried okra was good. - Pecan Lodge is both our #1 favorite place. Brisket, fried okra was just wow! Turkey was really really good too but it's the only full dish turkey we've eaten. Overall everything was great! Whereas many places had maybe only 1 item that was good, until we tried better. - Terry Blacks in downtown would be our number #2 fav place: The 1st place to actually have Beef Ribs available. So we couldn't compare the beef ribs to other places. It was delicious, a bit fatty, and stayed super soft even after reheats. The sausage was just as good as Pecan Lodge. If we're ever back on Dallas, Pecan Lodge is a must visit! Lockhart and Hard Eights are next to try.
I spent a short summer in Dallas almost a decade ago and
I spent a short summer in Dallas almost a decade ago and Pecan Lodge was known as one of the top BBQ spots (with the longest lines). I had gone a few times throughout the summer and remember the brisket and pork ribs being delightful. This time around I wasn't as impressed. The brisket was good but a little dry. To be fair, we arrived at 8:30pm during eclipse weekend, so it was extremely crowded. We waited in line for about an hour and by that time they were out of everything except for the brisket. So I would probably recommend to try it closer to opening time when they have all their meats and everything is fresh. The space is large and in a really cool area - Deep Ellum. I felt so bad for the staff having to deal with all the crowd and people complaining about running out of stuff. They handled it really well and kept things moving as quickly as they could.

I had an amazing experience at the Pecan Lodge during my visit in Dallas. Staff were super nice and friendly. They got a long line but the cashier was keeping up with his positive vibes. Although the line was long, it moved fast. It got the giant big rib and that was so good. I think it was $34 a lbs or so. I highly recommended it. The meat simple melt in your mouth. Their bbq sauces were delicious and house made. I paid $5 for parking in the parking lots. If you sit outside, you can view them making bbq. Would come back again when I am in the area.
Absolutely best BBQ in Dallas.
The lines are long but it's worth the wait! Greens are almost as good as my MiMi's
This place gets super busy! The food I believe is better
This place gets super busy! The food I believe is better than Terry Blacks. Honestly, coming from California you must try both to see which one you prefer. Pecan lodge seasonings and overall quality for the price is great. We usually order the brisket, jalapeño sausage, and beef ribs. All excellent. Last time we to go our order, they gave us a wrong order. So make sure to check your order if you take out. We spent nearly $200. We got half a rack of pork ribs (which we gave to our neighbor) since we don't eat pork ribs, a few slices of turkey which was really good, and we got a few slices of the brisket. Called the restaurant, but manager was not available at the time, so left a message, but no one called me back. The ambiance is welcoming and a great experience if you dine in.
Good, but not great.
The service was efficient at the bar, and there was lots of open seating (on a weeknight). My partner said the brisket was amazing, but as someone who doesn't eat red meat the turkey left a little to be desired. We'll keep shopping around for our favorite bbq place.
While I'm not a bbq fan, the group was.
Loved my fried chicken, crisp crust, looks like grandma made it in a n iron skillet. Fried okra, Mac and cheese were amazing. One of our party had the hot mess, and said it was really good. Also noticed there is a bar menu that included nachos, wings and chopped beef sliders. Would definitely come again
I love Pecan Lodge! Their pork ribs are my absolute
I love Pecan Lodge! Their pork ribs are my absolute favorite. The brisket isn't too far behind. Tender, moist, satisfying smokiness. The collard greens are superb! Tangy, savory, pairs with the brisket... a match made in heaven. The service is quick and accurate. I sat at the bar and had a few beers with my meal. I'm never disappointed here. Superb BBQ, consistent and flavorful. A definite positive for Deep Ellum.
Pitmaster sandy.
Omg. No cash. Apple Pay, debit or credit okay. Nachos were also fantastic, but the pitmaster took gold.
Lots of anticipation when arriving at Pecan Lodge.
On a rainy Thursday, I thought this would be a perfect BBQ day and I was not totally disappointed nor was I totally blown away. My long time Dallas friend and I braved the weather and traffic jam to arrive shortly after their opening hour of 11:00AM. BTW, parking behind the restaurant is plentiful but at a $5.75/hour cost. My litmus test for BBQ is sampling their brisket and pork ribs. I ordered potato salad as my side. Before we could get our drink glasses filled our order number was called. The fare looked really great on the little metal tray with butcher paper lining. We asked about sauce and was told, "on the table". So on the table were salt, pepper, a roll of paper towels, and two squeeze bottles, one clear, and one red. Conditioning in America suggests the red bottle is ketchup, so in a BBQ place, leave that one alone. I picked up the clear one (that sort of looked like BBQ sauce) and began to drizzle on my brisket. To my great surprise, it was thin, runny, vinegary, and very disappointing! I then wondered what was in the red bottle. Ahhh, BBQ sauce! Squirted that lovely stuff all over the meat. Huge difference, of course! Ribs had great rub and initial delicious flavor but were way too dry for my liking. Maybe they were leftover from the day before. Huge disappointment. Brisket was the star. Cooked / smoked perfectly. Tender, juicy, great balance between lean and fat, and with the correct sauce, delectable. My colleague stated, the vinegary sauce tasted great on his pulled pork clump. There were two peculiar aspects of my experience: the potato salad was good enough, and the portion, huge (I mean really huge), but lacked something to make it worthy of coming back for, or even finishing. The second peculiarity was the cola. The self serve dispensary offered all the usual flavors but, where was the Coke? I inquired and was told it is Mexican Coke "on the end". Well, I've had plenty of Mexican Coke in bottles, and this was NOT Mexican Coke. It was a disappointment. IMHO, most Pecan Lodge diners don't give a flip about this version of Mexican cola. All in all, four stars are about right. It's worth trying once and maybe going back to sample other offerings. I will try again.
Great spot to hang out, and lots to do around the area.
We ordered the Brisket, Pulled Pork and Ribs which were all great but I would definitely recommend the Pulled Pork! The service was great too, they were pretty busy and we still got our food quickly and everyone was super friendly.
Starting off with positives, the brisket was extremely
Starting off with positives, the brisket was extremely thick and very tasty! The pulled pork was also pretty good too!! Now onto the negatives. The Pork Ribs were the driest, most overcooked ribs I've ever had, extremely disappointing. I also got the banana pudding and peach cobbler and both were pretty underwhelming. Hattie B's has way better Banana Pudding. The Texas Tumbleweed cookie was really really good tho. The service was pretty fast for takeout and the ambiance had a classic Texas barbecue feel. 8/10 overall.
A little disappointed in the attitude of the kitchen staff
A little disappointed in the attitude of the kitchen staff this time. I've been to Pecan Lodge 3 times over the years. It's been 5 stars before. This time my food was cold. The fried Okra was cold like they had been sitting out for an hour plus. My brisket was also just warm. We were there at the start of the dinner rush. There was no line yet. When we left our show and passed by the restaurant, the outside benches were full of customers.
Every time I come here I leave with such a good experience,
