What a mixed bag.
The major problem with Sabine and Pascal can be summed up with one word: SALTY. First the service and cocktails outstanding. I would have no problem going there for cocktails. Except there are nicer places to go for cocktails in Asbury Park. My wife and I had the french onion soup. It was salty. When I say salty, I mean like drinking sea water or brine salty. I did eat the melted cheese and toast, but when drink the soup itself, it was so salty, I put it aside. My wife had the black bass, which she said was great. I had fish and chips. The fish was ok, but the fries were so salty, I could only eat a few. My kids had the beef bouginese (sp?) they loved it. My wife had a affogato and my daughter and I shared the hot chocolate ice cream (kind of like an affogato, but with hot chocolate, rather than espresso). We all noted the ice cream was incredibly icy. My other pet peeve is that they charge $15/person for a reservation. Plus they don't refund if you need to cancel. Not reflected in rating.

Decided to give this lovely business a go based on thier stellar reviews and it was just a descibed from others. First off, my Husband and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary and we were particular about the ambiance, the food, the bar service and the overall experience we were hoping to have. This place checked all the boxes, not to mention the exclusivity it exuded when we arrived and saw the small scale, half empty dining area. We assumed we would instantly be sat at one of their cozy booths, however, we were turned away and told " reservations only" by the hostess and the gentleman who appeared to be her boss for the evening. Now generally, I would walk out and piviot my plans to go elsewhere. However, I decided to inquire about sitting at the rather empty bar and he informed us that we could sit there and take advantage of the full menu as well. I said sure and and we went over. We ended up meeting the barmaid named Taylor, and she was lovely adn very professional. Tangent*** she had very nice hair! Anyways, Taylor took care of us that evening and we enjoyed our evening at the Horseshoe bar. I had very high quality cocktails and the made top teir drinks. The food was also very elegant and packed with flavor; the oysters and beef tartar screamed 'freshly prepared' so I find that to be a huge deal. I am taking off 1 star due to the initial encounter and their nonchalant manner as we almost turned to leave after being turned away and discouraged to stay. Infact, my husband showed a 8:30pm time slot for reservations and was going to book it but the man countered "thats inaccurate, we are working with 4 servers, not 5 and so we cannot seat you. I'm very sorry". Zero compassion from him or the host, but I advocated and we wondered to the bar.
Be the first to Replyvery disappointed.
dined there last night. the cocktails, beer and wine were not very cold. there are no tap beers. the garlic soup was very good. the onion soup was a mess. no vibrancy. the onions were 90% of the small crock. the fish in the fish and chips had no taste or texture. it was mush. horrible. there was a orange color sauce that was outstanding. service was good but the timing was awful. 30 minutes between soup and entree on a slow Sunday night. I was warned that the food was subpar. I didn't believe it. I do now. will never return especially since there are so many great options in the eastern Monmouth County area.

All the dishes were flavorful and shareable.

Perhaps they were off their normal stride but our brunch was a big disappointment. Service was slow and inattentive. Quiche Lorraine was overcooked, dry and crumbly and came 15 minutes after my wife eggs Benedict which were undercooked with very runny whites and a flavorless hollandaise. The escargot app was very good but bread for dipping showed up 10 minutes later. The drinks and dessert were fine. Overall the food quality and service were definitely not in line with the pricing.
Be the first to ReplyNot worth it if you're going to eat.
Massively overpriced for the quality. The drinks were solid but the food was average at best. It was a nice looking place but I wouldn't go a second time. Service could be better, as far as timing goes. They were polite but we waited over an hour for our food to arrive, after ordering and when we were done with our drinks, it took over 30 minutes for the waiter to just come back to ask us if we wanted another round.

Be the first to ReplyAs a middle aged carnivore, I have experienced every level
As a middle aged carnivore, I have experienced every level of steakhouse you can think of. From Applebees to Ruths Chris to Gordon Ramsey himself.... And this might be the most disappointing steak I have ever had. $75, 16oz boneless ribeye supposedly from Niman Ranch,,,,, was basically a hunk of gristle. I assume this is supposed to be Prime Beef, but I could be wrong. And it's not even worth mentioning the steak was way under cooked. I asked for medium rare and it came out with a charred crust and a cold center. I was there for a birthday celebration so I wasn't going to raise a stink about it, so I did my best to cut a few pieces of edible meat off this thing but every single bite had gristle in it. In addition, I asked to see a wine menu and the guy just asked me what I want. Well Junior, I want to see a menu..... I don't want the house Cabernet. He ended up bringing me a glass of whatever was open behind the bar. And all the food came out way too fast. Wife ordered French onion soup (with the French bread and melted/charred cheese on top.... The full French onion soup) and he left, came back 5 seconds later with a bowl of French onion soup. Everything was pre-made and just sitting under heat lamps waiting to be ordered. I will not be going back. I originally wrote a 2 star review but I had to change it to 1 star because there was nothing redeeming about this place. The drinks were ok?? And the raw oysters were awesome, but you really can't screw up raw oysters. I will definitely not be going back. I wouldn't go back to Pascal and Sabine even if it was on the same price point as TGI Fridays!!

Everyone kept telling me this was their favorite place and it just felt weird to me ... somewhere so fancy, seems aggressive to deem their very favorite. But after having Valentine's Day dinner there I can see myself happily going back for happy hour and brunch in a much more relaxed environment. Had the caviar which came with these crispy lattice chips where was the perfect vessel. My boyfriend loved the Bellinis which is like a doughy pancake balanced with crรจme fresh on the side. Okay BUT the real star was the coq au vin .. I am always weary ordering chicken as it's pretty much always dry. Not this .. 3 legs I guess came. Fall off the bone. Juicy tender skin was cooked perfectly. Mmm with mashed potatoes mushrooms and these cute little onion balls. I can see myself going back to eventually try the whole menu!
Be the first to ReplyYou can never go wrong with French food.
Like most restaurants they have their highs and the lows, their highs were definitely the duck cassoulet and wine selection, they're low was there said cheese platter, the burger was OK at best. Definitely nothing I would order again. They have a decent menu, and I will say they definitely had some of the best french fries cooked in duck fat that I've ever had.

Restaurant was less than 50% full, but we were told by the hostess that we could only sit at the bar without a reservation. Ok. Looooong wait to get bartender's attention. Staff was not overly friendly or chatty and felt a bit foreign for Asbury Park in terms of vibe. Over-priced menu at bar. Cocktails were good but again took a looooooooong time to get a refill. The whole experience kinda sucked. Next time, we will have to go elsewhere on a Saturday.
Be the first to ReplyThoroughly enjoyed our brunch at this place.
Hadn't dined here in awhile. Jenna C. Our server was both knowledgeable and pleasant. We enjoyed a few courses of the menu. The sweet garlic soup so unique and flavorful. The French Onion is a classic must. Gotta have the Escargot - tender and buttery. Love the Parisian decor. We enjoyed the unexpected live music too. Not sure if live music is a regular offering or if it was because of the holidays.
Be the first to ReplyCame back a second time & was still disappointed.
The service was terrible, our server had no clue what items were on the menu, went missing for long periods of time & the food was awful. For the price of food & drinks, I am extremely upset & would not recommend this restaurant.

Talented and knowledgeable bartender/waiter had all the details down. Put on your high heels and jacket and treat yourself.

Be the first to ReplyI have been here a few times and found the food reasonable
I have been here a few times and found the food reasonable but this last time was very disappointing. We had reserved a table of 5 for a birthday dinner and expected more than received. The hostess was slow in attention with no apology. They decided to stick us in a hidden corner near the wait staff station, very isolated. We felt the food in general was very salty. We had escargot, truffle pasta and entree pasta that was over salted and under- portioned. We ordered and paid for a 2017 Sancerre but received a 2021. The Moules and Frites was the only good meal. So disappointing!!

Ok. This is a bad one. #1 complaint...Advertised Fournier Pรจre et Fils, Grande Cuvรฉe 2017 | Sancerre | Loire Valley $95...sent out a 2021 Vintage. Shady. #2 complaint...seated us at a horrible table in the back under basically a spotlight with a curtain at our backs near a wait staff station. #3 complaint...the food was bad. So salty (Multiple dishes: Escargot, Pastas, Muelles et Frites...) across most of our plates. Not overly impressed with the service either. Tipped well as we always do. Dropped this place from our list and cancelled our Sunday Brunch reservation. Won't be back.
