OMAKASE YUME Chicago Reviews from The Last Year
Fantastic omakase in Chicago! I highly recommend.
The service was very lovely, detailed, and each of the items was absolutely delicious. This is a place I'll definitely be back to. The space is pretty, comfortable, and intimate. The service was the right balance between formal and restrained but without being too stuffy.
Can’t recommend highly enough!
The best sushi I’ve ever had in Chicago. I lived in Tokyo and Kyoto for years and really struggle to find authentic, fresh sushi anywhere in the states. BUT Chef Sangae has done it! The tasting menu featured a delicious progression of flavors and the specials were just as good. 10/10. Also, the ambiance and service are impeccable. Obviously it’s a very delicate dining experience. I went alone and it felt very warm, inviting and it was great to watch the Chef work.

I like how some of these 1 star reviews are from people that are wannabe Gordon Ramsay's lol. I've been to numerous omakase's and guess what? The chefs don't talk much like Omakase Yume. For me it was not my first rodeo. I've also been to other Michelin restaurants where you don't even meet the chefs or interact with them. To clarify there were no bugs around the restaurant, no hair in the food, and lastly the server did not rush us or the other couple at all. I just wanted to get some of the facts straight since I have more than 1-3 reviews under my belt. The restaurant is small so it is limited seating. I was able to converse with the chef and his wife. She was the main server for us. Fish quality was exceptional. You do have the option of adding on extra pieces to your main menu. They're different prices depending on what they are. Prices are standard and within the usual range for 1 Michelin star restaurants in Chicago. I was here awhile ago but I would go again. I'll post some accurate pictures so that people can get an idea.
Elite sushi in an intimate space.
As good as the other top sushi places I've been to. The amuse bouche and dessert were creative and delicious, while the fish in between were simple and excellent. The menu was built to go from light fish (like madai, which I really liked) to fatty fish (otoro) twice, unlike many other omakases which do one long cycle and leaves you with several heavy notes at the end - getting chutoro and otoro in the middle of the meal was a nice change! Strong ending with a fish bone broth (takes 8 hours and over 20 types of fish) and dessert. The server was the chef's wife, which made it feel like we were being treated to a (Michelin-starred) family meal.

nice night out with my bf, we dressed up nice for the occasion (and while i know it isn't a requirement, it's really a bummer when the other two couples in the reservation time slot were dressed like total scrubs ). cute small intimate space, with 6 total spaces per reservation. the food was incredible. maybe the best sushi i've had in Chicago. two things as a negative (aside from the aforementioned attire issue): 1.) it is a pet peeve of mine when a michelin-starred place charges extra for sparkling water... it's a friggin' bottle of san pellegrino for god's sake, especially based on the price of the tasting menu. ridiculous. 2.) it would have been nice if the chef at least introduced himself. i don't need a copious amount of chit chat, but at least a welcome or something. the only thing i heard from him was the name of each fish when he plated them in front of each couple. but the fish made up for the negatives.

In comparison to other omakase restaurants in Chicago, omakase yume definitely has the most traditionally curated menu. I can understand why it is deserving of its star in the city of chicago. I would recommend this place to anyone who hasn't had an omakase before.

Fish and dishes were great; Ambience is starting to feel a little dated and location is a little sleepy; Chef and service was really good; Pricing was higher end and my biggest criticism of price and place was that they excluding more expensive ingredients that would usually be included for the rate. Similar omakase experiences were about same price but includes multiple expensive cuts of tuna, uni and some drinks..
Overall the place was good.
It's definitely an experience and I liked it. The chef definitely approaches sushi with authenticity and sincerity. He puts lots of efforts and attention into each course but I wasn't blown away by the experience. For being a Michelin star restaurant, I was a bit disappointed. I would have enjoyed a lengthier course with more variety. For $225 plus tip and taxes, I would expect something more. Ambiance was intimate and had nice modern Japanese interior setting. The staffs were professional and helpful. I am not sure if I would recommend it to anyone on a budget. I would say there are other restaurants that offer more for less money. Keep up the great work chef!
My husband and I came here for an anniversary dinner.
I stalked the website in order to secure the 7 pm time slot (given the intimate seating arrangement) and I'm so glad I did. The fish was outstanding (smoked salmon "sake" being my personal favorite) and even the miso soup was phenomenal. While pricey, the quality of the fish shows with this price tag. Glad to be able to mark this well deserved Michelin Starred restaurant off my list. Chef SangTae has mastered his technique at Omakase Yume.

100% the best sushi I have ever had in the city!! The restaurant is small and intimate! It was a perfect meal, and we left stuffed. It is clear why this is a Michelin starred restaurant!!
Probably the highest quality edomae omakase in Chicago.
With that said, the price has really gone up a bit too much. Not sure I can convince myself to pay close to $1k for me and my wife.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.

Working on your bid? |
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted. |
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from? |
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered? |
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
Newbie sellers— how fast do your reservations sell?
I have some reservations coming up tomorrow that have gotten lots of views but haven’t sold yet. I haven’t made a sale yet since I just joined this week. I keep lowering the price, but am worried they won’t sell. How long did it take you to sell your first reservations? And did you have success being reimbursed by AT for no-show or cancellation fees? Just looking for a little reassurance. Thanks!

Hi, I have a reservation to Nobu Malibu, but since they don't do text or e-mail confirmations I haven't been able to get my reservation posted. I have posted a screen shot of the phone conversation on the listing, but it keeps getting rejected. If anyone has an idea how I can get it approved that would be much appreciated, thanks!

Give the best answerConcierge change fulfillment time
I posted a request for a reservation this Thursday between 6:30 and 8 pm and initially the potential seller said it would be fulfilled by today. Now they changed it that they will only fulfill it by 5pm that same day. Basically I would have an hour and a half to get to the restaurant. Is this allowed?

This app is a catfish and overrun by people programming “bots” and algorithms. It makes it frustrating for someone not well versed in this to have any movement. I thought this would be a fun side hustle, but unfortunately it’s become like any other “side hustle”. Don’t waste your time with this crap. Not a question, just a suggestion. Also don’t pay these fake “gurus” hundreds of dollars to teach you. Might as well sign up for a software class. 😕
