Old Swan Witney Reviews from The Last Year
Great food in a great setting
Lovely setting of old inn but with all the modern facilities you would want. Handy for visiting Oxford and Blenheim Palace.
The best four days of a two week trip.
Beautiful and relaxing. We enjoyed everything about our stay. Tiberius “TB” and all of the staff were wonderful. Excellent food, drink and spa options.
midweek stay
Stay was booked as a gift for us we did not know what to expect but pleasantly suprised. If we came to the area again would certainly consider another stay
Lovely country inn, great location
My husband and I had 5 nights at this lovely old Inn. We had the garden suite, very spacious, super comfortable bed, a bathroom at one end and a walk-in shower at the other end (with lovelyL'Occitane toiletries) and really quiet. We had lovely walks through the beautiful village and along the river Windrush. The location within easy reach of Oxford and the Cotswold towns was ideal for us. The staff were friendly and helpful, but seemed to be rather overstretched. Breakfast was included in our package and was excellent. The dinner menu is short, and while not fine dining, the food was fine - fish and chips very good, tasty shepherd's pie. We only had 1 lunch, a shared Ploughman's. Our only complaint was that housekeeping only arrived at our room at about 3pm every day, just as we returned from our wanderings and wanting a rest. We would happily stay again.
Bad value for money
We visited this pub for lunch on Wed essay after a walk around minster lovell,I ordered a salmon sandwich my partner had gnocchi well we were shocked at the meal that came out a small sandwich with 5 crisps in a pot and my Partners was even smaller, terrible value for money at £36 u should be wearing a mask and striped shirt ,I worked in the food I ndustry for 24 years and know cost of these things won't be returning
Down the Swanee
We booked the Garden Suite for three nights and the room was on appearance very nice until we discovered the outside light did not work [It being an annexe] and though reported was not fixed during our stay and could not get in without using the light from our mobile phones. The rubbish bin was broken and there was no plug in the bath and that was not replaced till a day and a half into our stay and then it did not fit. There was a dripping tap in the bathroom sink and the maintenance man turned up to fix it then went off to find a washer and never returned. We had one meal in the hotel with their 'Pie and pint' offer and had to wait 45 minutes before being served and when it did both pies were burnt so did not repeat the experience. In the time we were there piles of cigarette dog ends in pots of rain water were placed at the entrances to the reception and never cleaned out as were glasses and plates on the garden tables. As for breakfast on one of the mornings the produce was obviously old and the last one we had to wait so long to be served we had to leave without having it. They had a chance to redeem themselves as we left a phone charger in our room and rang to ask it to be posted back to us which of course they did not. The staff were friendly and helpful as best they could under circumstances as it is obviously understaffed which must be down to the owners who have ripped the soul out of what was once a great old inn.
Birthday night away in the Cotswolds
Spent a lot of money on a very poor dining experience, both evening meal and breakfast. Everything left us very angry and disappointed, for what should have been the perfect night away in the Cotswolds. Wont be rushing back. Toilet didn't work in the bedroom either.
Nice staff, nice location, below average dining
This was our third (and based on this weekend’s experience) our last visit to this beautifully located pub with rooms. Accommodation is very tired, but ultimately it was the awful food that let it down … when I booked, the package inclusion was “Superb three-course dinner in the restaurant” … a number of the limited menu options were not available and choices were mediocre pies and/or fried stuff. What should have been a celebratory few days away wasn’t.
Wonderful Old Swan
a family short break, to visit the burford park, and fely very lucky to have found suce a lovely hotel, child and dog friendly. could not fault in anyway, will stay again in the future. have booked a room for our son and his wife in May day after they het married for a short break before they jet off.
A wonderful English Christmas experience in the Cotswolds!
Our American family booked the Christmas package to celebrate the holiday with my senior citizen parents, 2 college kids, my adult sister and my husband and I. Our group of 7 had 4 rooms in the Old Swan. We were greeted with champagne on arrival in the quaint pub. Our beautiful rooms were clean, comfortable and charming. With the package, we all had a Christmas gift bag awaiting us in each room that had a print of the Old Swan, local chocolates and cookies in an adorable Christmas tin, the local gin drinks, a lovely candle and a live Christmas tree! It was so sweet! The food was incredible! We had the full English breakfast and the 5 course holiday meals were abundant and delicious with champagne at every meal! The live music set the holiday mood and the Christmas crackers were a fun new tradition we learned about! It really gave us a warm traditional English country Christmas! We walked down the road of the picturesque village of Minster Lovell that was out of a story book to the super cool ruins of the old mansion. We came back to the roaring fire in the huge fireplace of the tavern and then went upstairs to our quaint rooms. The staff really went out of their way to cater to our every need including special dietary considerations (one of our party had a gluten allergy and they always made sure to address and accommodate her at every meal). We highly recommend the hotel, food, staff and experience! It couldn't have been better!
Nice pub, food good but poor value
We went to the Old Swan for a Saturday lunch as we were in the area. The pub is clean and warm with log fires. Their pies seemed to be a speciality on the menu so we decided this would be a good filling lunch as we were hungry. After 30 minutes wait we had to chase it up and it arrived 10 minutes later - the pub was not hugely busy so our order must have been overlooked. At first glance the meal was well presented but looked very ‘nouvelle cuisine’. However while obviously home cooked and tasting good- the quantity was very disappointing. Pie was small, one small amount of mash, one carrot cut in half and a little kale. My partner was still hungry afterwards and at £20 for each meal with an additional 10% service charge, we felt this was not good value for a pub lunch - so we would not go back to eat. Such a shame as a nice pub!
Great Service, location and food.
We booked for 15 people, with group size we were looked after by the events team. Of course pre-order is better for both family and restaurant with this quantity and Becki supported throughout the process. On the Night Tibby gave the best head waiter service I have seen in UK, with Natasha looking after us with drinks. The result was a very relaxed meal with good food, service and Environment. Would recommend.
Truly peaceful
We love this place and always look forward to returning. The pub has a lovely atmosphere with genuinely friendly staff who make you feel at home with their relaxed approach. The rooms are well appointed and be prepared for plenty of squeaky floorboard’s ! One point to note that the stairs from the pub to the room’s are spiral and fairly steep which may not suit anyone with knee/hip issues. The food is nice - maybe a little pricey for some choices - and the breakfast is fantastic. Well worth trying for your next break in the Cotswolds.
1 star food and service 5 star prices
What a rip off. £14 for a glass of average wine. Dinner was a joke, menu was pathetic and how do you get a chocolate brownie served cold. Come on!! If we had not paid for 3 nights, would leave tomorrow. Rooms very tired. Not worth a stay. No vibe at all. It’s as though there is no soul to this place. Most disappointed.
Great team and very impressed with our stay
We stayed here between Xmas and new year last minute for 2 nights as booked Blenheim palace and light trail. due to availability we stayed first night in countryman room which has four poster bed and Lovell with super king on second night. Both rooms were lovely. We ate dinner both nights as food was so good. Didn’t feel the need to look elsewhere. Went over to sister hotel next door for a cocktail before dinner. Breakfast was also lovely. All members of staff were very friendly and always helpful. Would like to give a big shout out to Neve as nothing was too much trouble and to the housekeeper who turned around the bedrooms to a very high standard for us. Would definitely stay again

How do you set a timeline for getting your bid accepted? I can’t wait till the actual time I want to go. I want to know at least eight hours ahead of time. How do you do that?
