I hate to give this place a 3/5 based on the food, because it has a potential to be a 5/5. One extra star because the service was great. The drinks were great, pretty standard cocktails. We ordered the frog legs and scallops for the first course. The frog legs were nothing special, like lightly fried like fried chicken. I guess this could be exotic if you've never had frog legs before, but for us, it was nothing special. I'm a huge scallops fan and I feel like the cucumbers took away from the pure flavors of the scallops. I tasted more cucumbers than scallops because they were sliced so thinly.For the next course, we got the soba and the shrimp. The soba was cooked perfectly and tossed in a light soy base. I really hope the soba was made fresh, because otherwise this dish is something I can make easily at home. The shrimp portion was generous and good... kinda just tasted like a fancier mayo shrimp.Lastly, we ordered the pork jowl and the mushrooms. The pork jowl was tender. Again, nothing special. The mushrooms was the best course by far. This one was very creative, using many types of mushrooms and cooked in different ways, with a more than perfect egg yolk that was sooo creamy. For a $75 3 course tasting menu, I expect everything to be unique like the mushroom dish. Although the portions were larger than expected, it did not feel like they took enough risk in their dishes to make the menu stand out.
