Food was excellent the first time I went it was a friends
Food was excellent the first time I went it was a friends birthday and they gave us a table next to the kitchen. We got all the noise but none of the view. The food was delicious. Be sure to eat your meals properly. They seasoning is meant to pair with the rice that it comes with. My second visit was not as good. The food quality had dropped and one of the dishes had seafood that had gone off I had to send it back. The waiter then tried to upsell us into a replacement item, but after getting a mouthful of bad seafood, our meal was done and I had them box the rest of their meal. While there kitchen is good, their front of house leaves much to be desired, as no one checked back on us after the returned dish. Or during my friends birthday for that matter.

Really good dinner at Nari last night!! The servers gave really great recommendations and we ended up ordering the root vegetable salad, Brussels sprouts, squid and pork jowl, eggplant curry, and chicken, and ended the meal with a chocolate mousse. Would highly recommend the root vegetable salad, chicken and the squid and pork jowl'!! The eggplant curry is quite spicy so definitely keep that in mind! The flavors are also quite strong and on the saltier side but quite delicious overall :)

We invited close friends of ours to join us for a delicious Thai meal at Nari. I'm not sure they'll be friends with us after that disaster of a meal. The food was just plain bad. I'd say it was the saltiest meal I've ever had in my life. I really can't believe the hype about this place. It's terrible. It's like my twelve year old son, who has never touched a kitchen utensil, cooked the meal for us, and we had to smile and pretend it was good (although I did send one salt bomb back and was told that the chef would be informed lol). There is MUCH better Thai food in the area for a fraction of the cost. Save your money and your health.

Good service & delicious food - decently affordable thai food for having 1 michelin star (we paid ~$60 pp alcarte to split 6 dishes across 4 people) highly recommend the chicken, pork & squid, brussel sprouts, and root salad. Eggplant curry was pretty spicy and a lot spicier than the other dishes. Chocolate mousse was also delicious to finish off the meal with dessert :) def reserve in advance if you want to try!

I believe our rezzies were at 7:30pm, so a friend and I decided to head over early and sit at the bar upstairs. It was very chill. A nice lounge like vibe. We grabbed two seats at the bar and were the only ones there for a while. Cocktails were fun. And the bartender was sweet. Once everyone arrived, we transferred our bill downstairs to the table. Out of the above, I really wanted the caviar. Why? I have no idea, but most in my party didn't want any, so I basically had all of it to myself. (Or maybe they were just being nice since it was my bday? Regardless, I'll take it!) Went fine with the scallion roti. Tho I did wish there was something like a creme fraiche to cut thru the saltiness. They were very sweet and actually printed my name on the menu for my bday! I was not a part of the bill paying, but one of my friends did tell me it was a min of $125 per person. We thought we had hit it, but apparently we were $18.38 short. I do wish our server said something as that is just wasted money. We would have ordered another drink or something. Do note that the 5% health mandate is included in the min, so it's actually $118.75 per person if you are factoring just food and drink prices. Fun place to have some elevated Thai food. Tho if you have a party that requires a min per person, check the bill before you pay. You may have been charged the difference in the min instead of just hitting it.

In my third visit to this establishment, I explored the main dining hall after having previously attended work events in the private room. The transition was seamless, and the dining hall experience exceeded expectations. From delightful dishes to exceptional drinks and impeccable service, every aspect contributed to a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience.

Very creative menu. The service was very good as well. The root vegetable and squid and pork jowl dishes were the highlights.

as a devout fangirl of the restaurant's owner since the chez pim days, I was really excited to eat at nari and check this dining experience off my bucket list. the ambiance is orientalist hotel, understandable given the restaurant's literal location. service was really warm and lovely. for the price, however, I felt the food was kind of on the okay side overall. salad, oyster dish, and seafood curry were pretty yum. the squid & pork jowl was the meal standout - definitely get if you eat here. our waiter happily praised the gaeng hung lay, a beef cheek curry that my very blunt asian mother described as tasting "like Chinese medicine" to the deep embarrassment of the server and me. I love my mom, but... anyway, I think it was good but more of an acquired taste compared to the squid/pork dish. for dessert we got the dreaming of lod chong, which tastes like pandan waffles in salted cream form. interesting, experimental. happy to have had the opportunity to dine here but not sure how quickly I would return given the cost and the food being decent but not life-changing. beautiful, though, and def worth trying once. curious to try kin khao next!
Be the first to ReplyThey literally stole money from me.
I had the most horrible experience. Tables are all crammed next to each other. Hence, there is no privacy. The party next to us was incredibly obnoxious. They would even look at what my wife was looking at on her phone and make comments about it. They were super intrusive. And all this was possible due to this horrible setup. On top of that, the food was mediocre, and dessert was disgusting. So I didn't leave any tips after that terrible experience. However, when I checked my bank statement, I noticed they gave themselves a generous tip. These people are thieves. Make sure to take your copy of the bill and check your bank statement. They use a facade of luxury and prestige in order to scam customers.

We ordered the tasting menuIt started out great but the final few dishes were overly seasoned and overly heavy. My girlfriend and I both felt lethargic and light headed after the meal lasting for over an hour. We didn't eat beyond our capacity, and I've been full before without feeling physically unwell. Vibe was excellent. Service was good. Food was mixed. I would return and maybe a la carte plates.

Cocktails ordered, our server endeavored to explain the menu, essentially performing roll-call of who could handle "spicy" (3 of us) and who could only handle "less spicy" (1). If your table balances out in the opposite fashion consider dining elsewhere. Nari seems tailor-made for those who enjoy heavily spiced fare. Here's what one at my table explained: "We've dined at Kin Khao (Nari's older, Michelin-starred sister restaurant) and we like spicy food but at Kin Khao we found most of the dishes excessively spicy for our palates". I personally had no such problem at Kin Khao but the explanation had our server lead us through the menu explaining each dish and making various recommendations. We went with the recommended 4 "first course" dishes and "3 second course" dishes which she said would be a good though not huge amount of food. A bottle of wine, a round of cocktails, and 2 delicious, unique, shared desserts ensured that we didn't leave hungry. Though I got the gist of our server's explanations I couldn't get the meat of it owing to noise level. Nari is beyond loud (at least where I sat) and just grew louder as the dinner hour wore on. When I left I noticed that some table groupings seemed audibly quieter than where I sat and that's what I'd ask for should I ever return. And oh how I'd like to return. Nari has landed on Michelin's Bib Gourmand list for 2023. Bib Gourmand is supposed to denote a recommended restaurant, reasonably-priced for the market they serve. Michelin used to assign a dollar value to Bib Gourmand but I can no longer find this information. Suffice to say that a satisfactory 3-course meal here (that's what Bib Gourmand assesses) will easily run you about $100. So I personally consider a meal here more of a splurge and, since we were celebrating multiple birthdays it was just that. I tasted enough of the menu to decide that there's nary a bad thing to be sampled here but for the record I my personal favorites were: * Yum Sum-O ($19; a winter citrus salad), * Laab Jin ($28; Beef Tartare), and* Gaeng Bumbai Aubergine ($39; eggplant curry)Crab Curry ($68) was equally delicious but buried among so much spice that almost any protein it included would've been equally good.A whole, chopped up Branzino was beautifully presented and, along with Caramelized Fish Sauce Cabbage ($15) and the desserts, represented the only non-fire-bombs of spice in my meal. A day later, I'm still savoring the flavors of Nari. If my pockets were lined with gold I'd dine here on the regular.

DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU WANT A GOOD DINING EXPERIENCE!!! This restaurant is super rude and the host and servers are horribly unprofessional. It has no sense of hospitality and they do not know how to treat their customers, worst service I have ever experienced in my life!

I wish I could leave this restaraunt a negative review if I could because I have never had a worst experience in my life. The attitude with the male host is unbelievable. My friend and I got here at 5:40 and our reservation was at 5:30. We were waiting to get seated and that took around 15 mins, once we got to host, we were greeted with the worst attitude ever where he told us that we had to be seated at the community table instead of our normal table because of the 15 minute grace period. Which we were fine with. But we wanted to take some pictures together at the original table we were going to be seated at and they agreed at first but then the same host came to us and told us we had to leave after 1 min because he was going to seat other people and proceeded to make us leave. At this point my friend and I were very upset in which we asked to speak to the manager about the host's attitude. We proceeded to realize that the manager was right next to the host in which his exact words were "so do you want to dine here or not?" In which we left the restaurant.

I don't think this restaurant is bad but I also don't think it's a must try. The only thing that was really good was the squid with pork belly. We liked it so much that we ordered a 2nd plate. Everything else was either too sour or too spicy. It just didn't have a good balance in my opinion. The interior is super cute though and I feel like it'll be a cute date night. Desserts were decent, nothing crazy.

The interior of the restaurant is superb and it is also inside the very charming Kabuki hotel in Japantown. I ordered two dishes: the squid & pork jowl, which is Nari's signature dish, and the seafood curry. The meal began with an amuse-bouche served on the house. The squid & pork jowl was good, but unfortunately too spicy. The seafood curry was a bit disappointing, with a slightly mushy texture and some unusual rice crackers accompaniment (although they were good). It was also very spicy. The service was excellent.

Beautiful natural interiors designed meticulously. However -- Dishes let down by lack of thought/creativity (e.g. Dungeness crab curry is literally a parcel of crab plonked into a sea of curry that overwhelms any subtleties of the crab meat). -1 star- Unfortunately, prices were also 20-30% higher than they should be at this standard, even at the already notorious highs of SF. Makes it difficult to recommend, especially when The Progress and State Bird are just around the of corner with a similar or comparable price point. -1 star- Service friendly but we had different servers throughout, so lack of consistency. Guy at the front desk was also awkward.

As a fan of Kin Khao, I had high expectations for their offshoot, and I have to say, I wasn't disappointed! This place is known for fantastic Thai food in a kind of stylish dining setting, and it definitely lived up to the hype. However, I do have to admit that their cocktails seemed to get overshadowed by the fantastic food.

Really good vegan options and the eggplant was so amazing -- and loved the dessert! However, knocking off a star because their vegan dishes were SO spicy and they needed some more vegan options.
