Nice Cool French Restaurant
Loved the atmosphere and the food. If you are looking for French food that is a great option in SF. The scargots and duck confit are great and the onion soup and the steak tartare could be better.

The food was amazing and the menu had so many things to choose from. The escargot was one of the best I ever had, you could get that and a bowl of bread and be very happy. The see bass was wonderful cooked and so meaty it was like eating a nice steak and just enough food for two people. The little apple brandy shots at the end we really tasty. Should have taken more pictures but I was to busy eating:)

We had terrific seafood and duck confit here and we can highly recommend both along with pretty much anything else on. the menu. There were good gluten-free options and our entire party enjoyed the meal from start to finish. Good service and a fun, bustling atmosphere in Hayes Valley. Highly recommended for solid French fare - but bring your wallet.

What an excellent restaurant and wonderful service. I had the duck and my companion had the fish. From the wine, salad main course and dessert it was all excellent. We also had plenty of time for the the symphony that evening. We definitely will be back and I hope survive the pandemic. A big thank you to management!
Be the first to ReplyVery good service, decent food
Had a very nice experience here (dinner). We sat outside. I requested a birthday note for my wife and our reserved table already had the note waiting. Our waitress was very sweet. We had mixed reviews for our food; I liked my Duck confit but my wife didn't enjoy her steak. We both really liked the Onion soup. Would definitely return to try other dishes.

Several friends recommended Monsieur Benjamin for dinner before or after a performance. I am amazed, but perhaps we had an off night for our first and only visit. Our waitperson was overworked, the bar took 40 minutes to deliver a glass of chablis (it looked as if they had one person to pour beer and wine and one to tend bar despite the restaurant being expectedly crowded before a performance).
The food is obviously largely cooked and prepared beforehand . My salmon which I ordered medium rare was hard and cooked dry . The baby abalone was ruined by adding an herb vinaigrette and cooked slightly. This rare delicacy should be prepared to enhance the flavor of the sea. The beef tartare was heavily spiced, filler added and not the best beef.
The place is noisy and egregiously overpriced for what they serve.
Great food!
4 of us enjoyed a tasty meal before SF Ballet ~ $80 pp including a bottle of wine. We had a reservation for 5:30 and were well started when things got busy. Entrees arrived simultaneously. The Oeufs Mayonnaise are excellent. The Roasted Broccoli Amandine was very tasty. The Palmier Ice Cream was excellent. While $$ the service, cleanliness, presentation and staff manner was excellent.
Great food, excellent service, nice vibe
Recommendation from SF friends, we celebrated a birthday with some modern French bistro. The Halibut was five star. The mussels, top notch. We also took a long look at the fried Chicken, but were really happy with our choices. Nice upbeat vibe with great service. Note, the restaurant applies at 20% service fee, in lieu of a gratuity. Ok, by me. Sorry, no food pics!!

Came here with a group, including 2 kids. Great place for a brunch; large windows, plenty of light and the tables are not crowded.
Food options are French of course. Great breakfast options and some of their small plates were offered too. The tartare is always a delight. I went with the frisée salad, a few in the group got the hamburger (with they said was really good). French onion soup was good and the French toast one of the kids thought it was too sweet.
Service was good, nice staff, lagged a little on the drinks, they sat at the bar for a while. The bloody Mary’s are really good. I’ve had other cocktails during dinner and they’re great too.
Very Pleased with Monsieur Benjamin
I'd read mixed reviews before coming here, so my husband and I made a reservation before the ballet mostly for the convenience. I have to say we were pleasantly surprised. The chicken-liver tartine with toasted brioche was excellent; the crisp, butter lettuce salad was lightly dressed in the French style; and we shared an ample entree with an added side vegetable. All well-prepared. The coffee service was especially nice, rich and dark served in individual little pots so it stayed hot. And our waiter was attentive and knew the menu. We will return for dinner here even if we're not going to the theater afterward.
Be the first to ReplyBefore Symphony or Opera - but not for a quick bite!
Conveniently close to Davis Symphony Hall and the Opera house. Good food made to order: It takes time to prepare! Not for a quick bite! It gets quite busy during the hour before performance (~ 6 PM), but quiets down by 7 - 7:30.

Monsieur Benjamin is in the Michelin Guide. There are a number of positive reviews in Trip Advisor. However we did not have the experience that we expected. Service was mediocre. Food was fine but nothing exceptional. Prices were high but I have never had a problem paying top dollar for quality food and service.
