We had a really lovely time at Mohonk Mountain House. It is so nice to wander and feel taken of and not worry about cooking or restaurant reservations (when you stay you do have to reserve a time to show up for dinner). We stayed mid week and were able to get a significant discount. Our total for two nights was around $1700. We each had 2 spa treatments they each run about $215. Some of the more desirable hikes were closed for icy conditions- but luckily there are plenty of trails. Our room was sweet and small with a fireplace (King with lake view). We had a lovely small balcony with 2 rocking chairs and a great view. We ordered wood from the front desk and had a little fire going one night. Our food at dinner very good. The Halibut was excellent. Lunch is a buffet style with many options and just okay. We might have picked the wrong week to go- there were SO MANY families. It made what I hoped for a romantic a very different experience. Kids were for the most part just being kids- but I looked forward to a more refined experience at dinner (was told men had to wear collared shirts). One teenager wore an old baggy tshirt and too huge sweat pants. At one table a little girl was watching her iPad and singing and dancing (in place- not disruptive) and these made the atmosphere feel more chucky cheese than $$$$ a night mountain resort. Kids Rand down the hallway (there is one sign by the lobby elevator that asks children not to run down the hallways). I was awoken at 7am by a crying baby. We still had a great time- we just adjusted our expectations. I am sure it is not possible, for business/financial reasons, but Mohonk would be perfect if they offered a “couples week”- or an adults only few weeks of the year.
