Not sure what kind of scam this place is running, but stay well away
Not sure what kind of scam this place is running, but stay well away. Booked well in advance at the hotel Mela, for a stay in April. Today they email me saying that they’re closed and they want to transfer me to their sister hotel, The Hotel at fifth avenue. Checked the website and saw it was a 3* vs a 4* at the mela and asked for a reduction in rate. They said no, that I already had a discount applied and offered to allow me to cancel my booking. What a scam

Second time staying here! I think the most attractive thing about it is the convenience! Smack in Time's Square. Apart from that the place is lacklustre! But I think its run down...carpets musty and dusty...bathrooms....meh...stained and dilapidated. They mentioned they are about to do some major renovations.... For that price range the hotel is disappointing! It was great to see Georgie(Joji) again...great personality and friendly!

Wouldn’t rate this hotel as a 4 star. Staff were not helpful. First room we got … wasn’t very clean and previous guests glasses & lipstick were under arm chair, the heating wasn’t working & when maintenance team was called they said they didn’t know how to fix it, next morning we were moved to another room after we requested another room this was just as bad as wasn’t clean & massive stain in carpet which looked like a blood stain, terrible smell from the heaters. Water was not supplied in room - take your disposable cup from room to 2nd floor to water machines for gym. No food available in hotel. During the stay the us government took over the hotel no communication with guests as to what was going on despite asking reception. Would not recommend here

I stayed here last week with my daughter in law. The location was great. Literally just off Tines Square. I upgraded to a two bed room and this was accommodated. Beds were comfy, spotlessly clean, nice bathroom, staff friendly. We had a great stay. We were at the front of the hotel and some nights were a bit noisy with street traffic but this is not something the hotel could help.

The Mela Hotel is everything that you could wish from a holiday. Spacious rooms, Good Wi-Fi, Cleaning done everyday. Plenty of things to do just around the corner. The property is located just around the corner of Times Square. The staff is very friendly and helpfull. I strongly recomand it!👍

We love this place, it’s clean and so well located this has become our new favourite hotel in NYC. Perfectly located in midtown near everything exciting. The rooms are modern and clean and well air conditioned. The staff were very helpful and could not do enough for us.

We stayed at the Hotel Mela in May for 4 nights. Firstly I’d like to thank the staff for a wonderful stay, they’re fantastic! We checked in super quick and asked for a room on a high floor which we got. The hotel is perfectly located for any traveller to get out and explore all that New York has to offer. I would stay again in a heartbeat
Be the first to ReplyGreat stay, even better location!
Great place for parents traveling with small ones. The staff is very accommodating and professional. The rooms are clean and the hotel is centrally located. I’m sure there are other options with more bells and whistles but this was enough.

Fantastic location of Hotel Mela. Unfortunately the photographs are not an accurate depiction of the premises. We both decided to spend the minimum time possible at the hotel during our stay. Beginning at the lobby there are two guest elevators & one service elevator. They are quite slow and very small. Often wait times for a free car. We got a room upgrade which was a nice gesture however I wouldn’t have wanted to see what room we were getting prior to the upgrade as our current room wasn’t up to much. The room was small with dated decor. Cleanliness I would score 5/10. Rough around the edges. Understandably enough there was no view, looking out onto a brick wall. The bed in the room was something I’d use for a small child definitely not two adults. The bedside fixture had screws loose. The bathroom was grubby, missing silicone sealing the bath. Rusted hardware. The shower head was busted and spraying water everywhere bar where it should. Dust & dirt along the trims. Wallpaper peeling. AC worked perfectly fine but the television has a broken blue line down the middle of it. Carpet is pretty filthy and poorly finished at transition points. Clock in the room was slow by 15 minutes. Attention to detail is really overlooked with Hotel Mela. Little to no Covid protocols, hand sanitiser stations were empty. If you are visiting New York on a budget & aren’t too fussed with the room you stay in, this hotel is for you. It will absolutely tick all of the boxes you could expect from a budget hotel. Hate to be negative but I wanted to leave a true reflection of our stay as we were definitely led to believe we were staying at a 4 star hotel. Not sure how this hotel earned the 4 star rating, it needs to be revised and reviewed accordingly.
Be the first to ReplyZero complaints - great for a quick theater trip to NYC
Stayed one night to see two Broadway shows - fantastic location, walkable to all theaters and a short walk from Penn Station. Close enough to Times Square for easy access to theaters but far enough so you are not sleeping in the middle of the madness. Our two double bed room had the bathroom between the two beds, giving just a smidge more privacy- could be a good options for two couples or a couple with kids for a NYC adventure. Carlos was so helpful in storing our luggage during our matinees so we could pick it up after and head to the train station. This is not a super fancy hotel, but clean, safe and comfortable - served its purpose for what we needed and will certainly stay there again.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolute hole avoid like the plague
What a complete hole nothing like the pictures show told it was 4 star wouldn't give it 1 star 1 flat sheet on bed minus 2 outside Aircon was like a giant generator couldn't keep it on to noisy to sleep floors never hovered carpet missing cigarette burns in carpet no room to leave luggage on early arrival/departure $20 to keep room on fo 3 hours avoid this place like the plague if you want a pleasant stay in times square avoid this hotel at all costs

Dreadful dirty place rooms had roaches .
Complained promised refunds no response since we checked out . These guys don’t give a dam.
Phoned Emailed Tweeted but the promised 2 nights refund never happened . Expedia emailed no response .
Stay somewhere else unless you want bed bug bites !
PS they won’t let you leave your babe at the Hotel after 11 am .
Avoid at all costs.
Most unwelcoming reception experience I have ever encountered from the moment I walked through the door - it felt more like walking into a police station than into a hotel lobby. Service was unprofessional and that was before we realised there was an issue with our room. We had booked a twin but only a double was available. I accept some fault may be down to our travel agent but the hotel reception handled it very badly. They did offer us a large double but this was not acceptable and we ended up finding and booking alternative accommodation immediately. The room offered was dated and tatty with stains on the carpet and threadbare furniture. The corridors were in dire need of a freshen up and smelt of a combination of food oil and damp. Even if the room had been a twin, we wouldn't have stayed.
Be the first to ReplyGreat location
Frequent travellers to NYC and this has a great location and room whilst very dated very cold and nthing like the photos was cla. However that i about it as its very basic - no real reception,, conciere
Be the first to ReplyVery average and dated. Great location and not much else
Be aware. This hotel charges a "resort fee" I realize most all hotels are doing this. However, they will not even let you check your bags if your room is not available. That is just a basic service!!
They offer no services at all!!
The customer service is lacking but space/price/location are great
The housekeeping staff was very helpful.
The place was very clean, a little worn looking on some of the furniture but for this price in Manhattan... it was clean and that's all that mattered.
We had a bedroom, living area, and large bathroom for the price of a regular, small, NYC hotel room.
It was stressful because I couldn't get them to pick up the phone or return any messages for days before the trip and arrival date. Everything was fine once we arrived but they need more staff with better training on the front desk.
We also had an issue with a 1 pm check-out. Told us we couldn't have one, then tried to check out and leave bags and they said they can stay in our room until 1 pm. Up the elevator, we go, again, where I also leave a note we're checking out at 1 pm. While we were out getting lunch, housekeeping cleaned the whole room, around our luggage, it was odd.
Overall... location + price + space + cleanliness, I'd recommend Hotel Mela.
Overall - Okay
We stayed here from the 13th Feb, before arriving I was extremely worried given the other reviews. Overall the hotel is in a great location and is clean and comfortable. There were some marks on the carpet as mentioned in other reviews but the room itself looked and smelled very clean. The decor is a little dated, but that wasn’t important to us.
It’s definitely not a 4 star, more of a 2/3, but the amazing location definitely makes up for it and we weren’t too bothered as we were only looking for somewhere comfortable to rest our heads after a long day exploring.
If you’re looking for luxury - this is not the place for you. If you’re looking for convenience then it’s perfectly adequate.
Perfect location
I stayed here for a week and it was a perfect location. The room was clean and comfortable and the hotel had great wifi, it was a nice temperature for winter.
The only negative was a slight burn mark in the carpet in front of the bed but that didn’t really matter.
I would definitely stay here again as it was great value.
