Fantastic food and room for one eco-improvement
Fantastic veggie feast, lamb, and chicken tibs as always when we introduce friend after friend to this experience. So loud and echo-ey even those seated side by side could barely have a conversation, but our group had plenty of time to chat after we went home. Leftovers were kindly boxed for us--but in styrofoam boxes labeled recyclable type 6. Local cities recycling programs don't accept those, so it would be better to stop using styrofoam and switch to a more eco-friendly choice.

NOT worth the price. We ordered one vegetarian and one beef dish (and NO beverages) and it came to $90!! The waiter actually tricked us and brought more food then we ordered. It was like some sort of bait and switch game. We were with friends we hadn't seen in years, so we really weren't paying enough attention. When I brought it to the waiters attention that we only ordered 1 vegetable and 1 meat, they refused to take the extra meat dish off the bill... I've been around the world and I've never been treated so poorly in a restaurant before. They actually charged $4 for EACH teff bread. The waiter said something about wheat being cheaper and teff being very expensive. I've never been charged extra for the Ethiopian bread before. Then the waiter basically strong-armed us into getting four breads even though we only wanted 2. We asked the wait staff to give us a lot of alone time, since we hadn't seen these friends in 17 years, but they came over to the table every 5 - 10 minutes to interrupt our conversation. Like I said, the food was OK, I have had better Ethiopian for a quarter of the price. And considering they cheated us and would not fix the bill, I wish I could give them zero stars.

With multiple Ethiopian options on Fairfax, Meals by Genet is a must. Plus, I think the ambience is nicer and not as casual cafe style as the other restaurants on the street. Many times, Genet, drops by your table to make sure you liked everything, a nice touch. You can tell she cares about the food she makes and your experience. The high quality food is amazing and Sean's recommendations do not lead you astray. Plus, he provides excellent service with a friendliness not easily matched.

Meals by Genet is a small but lovely Ethiopian restaurant with delicious vegetarian options. Genet's tofu tibs are amazing as are all the vegtable side dishes. Service was prompt and helpful.

Small and intimate with friendly, smart service. Get the vegetarian combo platter with three proteins, share and be happy.

Having lived in Ethiopia for many ears I was expecting authentic flavors in this place. Unfortunately, the meal was bland and severely overpriced and the waiters were borderline pushy and condescending. The wine list was, likewise, overpriced.
As much as I want to support Ghenet's restaurant, I must say, it was a disappointment. Also, not a single Ethiopian staff member made the experience somewhat empty.
Delicious Ethiopian
Had delicious authentic Ethiopian food. Must recommend the chicken that takes two days to prepare. Enjoyed all the vegetable side dishes. Loved the gf injera option.

This restaurant came recommended by a friend, and the food and service did not disappoint. While a bit pricey, it was a fun experience, sharing the food all around, and the food was indeed tasty. The only issue was the noise level in the restaurant. We had seven at the table, and could only hear about every third word spoken. If they could dampen the noise in the space somehow, that would be great.
