Amazing food
We been trying to get a reservation for 5 months now, lucky our mates could not attend so we were call upon the last minutes.
Parking is at the back of the restaurant. Inside is small and yet spacious. We counted 22 patrons. The whole experience lasted 2 hrs 45 mins.
The two staff are very polite and attentive. Tea is part of the meal. From the start to the end it was wow. Even the pallet cleanser tasted amazing.
The Endamame, duck and salmon sushi was my favourite, my partner loved the Wagyu beef and octopus.
Well worth the experience.
Superb Marumo
Finally managed to secure a reservation at this highly sought after establishment.
and we were not disappointed, in fact we we blown away by the magnificent service, incredible food and general enjoyment and the simplicity yet complexity of the experience.
Having dined in a number of high-end restaurants in Perth I found that the food and presentation was the best ever.
Coupled with the sincere and delightful serving staff, this is the is an experience not to be missed.
Fantastic, thank you.
An experience worth waiting for
After waiting almost 3 years to successfully book a spot for dinner, my wife & I can vouch for the wonderful degustation experience that Chef Moe and his team do at Marumo.
From the moment we stepped in, to the time we exit 3 hrs later, we were made to feel welcome. The service was not rushed so allocate at least 2.5-3hrs for the dining.
The menu is seasonal and Chef Moe’s winter menu was a winner for us at $80 pp. The restaurant is very intimate and only offer around 20 pp capacity & they were very accommodating to our request to bring our newborn along in a pram so that we can breastfeed our baby between course.
The restaurant is BYO, and you will definitely enjoy the 3 hrs dining experience as time does fly when you are with the one you love. All the courses were tastefully curated and delicious, and the only complaint my wife had was that she would have loved more serving of their sashimi and seared beef steak. :)
We will be counting down to the next booking opening for their Spring menu.
Tips 1: booking is very difficult as the other reviews have already indicated. You just have to keep trying and refreshing your browser when the booking opens on the dot.
Tips 2: as it’s only a single seating of up to 3 hrs a night, try to book the earliest 7pm before the other diners arrived at their later booking times if you like to enjoy a bit of quiet time initially.
Birthday dinner
Difficult to review, in all honesty, as there was nothing to particularly mark it down on, but equally it didn’t feel like a five star experience! Also, and my wife and I argue about this, if there’s things a place just doesn’t do, in this case offer a drinks list, then I don’t think it can get full marks. It’s like hotels, if one doesn’t have a pool it simply can’t get five stars. You know what I mean?
Might as well start with the drinks and the fact I do actually love a BYO venue. Gave us an excuse to crack open a bottle of expensive Riesling (Rieslingfreak #1 if you’re interested) and a less expensive red (knew we’d be drunk by the time we got to it). Corkage though? When they do nothing with your bottles and aren’t serviced?
Enjoyed the food. We love Japanese and this seemed to be done with great care and with great produce. All the savoury courses were delicious, cooked beautifully, and quite filling overall.
Service lovely. It is slow, which we don’t mind. We were there 2.5 hours and that’s the idea. If anything I think we got through it faster than the average.
It’s a really intriguing venue, literally right on my least favourite road in Perth (Sterling Highway).
At $75 per head we think pretty good value.
It just lacked that wow factor and we did wonder if it’s a bit of a case of “emeperor’s new clothes”, it’s great, but probably doesn’t warrant the difficulty in getting a booking. And I know, marking down on being purely BYO when I love BYO. Definitely visit, if you can, not sure we’d bother returning.
Good food
After eating here for the first time, I think I understand why it's almost impossible to reserved a meal at this restaurant. It's a very small place, and the food is very good: fresh, cleverly prepared and cooked, and delicious. (Let my pictures speak for themselves.) I've come across acquaintances who said they wouldn't eat here again, or they weren't full when they left the restaurant. But I believe they were either begrudgingly the $75 they paid for the meal, the three hours they had to sirens there (they had no control how long they had to remain), or they didn't understand that food could be beautiful.
The business could be expanded, more staff could be employed, but I believe that if the owners want to continue to serve great delicious food, doing what they are doing now is the best way to ensure it. I will eat here again, given the opportunity. I wish I can eat here again.
Japanese fusion Omakase
Such a fantastic creation and the taste was absolutely divine!
One seating restaurant where you simply have the whole evening to taste the dishes one after another with your own favorite wine, sake or beverage.
Booking is required at the start of each season which can be a bit of a lucky dip.
Good luck!
Worth the wait!
This place is very hard to get a booking for but it is worth it! I have been here twice and was not disappointed either time. The food and service are incredible. I almost don't want to write this review as I don't want anyone else to know about it.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic dinner as usual
Have been lucky enough to dine here about 4-5 times in the last two years. Each time has been absolutely sensational. The service is great and the menu is always exceptional. I am a pescetarian and they have always accomodated me so well.

If you are looking for excellent Japanese food, the very best service and value ... then go to MARUMO.
In fact I don’t think I’ve ever been anywhere to beat it .... still trying to come down from the clouds... would not hesitate to recommend and will go again for sure... thank you!
This place deserves a Michelin Star
An intimate and exclusive restaurant where you have to beat other Marumo addicts to secure an online reservation - this place books out in seconds! The menu changes seasonally and I’ve never had the same dish twice. A journey through the finest delicacies is brought to you in 7 courses including a little palate cleanser before main course using the freshest and finest ingredients. Don’t let the sizes fool you, you definitely leave full. A word of advice, check their website for reservation openings and put it in your diary!
