Fantastic 3 course meal for $78 but too much food
Every detail and morsel was fantastic! However, the only way you can eat in the dining room is to each get the $78 three course meal, and it was just too much food for us. We hadn't even eaten lunch in anticipation. What would have suited us better was a shared appetizer, an entree each and a shared dessert. We walked out over-stuffed because we didn't want to waste a bite. There are multiple options to choose from for each course - you will absolutely find something amazing. They also add a 4% surcharge for increased food/staff/whatever costs. $60/each wine pairing wasn't for us, but we did find a nice bottle to share for $70. Valet parking only at $6; though maybe you can find parking farther into the complex? Would absolutely go back - maybe we need to try the bar area where we can order the amount of food we want.

We had multiple takeouts during the pandemic, the food is consistently really good. And the price is a bargain for what you get.
Be the first to ReplyOpen again and still great!
We were traveling to Del Mar for a few days of vacation, and were sad to see (when we arranged our trip) that Market Restaurant was closed because of covid restrictions. But, by re- checking closer to our trip we found that it just opened at 25% capacity, and snagged a reservation on April 1st. They were only offering a 3 course meal for $70, which was fine with us. As it turned out, there were numerous delicious selections on the menu.
Because of the decreased capacity, it was less crowded and hectic then usual, with less of the busy restaurant vibe. Nonetheless, the food and the experience was excellent, as always. Tables were far apart and we felt safe. Staff all wore masks. It was a fantastic meal, and this restaurant is highly recommended.
Attention to detail, Superb food quality and service
Del Mar is a beautiful community, when visiting always good to stay local rather than chain restaurants. The food choices were plentiful and prepared with a real attention to detail. The Service was first rate, and overall visit was excellent!
Be the first to ReplyDefinitely the BEST restaurant in Southern California!
I have never been disappointed by the fantastic food that the Market serves. Carl Shroder is the best chef in the Universe! They deserved a Michelin Star! Great wait staff and delicious fresh cocktails as well as a superb wine list!
Be the first to ReplyWorth extra price for special occasion dining
The only disappointment with our visit was that the desserts were soooo tiny and, frankly, not worth the prices we paid.
Other than that, the bread basket, our wine selection, the salads and entrees were all delicious. Service was exemplary (the staff quickly accommodated our request for a different table away from the busy entrance into the dining room) and the ambience - while lively - was just the right noise level to carry on a conversation.
Tip: If you're interested in the tasting menu, you need to give the restaurant a heads up at least 24-48 hours in advance. And it's designed for 2 or 4 people, so everyone has to be in agreement. We didn't know this, so we lost out on the opportunity but still had a great dinner.
Old School Vibe w/ Gr8 Service
We like this place for the vibe and service. Top notch sincere service! The food is very nice.
Some of the food is great and some dishes are nice. The lamb entree had only 2 small lamb chops which was odd. The starters were great.
The cocktails are nice and the bar is fast. The wine som was excellent!
Tgey have di ing room areas and an oldschool bar area where u can dine.
Valet parking is conscientious & efficient .
Busy but undoubtedly the best food in town
Our third time in the Market Restaurant and Bar over 15 years just confirmed our earlier conclusion that this place has the best food in San Diego. In fact, this is the only place so that we found to get close to Michelin star level regarding food. The three of us had three appetizers and two main courses. The appetizers were ORGANIC BABY BEETS & BURRATA CHEESE, HAMACHI SASHIMI & SESAME-NORI CRACKERS, and CHILLED DUNGENESS CRAB SALAD. All incredibly tasty: you immediately feel the quality (home grown organic!) and freshness of vegetables and a great talent of the chef. The entrees were PEANUT CRUSTED CABRILLA GROUPER & THAI RED CURRY and ROASTED DUCK BREAST & LEG CONFIT. Magnificent! Full of taste, flavors, structure, with elements of molecular gastronomy, and solid presentation. Service was too notch. Not cheap. Will be back as this establishment is #1 in the area!

Four of us went for my birthday. I had not been for years and I was taken aback at how incredibly flavorful the food was. I have added it to my list of favorite spots for a special evening.
Be the first to ReplyWill Live Up to Expectations
Pros: High end food, nice atmosphere
Cons: You have to pay for what you get
I came here for a working dinner, and had no expectations. In fact I was focused on the discussion, which was quite sensitive, so didn't give the food a second thought until the main course came through. Quite amazing. I had the duck which was fantastic, and my colleague had the cod which he said was amazing.
I only googled this restaurant once I got home and realized it ranked #1 in Del Mar. That is lofty expectations, but you shouldn't be disappointed
Fabulous Food and Service
We had a small family get together here and was not disappointed. The service was impeccable. Our server was there when needed and not obtrusive. The chef started us off with an amuse bouche. We all had beautifully appointed starters like Bleu Cheese Souffle or Beet Salad. Dinners were great: Sea Bass, Lamb Chops Cooked Three Ways, Beef Tenderloin. I had cheesecake and fig ice cream for desert, highly recommended. Not to be missed when ib Del Mar.
