If you're looking for a unique dining experience in Rome,
If you're looking for a unique dining experience in Rome, Marco Martini's Perception menu might be worth checking out. The dishes range from seafood to meat, with interesting flavor combinations that will surprise your taste buds. The Catalan octopus and shrimp cream is a standout dish, with a rich and flavorful cream sauce that complements the tender octopus and shrimp. The capricciosa cuttlefish is also worth trying, with its crispy exterior and tender interior. The club sandwich raviolo is a creative take on a classic sandwich, with a pasta shell filled with a mixture of meat and cheese. The Ajo e ojo linguina with baby squid and coppiette is a flavorful pasta dish with a nice balance of seafood and meat flavors. The beef peppers almond and olives is a hearty main course with a nice blend of spices and textures. For dessert, the pineapple paprika and coconut is an interesting combination of sweet and spicy flavors that will leave a lasting impression. Overall, while the Perception menu at Marco Martini is not without its flaws, it is a decent dining option for those looking for a more adventurous meal in Rome.
Be the first to ReplyThis is now called Marco Martini and it certainly deserves
This is now called Marco Martini and it certainly deserves a Michelin star. I arrived on time for a 7pm reservation and had the place to myself for the first hour. Romans don't believe in eating dinner until well after sunset and it gets dark. I'm more of the "Early Bird Special" type. A casual atmosphere. I was overdressed wearing a sport coat and tie. Jeans and polo shirt was the norm. It's fair to say the focus was on food rather than decor. The three types of bread presented a challenge: it was so good I was worrying about leaving room for the all the courses in the tasting menu. I ordered the ten course tasting menu with wine pairings. The amuse bouche was excellent. Five bites of various things, including carbonara in an egg shell that was stellar. The first course was cuttlefish sliced thin like pasta in Marina sauce. It was good, but now a common fine dining dish in Rome. Next, scallops in chorizo sauce with chard. This was an outstanding dish!Mantis shrimp in broth followed. Also outstanding. This was followed by ricotta ravioli with mussels and mussel foam. It was an unusual but flavorful combination. The subsequent spaghettini and clams in almond milk was also outstanding. I'm running out of superlatives. Fagotelli came next, stuffed with pork belly and in a broth with apples was quite good. But, nothing I've had anywhere can compare with Fagotelli La Pergola, which is in a class by itself. Squid was the first main course. It was good and cooked perfectly. But, I'm not a big fan of squid/calamari/cuttlefish. The next dish was pork belly or some other fatty cut of pork that I didn't care for, but this was a matter of personal taste not preparation. Dessert was a cinnamon cream with raisins and frozen apples and grapes. It was light but tasty. Petite Fours and cotton candy to conclude. Only one of the wine pairings was a palpable miss, but all of the wines were from small, iconoclastic sources. Only the Sangiovese seemed typical of the varietals. Service was impeccable throughout, even after the restaurant filled up a couple hours after I arrived. But, did seem to tail off towards the end. One complaint as so often occurs: after dessert, offer me coffee or offer me the bill. Don't make we wait 15 minutes for one or the other. The food was excellent and service was otherwise also excellent, until my last course or two. Really, why does it take 20 minutes to get the check?
Be the first to ReplyThis was my first sit down restaurant in Rome and the first
This was my first sit down restaurant in Rome and the first Michelin star restaurant I have been to in a very long time. I commend it for the excellent service and inventive dishes, including fantastic plating. However, I only gave it four stars because I thought the food was good, but not mind-blowing. Nevertheless, based on another yelp review, and the fact that I walked in with yoga pants and my northface sweater and they didnt turn me away, I would come back again and try the tasting menu.I ordered a primi, a secondi, and a dessert and the waiter recommended a nice wine. The primi was the carbonara raviolo with raw prawns and bits of pancetta served with a broth. It was unique but I was not blown away. The secondi was pigeon with celery root and pigeon liver served with a lovely decorations of edible leaves. It was a lovely presentation and it was cooked very nicely and I got it because I had never had pigeon. It was good but I was not blown away. The dessert was ricotta cheese with pear gel and chocolate crumbles and it had the right amount of texture and sweetness, not being overly sweet. I was a huge fan and would come back just for dessert! The amuse-bouche was also really fun and surprising. I do not think a description would do it justice but look at the photos I posted. There were amuse-bouche appetizer as well as amuse-bouche dessert. There was also homemade bread--the focaccia was the best but the others were okay (I am a total bread snob, however). In addition, as I was leaving, they brought me a bag with a biscuit for breakfast! It was a anise flavored biscuit with brown sugar.Service and welcoming nature was amazing! Thanks!
Be the first to ReplyMarco martini was the best meal I have ever had.
The creativity and genius behind the menu is like nothing I've ever experienced. The atmosphere is unique and the staff is top notch- they treat you like royalty. A must do when in Roma!!
Be the first to ReplyFor this meal, it was between Aroma and Marco Martini
For this meal, it was between Aroma and Marco Martini because of both restaurants' locations. However, Aroma would not guarantee a window table by the Colosseum (only near the window). Plus, Aroma looks like it has been around a long while. I thought Marco Martini would be much more inventive. This restaurant is slightly tucked away from most of the tourist craziness. We opted for the Empathy (ten course) tasting menu. The dining room as you can see from the pictures is understated modern, but it is clearly Mediterranean themed with the suggested elements of a pergola and vines twisting across the ceiling. According to the staff, the roof is rarely opened though. We dined on a Thursday and except for about three other occupied tables (all Western tourists), the restaurant was empty. It was almost one server dedicated per table with a runner. The meal was definitely inventive, and I give high praise for the presentation. Interestingly though, I noted a similarity in a couple of courses we had the night before at Moma -- (1) cuttlefish cut in thin strands like pasta. We preferred the cuttlefish at Moma largely because of the sauce and both restaurants offered a similarly presented (2) grilled pork/ pork belly. We believed the one prepared at Marco Martini was slightly superior.Service was flawless, which is important for Michelin status. In fact, when we arrived our server informed us the chef was already aware of my husband's lactose intolerance allergy and had already made modifications to the ten-course menu.We both enjoyed the meal. However, contemplating quality, service, and value this was not our best meal because of the higher price point. While I cant compare Marco Martini to any other Michelin-star restaurants in Rome, yet, if you are itching to dine at a Michelin-star restaurant, I think you will get a solid performance all the way around.
Be the first to ReplyI really had a wonderful time here, and would have given it
I really had a wonderful time here, and would have given it 5 stars if I didn't go to another Michelin-starred restaurant the next night that truly blew me away. Firstly, the decor was lovely--on the roof with lots of greenery--and our waiter was very sweet and on top of everything, including substitutions and suggestions.I started with the L'Idea di Martini, which was hands down the best martini I've ever had in my life; most are so strong with the flavor of alcohol that they don't even taste good, but this one was truly perfection, the way martinis are supposed to taste, with an actual flavor profile. It also helped that the presentation was very dramatic, with a full bar cart brought to the table, and a finish with a genie lamp that's been sprayed with aromatics to enhance the experience. For food, I had the rigatone al sudo di coda, which had a very unique sauce, almost like a Latin mole. It was paired with a daiquiri that, like the martini, is how a daiquiri should taste--not sweet at all, classic, and with hints of olive and chocolate in the powder on the rim. I followed that with the steamed ravioli with foam and crispy wafers, which was a very cool and delicious presentation. Honestly, I wanted to try everything on the main courses list, as it all looked absolutely amazing; it was very hard to decide. I wrapped it up with the smoked chocolate dessert, which was very unique.Amidst all of these courses, we received a constant stream of amuse-bouche, starting with a small, sweet cocktail in a jar and sushi-like piece of polenta. The next was a deconstructed carbonara, with a warm cream served in eggshells, along with a small square of sushi-like parmesan, a tiny omelet, and finished with a decanter of tomato juice. It was so fun!! And then at the end, a serving of dessert lollipops, tiny cookies, and caramel popcorn. I was afraid we would leave hungry, but with all these additions, it was a great night!
Be the first to ReplyI recommend getting the Menu Degustazione here, because it
I recommend getting the Menu Degustazione here, because it highlights the best dishes the restaurant has to offer. The portions are small, but each bite is flavorful and interesting. I saw folks at other tables ordering a la carte and they did not seem very thrilled with their one or two dishes.1 star off: Service can get very slow. As an American, I understand the Italians eat slower, but it was slower than several other Italian restaurants. We spent about 3 hours here. At the end of the night, although we had a delicious meal, we were impatiently waiting for our check to end that delicious meal.
Be the first to ReplyNot up to par for a Michelin starred restaurant.
Service was friendly, but slow and very basic. Food was only so-so and not worth the price. We had two appetizers and two pasta dishes. Wine recommendation was excellent. Disappointed.
