Pastries are fantastic.
Coffee was okay, but not outstanding.Unfortunately, the woman who helped us couldn't have been less friendly....Luckily, we just left and buttery flaky goodness of the pastries help to forget everything else!

Not much that hasn't been said dozens of times already - delicious, most popular picks are kouign amann and monkey bread (I also like the brown butter cake), not cheap, line moves quick, service staff seems to be half high school kids so don't expect to be blown away.

Food is good but service is so bad we are Indians and we were accused by this person on the register of stealing a loaf. We were given a racist treatment! This does not happen in the BAY area! We ordered 2 loaves! And we were asked to wait for the other loaf by the same guy! And when my husband asked for the second loaf, he was told that I took it. While I was waiting outside with my 2 year old on the benches that they have after ordering these two loaves. ! When my hubby asked me to come in to clarify, this person at the register argued and accused me of stealing a 10 $ loaf. I have never felt this bad! This guy argued with me that I stole the loaf, when I asked "what's going on?" They eventually gave my loaf, But no one apologized for the behavior of this person. I never post on yelp but I am posting this because I have a 2 year old and I don't want him to experience this when he grows up. Manresa management if you are listening Train your cashiers and employees at your store to be inclusive and respect diversity and inclusion and train them to be respectful. And I am shaken by that interaction that I had to defend myself for being falsely accused of stealing a loaf. Think this behavior was racist, please include diversity and inclusion in your training.

Was in Los Altos recently and was looking for a good bakery for some croissants. Manresa Bread popped up immediately on Yelp. It's located to the right of Linden Tree Books on State Street. There's plenty of street parking out front and a decent size lot behind the store.Manresa sells 3 different types of croissants; plain, chocolate, and almond. A few muffins, breads, and a couple of loaves. It's not a huge selection. While the almond croissant contained a generous amount of almond paste, the chocolate croissant was not so lucky. There was very little chocolate. Their plain croissant was very flaky and buttery though. They also serve a variety of espresso and coffee drinks. The service was OK. The employees weren't particularly friendly or welcoming but at the same time weren't rude. There were "just there". I guess I expected a bit more enthusiasm or warmth from the staff.
Be the first to ReplyLove the sliced bread, muffins, croissants.
Biggest complaint is some of the staff have been consistently unfriendly.
Be the first to ReplyGreat little bakery in Los Gatos.
Went here for dessert after lunch. Delicious pastries. The only downside was the price was a little high for the quality. But overall, would go again. Definitely for the cranberry cheese Danish.

Our usual go to place around the area for pastries is closed today... decided to have some to go at Manresa. Honestly, I'm very disappointed... got a slice of quiche for 15 $$ , nothing special at all. Almond croissant was dry, are these pastries cooked days ahead? Also, the girls a the could at least be friendlier.

This is a nice and inviting spot to relax and enjoy a cup of coffee and nice pastries. The staff is friendly and always eager to help. I enjoy coming here every now and then. The place as a nice worm and inviting atmosphere.

I got the last baguette and the special pastry with pineapple. The baguette is pretty good, it has good flavor and texture of a more rustic bread. The pastry was not very good. Very dense, lots of butter, so I think it's the kouign amann dough for the base. It was too chewy, not flaky, and felt just greasy. The topping is good but the base just ruined it for me. The Backhaus San Mateo is still the best of this rustic bakery style for me.

Delicious pastries where you can't really go wrong with anything you choose.Kouign Amann - Very flaky and crispy where the layers just shatter upon biting. Compared to Satura down the street, I like how the caramel isn't as sweet or sticky either. So it wasn't too rich and tasted well balanced.Pain Au Chocolat - Light, flaky, and not too heavy despite there being a good amount of chocolate layered throughout. It also didn't taste like your standard chocolate as it had a nice complexity to it as well.Monkey Bread - Quite flavorful with fragrant warm spices interwoven throughout the layers. The bottom also provided a nice crunch.WW Chocolate Chip Cookie - Pretty walnut heavy where I tasted more nut than chocolate. The cookie leans more towards the soft side and I like how it's not too sweet.

Breads are amazing, but they frequently run out of items so be sure to stop in early!I really liked the quiche, but only after warming in the microwave. Unfortunately, I assumed it would be served as it should be consumed (we were having a picnic). But it was served cold - so I ate half of it before realizing I'll need to take it home to warm it.

Excellent sourdough and pastries. I got a chocolate croissant and loaf of sourdough.

Very high prices, ok quality, indifferent service from staff that seems quite unhappy working there...not a good combo that would make me come back

I tried my first kouign amann and enjoyed it! It's like a multi layered croissant that's sticky & sweet but also crunchy. Also got a soyrizo croissant which was delicious-- appreciate that they offer a vegetarian-friendly savory item. Tried a hot monkey bread oat latte, which tasted like warm cinnamon & molasses. The total for these 3 goodies was about ~$20 so it's on the pricier side but a nice treat.

I found a Manresa Bakery in Los Altos and I love this special bread! I hope they might consider opening a Manresa in Santa Cruz!

No reason to go if you can't be there between the limited window the have stock and every time they are sold except for the ordinary bread by 12:00 . Love David Kinch but he needs to address the issue because this place is damaging his reputation . The staff is completely lifeless but it's hard to get staff that isn't on life support to top it off .

I got the kouign-amann from here through a local delivery service, and thought it was good but nothing spectacular. I've never had one of them before then, and was pleasantly surprised by the flaky layers and subtle sweetness. It reminded me of a crispy croissant with a touch of sweetness. However, it was a bit dry and tasted slightly stale as well. I can't comment on the in person experience since it was delivery, but I'd like to try it again going into the store next time!
Be the first to ReplyHave been coming here very regularly for the last 1.
5 years. Espresso and bread is still the best of all of Los Altos. The quality of everything else has been going down. Service is not on top of things and half of the stuff is sold out by 10:30am. For the price, one expects much more.
Be the first to ReplySadly service has gone downhill rapidly.
Chai is no longer consistently made well. Quiche comes served cold, most recently frozen with ice chunks. When asked if it could be warmed the answer was no they have no heater. Why sell something inedible on-site with no warning or apology. Really a sad decline from what was my former favorite cafe in Los Altos.
Be the first to ReplyOur favorite was the Kougin Amann.
Service is very friendly, nice neighborhood to walk around, nice amount of parking. The Ham and Cheese brioche is pretty unique and gets a 5/5 aesthetics but 4/5 taste. Chocolate croissant was kind of average.Would recommend ordering ahead online, they will also make your coffee upon your arrival. We greatly appreciated that.
