Maido Miraflores Reviews from The Last Year
Number 6? A joke?
Underwhelmed. We had extremely high expectations for this restaurant given its rating but the courses did not complement each other and were often uninspired. The best course we had was the toro and uni which was the only course that was simply raw ingredients. We could not get rid of the taste of some of the courses which the flavors were overpowering. We had to ask for ginger to attempt to cleanse our palette which did not work. An exceptionally heavy soup was served early on which killed our enjoyment of the following courses. It felt like the experience was crafted for tourists who are willing to pay a premium for a top restaurant, as opposed to a carefully curated experience for those who want to experience the best food in the world. For the three of us who dine, two are experiencing G.I. symptoms after the meal. If you are in Lima and have an unlimited budget, sure give it a try if you don’t have a flight the next day, otherwise try Kjolle if you want to indulge in exceptional like flavors and celebrity like experience.
Crazy good!
We had the tasting menu which is their 11-course meal and it was so delicious! Of course there were dishes we liked more than others but overall it was nice to get a little insight into their cuisine. The whole menu went together quite effortlessly, it had a good flow. None of the tastes were competing with each other much rather they were setting each other up for the best taste… it was a bit like a play, where at first you get introduced to the pallet of tastes and then it comes to a climax with the ramen where it was intense and then you get mellowed out and led to the dessert finale. Super super super good! Our waiter was great as well, and the ambience was nice! The walls are mirrored which makes the room seem bigger but you’ve still got your privacy which makes for a great date spot as well. ☺️
Overpriced for untasty food
OVERPRICED for what it is the restaurant itself! First they don’t have dress code, thats awful, people were having dinner in shorts and flip flops, not what I expected at all, also de dinner went okay, we had the “Maido experience”, but non of the dishes I would order ever again if I had the opportunity on the menu, because they where ok but not to go crazy about it or tasty at all, I don’t remember one single dish from the 11 course that I liked it, the ambience it’s too loud, lights are awkward, service it’s okay I mean for the best restaurant in Latin America you expect they are not at least servers talking about their tables on your back, we were seated at the bar by the way… Bathrooms have very cheap plastic bins Trust me you can eat wayyyyyy better around Lima with the 10% you’ll spend in Maido.
Amazing
I went to Lima with my wife last year for my birthday and we just had to try one of the city's flagship restaurants. We decided on Maido cause Nikkei is our favorite style of Peruvian food. We booked a reservation for 4:30PM, initially we were looking for dinner reservations, but there were no spots available at the day we decided to go (book early, as early as you can). It turned out for the best, and I'll elaborate why further on. I'm no food critic or anything, so I'll spare the fellow reader from any review of the food and focus on the experience itself. We opted for the 11 course menu with no harmonization. We're not super into wines so figured it wouldn't be worth it. The place is beautiful without being lavish. Minimalist atmosphere, very quiet and cozy. I wasn't informed of any dress code and just went with a t-shirt and a bomber jacket. It was fine, no worries about that. First thing to know is to free your schedule on the day of the visit. Specially if you're ordering the tasting menu. I think we spent almost 4 hours at the restaurant and it was worth every minute. This is not a meal, this is an experience. Set time apart, and get yourself in the right headspace to just go enjoy the best food you'll ever eat without anything else on the back of your head. The courses take time from one to the other, you'll take time tasting them, do not squeeze this on a day with a ton of other activities, it'll ruin the experience. Be very wary of the time you're booking your reservation and plan accordingly. The courses look small but it is a lot of food. Keep in mind how your body reacts to a big meal in a long time span to make sure you're making the most of it. Like I mentioned before, had I booked a late dinner my experience wouldn't be as good as I would've had a poor night's sleep. Again, the tasting menu is a lot of food for the average person. The staff was great, very friendly and thoughtful, and just makes you feel very welcome. Everything is so thought out and meticulously well made you won't even bother the check (this one does hurt). I even got an additional dessert as a birthday gift. I never mentioned my birthday in there, but I may have made the comment on my reservation, can't really recall it. But I was mindblown by how thoughtful and caring that was. Specially as it had congratulations written in portuguese (my native language). Treat yourself a visit to Maido. It was hands down one of the best experiences of my life, you will not regret it.
Best restaurant I have ever visited
Just absolutely magnificent from start to finish. Went three times during my stay in Lima, despite the cost. Can't fathom the negative reviews, must be philistines. Don't miss this restaurant on your trio to Lima.
Probably the best food we have ever eaten
Superb from start to finish. We ordered the full tasting menu 1x vegetarian 1x standard. All courses were exquisite and the service excellent. We were a walk-in and despite them being packed they managed to find us a table and I am glad they did! Favourite dish was the scallop with bernaise, lime, beef reduction and cassava crisps from the Amazon!
Great food and great service
Maido restaurant was fantastic from the very start. The service was great and very attentive. The food was fantastic and extremely tasty. Every dish was made right there and with fresh ingredients. Absolutely recommendable.

I have a notice stating that my bid has been accepted and is awaiting transfer. The reservation is for the 18th, but the “moderator” said he will confirm booking by the 28th. Is this an indicator that I may not have a reservation?

Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
