Must have been an off-day
Given most of the reviews I’m guessing we chose an off day to dine at this restaurant. Having said that there should not be any off days given where it positions itself, price-wise. Apart from the Prawn Cocktail starter (which was really good), the main dishes that my date and I had (steak and lamb) were both bland (unseasoned), overcooked and tasteless. The oil used to cook the fries was clearly well-used, given the smell and taste. Overall not a good dining experience and not one that I would look to repeat. What is more we were sat next to a group of rowdy individuals making it difficult for us to converse. Service given by the waiters was mixed. When told by my date that she wanted to keep the remainder of her starter (that she was unable to finish) the waiter obliged by returning it in a paper bag whilst we were being served our main dishes. Not good. Why he didn’t simply return it at the end of the evening, when the meal was being paid for is a mystery. Unlike others, I cannot speak highly of this restaurant, at all. Sorry!
Be the first to ReplyLovely environment, but not so much the food!
If there were stars for the venue, I’d have given five as the Ned itself and indeed the grill, are beautiful, but the food ….. To be fair the service was excellent and you were made to feel very welcome. The prices though, are extortionate; a price for the main and a price for the accompaniments and of course any staters or desserts, drinks etc. I have to admit I panicked when I saw it and tried to choose wisely! Prawn cocktail £21 and although lovely, there was nothing special about it. I chose the cheapest steak, a rump at £37 with cabbage at £8 and very salty chips £8. I asked for well done; my steak knife struggled to cut it, it was like chewing leather and I have had beautifully cooked well done steak at other restaurants and at home, so I know it’s possible! Sadly I can’t recommend Lutyens grill at the Ned because the food just isn’t good enough for the price, but the venue and staff are great.
Be the first to ReplyUpmarket Steak Restaurant
Visited for a business lunch. Restaurant is on ground floor of The Ned in an area formerly used as a banking office. The place is atmospheric and food is very good, which you’d expect at the price point. Our table had a variety of steak cuts, lobster and fish for mains and all were excellent. Service a little aloof.
Be the first to ReplyVery enjoyable but not Pittsburgh as ordered
We shared two steaks, a Longhorn ribeye and a Sashi sirloin, both to be cooked medium-rare charred. They were medium rare but lacked the full charred exterior we had been hoping for. The starters and main course accompaniments were good but not excellent. Service was very good and the ambience was nice and clubby. Overall though, Very Good but room for improvement
Be the first to ReplyA great afternoon treat
See my review of the hotel. The afternoon drink and two food items are very good value. We had two glasses of good wine and four more than adequate plates of food.
Be the first to ReplyLovely evening with amazing staff
Really enjoyed our evening here, we were on a business dinner and it was a great choice. Food was very good and service was excellent. If you are looking for a quieter more intimate spot at the ned this is a good choice. At the end of the evening the waitress knew there was a long queue for the cloakroom and she went and got all of our coats to save us waiting! Now that’s what you call great service 😊
Be the first to ReplyIf you want to play at the top, everything counts
The ambiance is lovely, Dark with wood panels. It evokes the feeling of a gentlemen's club. The wait staff is prime and attentive. The menu provides top quality food and drinks....BUT.... if you want to put your self out as a truly superior eating establishment, the little things count a big things especially with a big price tag. ie the filet magnon and pork chop, although being top quality and were properly cooked but were dry and lacked any juice. The sides tasted fine but were plopped on a plate with no presentation. In total, if this were a steak house and served stake of this quality but not juicy, but The Ned aspires to be more.. sadly it fails.

Just wanted to say how amazing the entire experience was from start to finish, the customer service by Boris was impeccable, his knowledge of the menu and wines was beyond impressive pairing each course with the best wine and I am looking forward to coming back here again and again. He really does contribute to the the premium location living up to premium expectations for your venue
Be the first to ReplyNice quite spot in the Ned.
I really like the Ned and this particular part is good as it’s quite and more private as it’s at the back of the main area. Food is good but steak was not blue as ordered. Nice wine list. Service was a bit pushy …should not have been as not required….should probably read the audience better. But overall good.
Be the first to ReplyLittle arrogant. Needs to try harder.
Not the first time in Lutyens and not the first time it has disappointed. Mainly with the food quality for the price. We ate in a group of 8 (bill was approx £1000). Think in general is that it is so popular in a great location that they don't need repeat business and that's the impression you're left with when you've shelled out big money on average food.
The best bits:
- The scallops starter (although £22) were amazing.
- Wine was good
- My dauphinoise were to die for
The bad bits:
- There is a sales pitch for specials but no price list. So it's either a trap with extortionate prices, or it makes you feel poor to ask.
- Nearly all of the steaks were overcooked. Most asked for medium rare and got medium. Mine i asked for blue and it was at best rare.
- No option to correct the mistakes which is arrogant. My wife said her steak was overcooked and the waiter said 'oh well' and walked away.
- At the £45 mark for most of the standard steaks, you'd expect them to be amazing, but I've had better fillets in my local gastropub for half the price.
- £7 for every accompanyment. So a steak with a sauce and fries and vegetables will be over £60. For £7 the fries needed to be heavenly and they are just regular frozen fries you get everywhere. Not even a dusting of something exotic.
Left still feeling peckish.
great meal
dinner for four, steak tartare along with lobster, just amazing and of course some caviar to start , top service, good wines, helpful service
Be the first to ReplyFriends catch up,
As you walk in you know you are in a special place, It was a Sunday , place was buzzing, band playing in the middle, sat and had a drink soaking up the atmosphere and the ambience,
Lutyens restaurant was just at the back , the old bank managers office, oak panelled walls, quite small and intimate, food was excellent. Service was excellent as you would expect , and the wine very good and expensive , however it’s what to expect in the centre of London and in a top restaurant like this ,
Definitely recommend and will be coming back ,
Outstanding business lunch
A good old fashioned ,wood panelled room with staff in white jackets who actually write down your order on a pad - the traditional way!
Lovely fish, beef etc all perfectly cooked and served by real professional and friendly staff. The beef wellington is an absolute must - don't miss it!

Be the first to ReplyExcellent
I remember reading about the Lutyens Grill when The Ned opened and tried to book. It was a private dining room originally but times change, and I was pleased to be able to book a table during our last weekend in London.
After a couple of drinks on the central concourse listening to the band, we took our table and ordered the champagne scallops followed by the Chateaubriand. The scallops were amazing and, fair to say, the best I’ve had. S and I were seriously thinking about ordering another plate each, but the steak arrived before we could take the plunge. The Chateaubriand was excellent and spot on for medium rare with some medium bits on the ends. I had “Mac’n’cheese” as a side, but it could have done with the usual jalapenos to balance the richness of the sauce.
The service was formal but well-informed and friendly and hats off to Antonio (he of the white tuxedo) for making it such a memorable meal.
Worst steak in a long time and poor service
We came to celebrate a friends bithday and ordered steak. It was taking quite a long tine to arrive and the waiter kept coming to our table to apologise but there were many groups to serve but that it would be here soon. The final time he came (and we had waited more than 40 mins by then)he said that actually our steaks were on time but blamed us for having ordered them well done, so that was why it was taking longer. I suggested he might give us something on the house while we waited but he didnt. Better service had in a fish and chips shop. The steaks arrived and they were charcoal and difficult to eat. A steak restsurant that doesnt know how to make juicy tender well done steak and charges extortionate prices.
I ordered a coffee and it was undrinkable like bitter dishwater. I told the waiter who simply took it away from me without apologising or asking if i wanted anything else.
I would not recommended consuming here to anybody. Such a shame as the whole Ned concept is amazing.
