Terrible communication skills
Developed Covid symptoms on the morning of the lunch with photographic proof of the RAT test. Left a message immediately (10am) and they phoned back to say "How are you ... and we will be charging you since the restaurant has ordered in the food." Shocking communication skills!!
Be the first to ReplyPoor Service
Four of us were having lunch at LuMi restaurant to celebrate my best friends birthday. Food was great but the service was subpar for a fine dining restaurant. We're pretty sure we made reservations with a unique birthday celebration. But at the end we did not receive any candles/ wishes whatsoever. That's extremely disappointing! Taking our drinks order was a nightmare for their waitress/waiter who showed poor English Comprehension. The final point was that our bill was overcharged which we forgot to ask for the receipt. Sigh''

Great food, great atmosphere. Attendants super knowledgeable and attentive. Would return in a heart beat for the next celebration!

Beautiful location. Incredible food. Service not quite up to expected standard for level of restaurant - at least six different wait staff and while professional it wasn’t very personable… Also for a fine dining restaurant the bathrooms were pretty average (bit gritty and dozens of spare ‘who gives a crap’ toilet rolls on display). Seems picky but isn’t this one of Sydney’s top top restaurants. Wouldn’t care otherwise.

One of the most refined establishments I've ever eaten in. Such an elegant and inventive tasting menu with impeccably paired wines. Photos do no justice to the absolute joy to the palate this menu offers. I don't know how the LuMi team do it. Each visit excels the last. An absolute joy

Stay away. I hope they will choke with my money. Lumi charged my card for non show even i cancelled my reservation more then 48hrs. I hope that just one or two persons will decide not to dine with Lumi - thanks to my opinion. Be carefull with your credit card. They will charge it without any hasitation. There is so many good restaurants in Sydney like Quey, Bennelong, Tetsuya's - so go and dine elseware.
Be the first to ReplyBest reason to visit Pyrmont
Some contention in the relationship concerning which was the better meal of our weekend; here or Oncore. I think we both agree that Oncore is probably objectively slightly better and would be the one we recommended to people who were just visiting and couldn’t do both, but my wife is adamant she enjoyed lunch at Lumi more than the previous night’s dinner at Oncore. I’d been to Lumi once before, soon after it had first opened. The room was slightly different to my memory, but can’t really put my finger on what had changed. Certainly elegant, well spaced, and cooled by a lovely cross wind. Very comfortable and relaxed setting. Food, I think, has trended more toward the Japanese, but still retains plenty of Italian influence. Really, really delicious. Difficult to choose a favourite dish, but certainly not a single bad one, or even mediocre. Nice how you could customise each course by adding caviar or truffle and the service were knowledgeable regarding which dishes to pair each with. Probably a little bit unnecessary, not sure it enhances the meal too much, but that’s more because it was very good anyway. In all other ways service was relaxed, knowledgeable, and attentive without being overbearing. Certainly in our Top 5 Sydney restaurants and highly recommend. It’s quite fun just to be in Pyrmont for something other than the sports bar at the casino!
Be the first to ReplyCongrats Sydney! This is super awesome! (Coming from a Melbourne foodie.)
We are having a Christmas with a difference this year. With no immediate family around, I jumped at the opportunity to spend a week in the middle of Sydney housesitting and cat-sitting. We booked in for Christmas Eve to #lumirestaurant which is just a 10 min walk from us. $350 set menu only tonight, with another $240 premium wine pairing and I am going to bed happy. The pride the chefs take in their work is evident. The servers also delighted in serving their customers and we had the loveliest meal and wine pairing. 👏 👏 👏
Be the first to ReplyOver-rated well presented but mostly salty dishes
Not so easy to get a table for this well known restaurant. Very beautiful location on a marina near Darling Harbour. The dishes were very well and beautifully presented. Quality of the ingredients were very good, lots of osetra caviar, maybe too much and dominated the taste of most of the snacks (gunkan). But in our opinion, even without caviar, most of the dishes were tending to saltiness. The best fine dining awarded restaurants we went mostly presented dishes with balanced taste wothout dominance of saltiness (balance of sweet sour and saltiness).

Stunning setting and with the open kitchen the process of preparing and serving courses becomes part of the experience. We had the tasting menu with truffle and caviar- at $350pp it is quite pricey. Unfortunately the truffle is end of season and West Australian so had no truffle smell or taste (for our palates anyway) but that is the only criticism we can make of an amazing 12 course tasting experience. The stand outs were the Marron that had a gorgeous char grilled smokey flavour and the best beurre blanc I’ve ever had. The wagyu beef was delicate and delicious. I don’t eat desserts but tried the 2 desserts and ate just about all of them. The service was exceptional (although making a group of us queue up outside because you wouldn’t open the door until exactly 6pm seemed petty and unnecessary). Great cocktail and wine list with knowledgeable staff. It was a meal experience that will stay with us for a long time.

One of the best culinary experience we’ve had. We actually specifically traveled to Sydney for it and it did not disappoint. The food is something else.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food, fantastic people and a real treat!
We had been wanting to visit for some time but despite a few unsuccessful attempts in getting the planets aligned and getting a booking that worked with other schedules we were so excited to be able to have lunch there. We weren't disappointed. The staff were lovely, the atmosphere relaxed and each course and wine pairing presented with flair and an explanation of what we were getting. It's not a cheap experience but the prices are no secret and value I guess is in the eyes and budget of the diner but we thought it was a lovely experience and thoroughly enjoyed the meal and ourselves experiencing the menu. Thanks to everyone at the venue and we hope to see you again.
Be the first to ReplyMixing Italian with Japanese to create WOW
My wife and I had dinner at Lumi just before New Year. We had the 17 course dinner and it was too much for us. We should have chosen the smaller menu. The issue was that there was too much food for us and we could not do the chef justice by enjoying every dish to the end.
The dishes are a culinary masterpiece where the flavour and cooking matches the art that sit on each plate.
The service was impeccable.
This is true fine dining and with the price point to match. Our degustation was $320 per head and even though this is expensive it was worth every cent.
A great new addition to my restaurant circuit
LuMi is a new addition to my restaurant circuit. It is tucked away in Pyrmont near a small marina. The food was fantastic and the staff friendly. The tasting menu while not cheap was a non-stop stream of dishes all of which have a wow factor. We lost count at about 10. They consisted on very inventive interpretation of what seem to be common but were such and new way of thinking of food. They call it Italian with a Japanese influence but that doesn’t even do it justice. The staff were friendly and very happy to advise, the wine list was marvellous.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing Degustation
Lumi offers true degustation fine dining with a variety of meat, seafood and vegetarian dishes. Every plate of food was delicious with knowledgeable and friendly service staff and some interesting wine pairings. The Murray Cod was undoubtedly my favourite dish.
True Fine Dining.
Great degustation
We did the 14 course degustation with the matching wines and could not have asked for a better lunch. Food and wines were excellent and well paired. We got to try lots of different foods, all of which were served beautifully and tasted great. All great quality.
Could not fault the service in any way, staff were very attentive and friendly. The location is beautiful and we loved having a table looking out over the water. The atmosphere in the restaurant was nice without being overly formal.
Would definitely recommend and go again!
Mushy pasty food with little texture and overpriced++++++
Lovely location, very knowledgeble somelier, uninterested waitress and worst food I have tasted for $255 per head. 10 courses, started off very well and gradually deteriorated. Food mainly little mouth sized parcels some lovely but mostly very ordinary. Skin on the ravoli dumplings was so thick, wagyu beef was the worst I have had - one thin slice and it was so tough to chew. Isn't it meant to melt in your mouth? Apparently the best out of Japan too! Grossly overpriced and without the alcohol. What we got compared to other top Sydney restaurants was disappointing. Happy to pay for good food. Waitress showed her displeasure when there was no tip.
Be the first to ReplyOver priced and pushy staff
Good ambience though food does not warrant the excessive price. We had the Tasting menu at $195 a pop. Our waiter kept trying to push the oysters, caviar and extra pasta several times. Good luck finding a good wine under $100. Food was disappointing judging by the reputation of the restaurant. Many dishes over complicated with competing flavours. Won’t be back as Sydney had better restaurants at much better value
Be the first to ReplyDegustation pretty good
We had the 6pm sitting for the degustation tasting menu, arrived on time and were promptly seated. The yuzushu sour and Umeshu were delicious. "Snacks" arrived promptly and were works of art in themselves and tasted as good as they looked. The items from the tasting menu arrived in different timeframes with each item described rather quickly by the server, which was a shame as we could not hear the description. The first four items were beautifully constructed with very interesting flavours. The middle three were very rich, so if you have a dairy intolerance this is probably not the best place to eat. The 8th item, the wagyu beef was super. The last items, the desserts were disappointing and loaded with diary. If you are going there for a birthday, all they will do is place a candle in your dessert, so do not expect a tiny morsel, despite paying $200 per person. The vibe is very relaxed with pecular background music ie. boogie wonderland was playing and the furniture could use an upgrade -scratches on the wooden tables and chairs a bit worn. Host was super casual, a bit too casual for our liking and at 7:45 we were told our last items would be served promptly and we were asked to leave by 8pm. Bit strange, as they controlled when the food was served - there was a 20 minute gap between some courses. We also were not presented with a drink list during our entrees, so had to ask to see the drinks menu and even then we were not asked if we would like another drink. I tried calling and emailing them after booking and received a reply 2 weeks after and on the day we were to attend. Overall, there are culinary delights within the degustation. The 3 rich entrees could benefit from not being served one after the other and improve the dessert - It should be the finale! Service and ambience could also be improved and maybe rethink the background music.

Lumi has one of the best tasting menus that Sydney has to offer. Every dish is made with meticulous attention to detail and is absolutely stunning. The restaurant offers a nice wine list and interesting wine pairing options. Undoubtedly one of Sydney’s finest restaurants.

The best Italian food in Australia.
Lumi delivers at every course of the tasting menu, the wine options & wine pairings were beautiful. I cannot fault the experience from start to finish.
