LUCIANO Cucina Italiana - Roma Reviews from The Last Year
Excellent
The perfect place for a romantic evening. Be careful if you're looking for where to eat in Rome, this is where it's at. It's a perfect restaurant for foodies like us. Their dishes are exceptional and very well cooked, hearty and without leaving us feeling upset. Consider having their signature dish the “spaghetti carbonara” which is the best we have eaten with an accompaniment of a local white wine recommended by one of the waiters. We have nothing to say about the service, the wait for the dishes or the atmosphere as long as everything has been well managed. However, remember to book in advance because the restaurant is full.
Grazie, Chef Luciano! Grazie, Matteo Lane!
Delicious! Fancy! Did we mention delicious? Expect to be patient as dishes are clearly cooked from scratch with utmost care - we managed to get through this ‘torture’ by supping sensational wine and people-watching on the bustling streets as sunset brushed the cobblestones. The leek starter was moan-inducingly flavoursome and the pigeon main course a lively reward for my culinary bravey. The carbonara is plentiful and blatantly signaling its Michelin star opulence. Gnam! Special mention and thanks to Matteo Lane for promoting Luciano’s - we were thrilled to make this pilgrimage and savour the food, wine and ambience. People complaining about the limited menu and/or Italian descriptions … really? Remember which country you’re in and celebrate the craftsmanship of simple, selective creations. Chef Luciano and team - Ti vogliamo bene :)
Absolutely perfect
In a trip spotted left and right with different interpretations of carbonara, Luciano makes far and away the best. The difference in my opinion is all in the guanciale, they get it perfectly crispy without it being bitter and it isn't too fatty. It also doesn't leave you feeling bloated like a lot of pasta dishes do. It does contain more sauce than other carbonara dishes I've had here, which is apparently not as traditional, but it was a plus for me because the bread they serve is perfect for scarpetta. Some users have complained in their reviews that an Italian restaurant in the heart of Italy had the audacity to have their menu in Italian. Their sense of entitlement isn't the only thing wrong with their reviews, the menus do have English subtitles, and they don't appear new enough to have been in response to the whining. One thing I did not notice in my visit, but was clued into upon reading the reviews here was that the restaurant do not allow children. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Luciano for being so progressive to consider the childfree community in writing the policy for YOUR restaurant!
Great place
Great food and atmosphere. Highly recommend. Very close to the shopping area. Excellent service and the drinks were also great.
Not pleased
Very unhappy with the service, waited for 1 hour for our food, unhappy with the food, too small the portions, quality relatively good.
First the Pope, then the Pasta
Great service, excellent Pasta Carbonara. To our great joy we see the Pope speak midday, and mr Luciano himself at dinner. Such a nice and gentle top chef ! Thank you
Overall terrible experience
We waited an hour to get food. The food was mediocre as was the wine. Overpriced place. Arrogant service. We came for the gluten free pasta option, but not worth it.
Halter booking
Booked at 5pm with a guarantee request of 70 euros. After five minutes I discovered I couldn't go: I called and they refused to cancel the reservation without making me pay the full penalty. I have never had to submit to such a penalizing booking system. Despite the problems that arose, I went so as not to lose the 70 euros. I would not return to this restaurant even if the meal I will have is worthy of a three Michelin star at the cost of a trattoria. The meal was not 3-star and the bill was not restaurant-worthy! I'll get over it. Never again
Terrible waiter
The waiter was very unpleasant, the menu was on 1 sheet of paper, only in Italian. When we asked the waiter to explain what was on the menu, he spoke 90% Italian and only two or three words in English. When we told him we don’t want to order food, because we couldn’t understand what we are ordering, he got very angry. Paid 4 euros for the water we didn’t even drink. He told us that this isn’t the place where we could just have a drink . Awful service…
Go for the Carbonara, then leave as quick as possible.
The Carbonara was one the The Great Carbonaras. But that was the only great thing about this underwhelming experience. For a start, eating outdoors should not mean "wrapped in clingfilm". I do notice it is "a la mode" in Rome now, but it is no less disgusting for that. We were not so much "welcomed" as "shown to our seat", and the staff were as brusque and un-inviting for the rest of the evening. My partner asked for Tea. A simple "No" would have sufficed, without rolling his eyes at her. Not nice. Watch out for the main called "Mackerel, Potatoes, Tomatoes" on the menu - turns out it has quite a lot of horseradish! An Irish mackerel would have enough taste to bear that sauce, but it seems Italian mackerel is just not up to that. And as someone who doesn't actually like radish - the entire plate was just not nice. Such a strong taste should've been mentioned on menu. The wine list was extensive, but none of the wines on the first few pages were actually available. Overall a great let down, and sorry I took Alex's advice
An experience you don't want
This restaurant is well located in Rome. However, Luciano is apparently managing his business like an autocrate. Server are robots, fear any critics, any mistakes, generating stress among clients and the team. Luciano thinks he has a concept, but its just a restaurant. And in Rome there are lot of very nice restaurants with friendly Chef. But if you want to go, don't forget: no kids, fordidden to play cards during dinner, be on time and leave before the next service, and don't forget to compliment the Chef.
Went to Rome to eat there
Cacio e pepe pasta was excellent. Lucianos signature carbonara - maybe i had too much of 3xpectation... But also fine. We were surprised with bar downstairs, the wc was not so clean as to expected.

Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.

Can come from a lot of places, people who don't want to get charged their cancellation fee or people who just have them and cant go.

almost all restaurants aren't affiliated with AT and I'm guessing it's mostly people wanting to not pay cancellation fees.
