Yum!
Oh, wow! If you are close to Union Station or just want some good eats, this IS your breakfast stop! The service was impeccable. They accommodate special dietary needs (I am GF-DF.). It is LOUD, and you may have to aggressively seat yourself. BUT, it is worth it!
Be the first to ReplyWe eat here whenever we are near Union Station
We like to come to Chicago on the train and our train home leaves at 2 PM. So Lou Mitchell's is a convenient place to have lunch near Union Station. We love it here. The staff are super friendly and the food is great (and plenty of it). We both had the open-face Reuben - a big stack of corned beef with sauerkraut and dressing and cheese on marble rye bread. Yummy! There's room to store your luggage while you eat and even though there is always a line when we go, the wait is negligible.

We were here again in November 2023. This is a Chicago classic, which turns 100 years old this year and has not lost any quality or attention since the last time we were there. We had a fruit salad, some toast, some chocolate pancakes, a coffee and a juice for $38
Be the first to ReplyMandatory stop
A stop in this place must be a must on your trip to Chicago. Abundant sweet and savory breakfasts. Classic American movie style.

Food was not seasoned at all. Very disappointing. Got meatloaf, if was almost inedible. Took two bites. Loaded fries- no salt. Coffee tasted like mud.

Our family of four ate here for breakfast yesterday. The service couldn't have been better. Friendly and fast. Delicious food!
Be the first to ReplyOutrageous prices
The prices are outrageous..wont be returning unless they come back to reality. 1 egg.5.00?, 3.25 for a tea bag plus tax and tip? Restaurants are just losing their minds.

Everything was great!! The food and service were wonderful. It’s been a while since I went, so I don’t remember what I had.
Be the first to ReplyTasty Food, Really good
Food was very tasty and great Coffee. They are 100 years old and claim to be starting point of Route 66. Not a fancy place but reasonably priced. I will be back!
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding restaurant
Just had to visit this iconic restaurant before we start our Route 66 drive and it didn’t disappoint. Food, atmosphere and service were all as we had hoped for. Our server, Antonio, was excellent, constantly topping up coffee and checking we were okay. We both absolutely loved our breakfasts and would definitely recommend to anyone who is thinking of visiting this Chicago institution. When we were leaving the queue was right outside the door…a sign that others think the same as us.

This place is as great as everyone says. Huge portions and quality through and through. I had the corned beef hash and eggs. Awesome. My wife had the salmon omelet. Daughter ordered the chocolate chip pancakes. The service here is prompt, friendly and diligent. It' an all around cozy place. I may eat there again tomorrow.

A proper Chicago, charm-filled joint. Wonderful food and atmosphere. The food is stunning and the portions are huge. Definitely worth a visit.
Be the first to ReplyGood food and HUGE portions
I ate at Lou Mitchell's two mornings in a row and in both cases the portions were gargantuan. The quality of the breakfasts in both cases were also excellent though. The donut holes are also incredibly good. I had pancakes one morning and french toast the second morning. These cooks also cook their bacon perfectly. So good.

Fantastic breakfast served by friendly, organised waiters. Very impressed with the food quality and overall experience.

Family of 5 had an amazing breakfast…the waffles with bacon/pecans were a fav. Quick service even after a short wait in line.
Be the first to ReplyVery good, handy to Union Station
This is a great place. It has been basically unchanged for years. You get good food fast. It is also very reasonably priced. If you leave Union Station at the Jackson/Clinton corner it is only a half block west on Jackson. Beware, they close at 2:00 pm.

Food was great. Service was good. Some might think it’s pricey for breakfast but… after getting order, could have fed 2 people with one plate.

Absolutely most eat here for breakfast! The menu has many options! The service is phenomenal and the food was delicious!
Be the first to ReplyGood food. Good service.
Good service. Food was good. Fast service. Typical diner food. I had open faced tuna melt and fries. They gave me enough fries for several people. Food was fresh!

This place is amazing! I ordered the vegetarian omelet, and the eggs were the fluffiest I’ve ever had. The service was top notch. I did not get my waitresses name, but she was so friendly and made me feel like I’ve been going there my entire life.

Looking for lunch after getting off of the train, this was a good find. Although they were busy, they got us seated right away. Service was brisk, as it needed to be. The food was fine. No wifi.
Be the first to ReplyGreat old-school diner
Lou Mitchell’s is an excellent place to grab a hearty breakfast starting at 6 AM. I have no idea how they do it, but they have the fluffiest pancakes I’ve ever had! Almost reminds me of the 3 Stooges episode “Three Hams on Rye,” but without the feathers. Look it up.
Also, for a diner, they have superior coffee. I’d love to know what kind it is!
Everyone who works here clearly loves their job, because they are all so friendly and genuinely happy even when they are not serving customers.
Great food and nostalgia.
Had the Chili and the Royal burger and both were excellent. Definitely will be back for breakfast sometime. Also love the history and ambiance of the place.
Be the first to ReplyA STEP BACK IN TIME
We started our East-to-West trip along Route 66 at this landmark restaurant. A signpost outside the restaurant indicates its location near the end of eastbound 66. This charming throwback maintains its 1920's decor taking you back to the beginnings of motor travel across the US. We arrived for breakfast at about 10:30 and were lucky enough to grab street (metered) parking immediately right across the street. At that hour (mid-week) we walked right in and were given a booth right away (it's probably much harder to get a table on the weekends when we've heard there can be long lines). The waiter immediately set down a bowl of fresh donut holes (a trademark of the restaurant which are distributed to those waiting in line when there are crowds), though sadly they were out of the mini-boxes of Milk Duds that are also given out to those in line. The food is good, but prepare for gigantic portions (I ordered 2 poached eggs, but was given 5!). If you're a couple or a group and can agree on the dishes to order, you might consider ordering 1 item per 2 people, or be prepared for doggie bags. Great experience at a one-of-a-kind restaurant.

Fluffy pumpkin pancakes with a room filled with bears fans off to the game, how much more Chicagoland can you get.
Attentive service, great tastes and a welcome donut hole, you had us at hello!
