Little Mama’s Italian Charlotte Reviews from The Last Year
It's a relaxing upscale environment with amazing food.
The chicken parmasean and lasagna were delicious. I am from New York and typically critical of Italian restaurants in Charlotte. However, the marinara sauce is one of the best . This is a wonderful restaurant that can accommodate family gatherings or business meals. I would highly recommend this place !
This is the best Italian food in Charlotte.
It's a hidden little spot and super quaint. Really friendly service and you won't regret anything you order!
Always a trusted go to spot.
Love the location and love the food. I highly recommend the chicken parm & save room for tiramisu!!
A sausage is a sausage is a sausage. (Borrowed from Gertrude Stein)
The restaurant's ambience reminds me of upscale Italian restaurants you'd find in Chicago; a welcome addition to the Charlotte area. Although the bar area is a little cramped -- it's also used as a walk-through to the dining area , I liked the owner's use of wood and tile in its construction. Like Chicago Italian restaurants, you get a lot of food for the money. Three of the four of us really liked their choices. I liked my penne alla vodka entree somewhat less. While it was savory, the protein choice I added wasn't really what I would call "sausage", it was sausage bits, i.e. sausage prepared with a hand grenade. Maybe call it meat "sauce"? If the menu says sausage, please serve sausage. I will try the chicken or shrimp the next time. Hopefully, I won't get chicken or shrimp bits. El Chompo bites again!

Carry out What would I order again? Spaghetti and Meatballs - Very good, but did not have enough sauce. Sauce is thankfully savory not sweet, like some other restaurants make. Meatballs have a spice or flavor in them I have not had before and can't figure out what it is. What would I not order again? Antipasto Salad - Three measly half slices of meat and a few shavings of cheese. Too much lettuce. Other veggies were good in portion. Waste of money. Didn't like the sweet dressing on it.

I was excited to find out there's more than one Little mama's in town. Every time I go I've only gotten quality food and fast attentive service. Also the smell once you walk in will keep you captivating.
Very disappointing experience.
I (mom) hurt my back and wasn't going to be able to cook Easter dinner. We had just eaten at Little Mama's at Rea Farms/Waverly and had a fantastic experience so we thought it would be a great option for Easter given the scenario but a reservation wasn't available for the time we needed. I remembered there was another location at South Park and availability so I booked. Things started off on the wrong foot right away when we were seated at the worst table in the restaurant, adjacent to the restrooms. I almost asked to be moved to one of the other MANY more suitable tables but didn't want to be difficult. Our server was visibly let down each time we didn't accept an up charge or add on such as alcoholic drinks, appetizers, etc. which was highly irritating. I ordered the penne vodka and wanted to substitute the pasta for the pasta which the server had described as short rigatoni with the Sunday sauce but she said it wasn't a house pasta so I just agreed. What came was a major disappointment- the sauce was great but the pasta was completely stuck together and with visible flour or something stuck in between- every single noodle. Definitely not "up charge" worthy. Husbands "Sunday sauce pasta" had so much fat he put it all to the side. Daughters pasta was fine. The server, NOR manager thought to ask why there was pasta and food pushed to the rim of the bowls of two plates. Being it is Easter none of us had the energy to complain and ruin our evening.
First time visiting Little Mama's in Ballantyne.
The inside ambience and employee vibes are welcoming and engaging. We really enjoyed our time conversing with our waitress. Very knowledgeable and provided honest opinion around the menu. Food was plentiful, flavorful albeit a little on the salty side.
Way, way, overrated.
This review is for the newer location on Sandy Rock Place, Charlotte. This is the second time we've been to this location in the last two weeks. The first time was a party of six for dinner and only one of us enjoyed our meal. Everything was bland and dry. The only person who liked their meal was a 14 yr. old boy who likes everything. The worst part was that they up-charge you for any changes (substitutions) without telling you ahead of time. Moving forward, we went there again today for lunch. Same thing. Our meals were dry and tasteless. Then when they brought us our bill, again without saying a word, they up-charged us for changing our pasta from penne to rigatoni. Seriously!!! Needless to say, we will never be going back.
Great servers and very friendly staff.
Food was on point stuffed from lunch! Going to save room for dessert next time. Ok coming back for lunch tomorrow!

What a great find.
I had another place in mind for lunch when I delved more in to this place. And I'm glad I chose this place. I went straight to the bar and started off with water. Like every place I go to, I look at the menu before hand and decide what I want before entering the restaurant. And that choice was the small Caesar salad and the lunch lasagna. I was given several pieces of fresh bread along with some spicy oil. I'm thinking pepper flakes were added? The Caesar was great. I mean, it's really hard to mess up a salad. This was also a good size portion. Then out came the lasagna. This was great. Came out piping hot. The sauce definitely had flavor. A couple areas of the noodles were dry, but it didn't ruin the dish. Similar to the salad, the lunch portion was more than enough. And to top it off, i had to get some tiramisu. I did take this to go and sampled it later. This was a good tiramisu. Good size, perfect equal proportion of ingredients. And the bartender was great. She was on top of things the entire time and nice. I would definitely recommend.
Dinner at Little Mama’s
I believe this is their second restaurant in Waverly, NC. Food and service was excellent with many Italian choices. All six in our party enjoyed their food. You can order single or family style.
This place is Olive Garden on steroids.
If you are into a busy, loud bar scene, this could be for you. Me too, I like busy bars, it was OK. But if you want original Italian dishes, forget it. Go to Olive Garden. Same food, 25% of the cost. What a joke. On our night out last Friday, all they had to do was to cook the paste al dente, they couldn't even do that right. Undercooked and overpriced. Never again.
A good neighborhood place to go casually.
Very popular. The service is always fine though the food is pleasant, not outstanding, Italian. The parent restaurant is better. They do not rush you, though it is busy. The prices are right, not overpriced.

I will definitely back! The food was very good as well as the service. This place was super busy so you do need a reservation, I made a reservation 2 weeks in advance for a Saturday night. There are a handful of bar seats and there is another bar around the corner with like 5 more seats fyi
Worst experience and very unprofessional.
Waited for hostess to be seated to a restaurant that was not full. Seated at the back of the restaurant near bathroom and waited over 20 minutes and no service yet the family in back of me were seated in front booth in front of entrance and had been waited on. My table was totally ignored and forgotten about. Plenty of wait staff walking around and managers that didn't care so we walked out and ended up going across the street to Maggiano's Little Italy for better service and food. Owners of this restaurant should take a closer look at their staff and management team especially from a customer who grew up in the industry. Do better
Food was just okay and the service was poor.
Hostess was sullen and the server was really bad. I think she forgot to put our order in because we waited a very long time while other around us were served quickly. Server blamed delay on kitchen but when our starter came out with our main it was apparent what happened.

Make reservations! This place is popular and there is a reason, great food. The food and service were both excellent. Our server was awesome and made some great recommendations. If you like Italian food do not pass this place up. Great place to meet friends and enjoy a great night out.

Amazing all around! Apps are amazing, love the Burrata & meatballs Chicken parm of course a hit, could feed a family. Gotta sub marinara for vodka and get one of the handmade pastas
Overall mediocre
Long wait to be seated even w/reservation. Recommended starters bland however drinks were great! Waited a ridiculously long time for entrees and server never returned during this time to check on us. We flagged down other servers and they said Mgr. was on the way over to speak w/us...never happened. Server suddenly appears w/food...one entree was wrong and the other again was so bland and shrimp over cooked and tough. They took the wrong entree off check but honestly staff did not seem to care. Nothing? Very disappointing! Not worth the wait!
I'm stuffed
Every time I go to Charlotte I build in the time to dine at this charming restaurant. From the first time that I visited, it had the feel of somewhere I had been before. It reminds me of restaurants from days gone by when my parents would take my sisters and I out to eat. I could have turned around and seen my father there and he has been gone for 30 years. You feel ... at home. The food is delicious and the portions are generous. Try the eggplant parm! The cheese cake is made with ricotta cheese which gives it heavenly density. The atmosphere is old school. Warm, friendly, casual, yet stately. Perhaps the greatest observation which can be made is the interaction between the staff. You can tell, they are happy. This must be a great place to work. I recommend sitting at the bar. If you are lucky enough to be served by Alexis, you will have top flight service from a kind soul and delightful conversations. Cheers!
Little Mama's is Awesome
First time to Little Mama's and it is a Gem. Gaby Gonzalez is full of life and took amazing care of us. Great attention to detail as well as food and wine recommendations. Prior to my arrival and with my reservations, I had requested the Chef make a Risotto which came out creamy, al dente and on point. This dish does require a bit of time to prepare, but well worth the wait. Our appetizers and mains were all perfectly cooked and the service from the Gaby, the staff and management was superb. I highly recommend Little Mama's and will definitely be back.

It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
